What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

SW burbs of Chicago. It took them awhile to find their footing and we got a bunch of old and FL stuff. This year it's been all Decorah and within days of canning/bottling. And they've all been really good or more.

On that note, thinking Sosus.
The stuff from Decorah is fantastic.  I just enjoyed some Pompeii over the weekend.  Managed to get two bottles of Founders KBS over the weekend as well.

Two other great Iowa breweries you should keep an eye on are Barn Town in Des Moines and Franlin St. in Manchester.  Franklin St. is only 20 minutes from me and I visit them often when I go fishing.  Both have amazing NE IPAs.

I found a 2005 barleywine in my cellar today - long lost back in a deep dark corner in my basement. Drank it immediately. Well past its prime, but fun anyway. Tailwagger from New Glarus.

cigar city - storming of the floridablanca

strong dark ale with licorice root added and aged in rum barrels..... interesting, much better as it warmed up

Had the first of my 2018 KBS stash. Lots of Bourbon upfront for me this year. Much less, as in no, coffee in this years batch. I like it a lot. Followed it up with some Backwards B*ast*ard for all Founders evening. Last night was some Nightshift Santilli and SingleCut Does Anyone Remember Laughter. To start this awesome 3 day run was a bucket list item on Sunday evening: Pliny The Elder, fresh from Cali. *That* was outstanding. While my taste buds have moved on from WC IPAs, that was an amazing beer. Well worth the hype. I've been chasing that far too long.

Yesterday I picked up a bottle of Sierra Nevada - Estate Homegrown IPA, Toppling Goliath - Sosus and Mikkeller - George.

took it easy tonight after some really nice Dominican rum last might
hoyne brewing - dark matter 3.75/5
phillips brewing - longboat chocolate porter 3.75/5
ninkasi brewing - vanilla oatis 3.5/5
Alaskan brewing - amber 3.75/5

HOMES release, Same Same Different DIPA and Blurb (blueberry and basil kettle lactose sour). They are making some of the best beer in the world here.

Oliver Brewing 206 IPA from Baltimore.  First time I've heard of this brewery, but grabbed  a couple cans, and pretty solid.

though the real story is that I wandered by my beer shop tonight and totally out of the blue, see cans of Heady Topper and Crusher.  Never had it before and the shop guy said that there is actually a distributor nearby with the rights but only ever got an order 3 times before and once couldn't even get it through because the truck got hung up somewhere and passed Alchemist's deadline for getting the batch in the store or something.

Becoming a big fan of Alarmist Entrenched IPA.  Hazy, citrusy, delicious.  Great for summertime, but still has just enough bite to make it interesting.

Florida has so much great beer these days...went to Bad A** Beer Fest V at TBBC Westchase on Saturday...about 60 Florida breweries, I lost count of how many awesome beers I had. As a craft drinker, Im not sure Id rather live anywhere else, we have it all here. Hops, Sours, Stouts, and everything in between.

Right now Im enjoying a can of Escape Brewing's The Other West Coast IPA, a 7.1% ABV dank bomb with Centennial, Galaxy, and Mosaic. So good.

I think a lot of posters here feel the same way about their city/state.  I rarely drink a beer that wasn't brewed in NC.

We are all spoiled :banned:

On 4/20, I had:

  • Leafy Greens, Revision Brewing, 6.5% abv.  Super dank IPA featuring CTZ hops
  • Taste that Taste, Offshoot Beer Co., 8.5% abv.  Hazy DIPA w/Mosaic, Citra, and African Queen hops
  • Tomorrow, Today, Sante Adairius Rustic Ales, 7.4% abv.  Hazy DIPA w/Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic
  • Atomic Betty, Moonraker Brewing, 8.5% abv.  NE-style DIPA w/Galaxy and Citra Hops

Saw the Foo Fighters kill it for almost 3 hours earlier in Tampa.

Calusa Stormrage DIPA, Escape's The Other West Coast IPA, and Brew Hub Rome City IPA were the beers we went with. I also smuggled a small (500ml)  bagbox of wine in and had a vape pen locked and loaded.

What a great night.

Buncha slackers in here...

Enjoying a Lagunitas Born Again Yesterday, picked up a 12 pack a couple days ago. This beer just kills it every year. At $20/12 pack it's a no brainer.

Also grabbed a couple bottles of their Citrusinesis, it's really good this year with a nice blood Orange bite.

I do a quarterly pest control service for my beer store in exchange for beer...not a bad deal.

“Recently Brewed in Portland” by modern times might be the best beer I’ve ever had.  Double Hazy at 8%.

I’ve had 3 fractional IPAs from Lagunitas as I head to a wedding, will switch up to Sip of Sunshine between the wedding and the reception.

I have a technical question that maybe @Wingnut or @Sebowski can answer. In an ipa made with lactose, how much lactose is in the beer? Does the lactose stay as lactose or is it converted to something else in the process? My friend loves IPAs but is lactose intolerant and while she has pills, she has been hesitant about trying this style of beer.

Brewing yeast doesn't eat/convert lactose sugar so there is still lactose in lactose beers. How much lactose a beer has depends on the brewer. A good brewer making an IPA wouldn't use any lactose because #### that style, in my imo. I do love a good lactose/milk stout though.

Thank you. We will agree to disagree on the beer style but I appreciate the honesty lol.

Blowing off work for today apparently, just played 9 holes and stopped in at a place 10 minutes from my house for lunch. Unbelievable selection on draft here, just had a Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine and now having a Maine Beer Co’s Lunch.

Were you actually in Europe or was this a figurative? Either way sounds fun and the first way has me real jealous.

Is Old Nation finally getting around? I know this thread isn't what is used to be, but ON makes the juice and I hope everyone has tried it.

That sounds very fun. Favorite beer? Favorite city? Favorite bar?

I found M43 in the south suburbs of Chicago at a local dive store. Had one last night and it had a sour taste for some reason.

Picked up some Galactic Double Daisy Cutter yesterday.

Also, i was in Atlanta this week and drank a lot of Tropicalia. So good.

At Civil Society to grab cans of Schmedium, their strawberry pineapple IPA collab with Slim Pickens. There's so much fruit in this one they atrongly suggest to keep it cold at all times because it could turn pretty quickly.

Stopped in yesterday and had a flight of Weapons of Choice, DDH Fresh, DDH Digital Camo, DDH Navy Camo, Extra Pulp, You'e Not Wrong, and Mad Fat Fresh.

All IPAs/DIPAs. Check out their insane board loaded with pretty much all hops.

I was in Chicago last weekend and was happy to see Cigar City beers on tap. Hope they make it across the northern border soon.

Nitra Joe coffee stout from 3 Sheeps for me at the moment.
