What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Hawks, just found out the BrewHub ran out of Sue the day after I picked up that growler...I timed that just right!

Hoppy BDay, Wing!

Ocelot opened today. We were slammed. Crazy to think about really. Very little social media. No real publicity, but they came out on a Thursday night. Our 1st three beers are great. Everyone loved them. I wish we had more in the tanks, but logistics kept us from brewing this week. I'm a bit worried about the crowd on Saturday. A couple parties and at least one bus. It's going to be hectic.

####. It's almost 4am... Need to be back there in the morning...
Thanks! And those Ocelot beers sound delicious...might have to do another swap once the brewery gets settled/dialed in.

Hey buddy - congrats! I'm going to try to stop by in the afternoon of 4/23 for an hour. Will you be around or back in SD?
I'll be at Ocelot! Land the day before.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. They had Sculpin Grapefruit on tap at my local watering hole tonight. The shortage of this beer has been greatly exaggerated to me. Keep it coming all year long! Would be great by the pool.

Decided to see what the buzz was about... had some Habanero Sculpin and Grapefruit Sculpin today. Grapefruit Sculpin is legit. One of the best IPAs I've had. Looking forward to the six-pack I bought. Habanero Sculpin was a bit too much kick for me. Glad I had the pint, but don't feel the desire for any more.

Burr was awesome...headed home to have some grapefruit Sculpin and Treehouse beers.
Nice. Love Burr.
It was my first time seeing him, he didn't disappoint. Seeing Chappelle at the same venue this Monday night...the only good beer they serve is Jai Alai, but at least they have it. It was only at one of the 4 beer vendors there, I was about to go Yuengling when I spotted it. That was a close call.

I had my fantasy baseball draft tonight. I was looking to stay up, but still get down.

Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout imperial coffee stout aged in bourbon barrels

Epic Big Bad Baptist imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels with cocoa nibs and coffee
Wow. How are those? They sound amazing.
Both of those are really great beers, but I preferred the Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout. My friend from PA sent me the Sunday Morning Stout because we both love coffee-forward stouts with a lot of bourbon barrel character. The Sunday Morning Stout was right up my alley. The Big Bad Baptist is great as well with lots of up-front coffee character, but the barrel doesn't come through nearly as much as the Sunday Morning Stout.

I had a pretty nice little Saturday of patio drinking yesterday:

St. Bernadus ABT 12 quad

Aventinus weizenbock

Great Divide Espresso Oak-Aged Yeti imperial stout on nitro

Great Divide Barrel Aged Old Ruffian barleywine aged in whiskey barrels

River North Barrel-Aged Avarace Belgian imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels

Founders Double Trouble imperial IPA

Now that I list all that out, I see how I got so drunk last night.

Man is it good too!! Thanks so much GB! Hope that you enjoy Vallejo as much as I enjoyed the Sue....and I think you will.

So I went to an American IPA "competition" yesterday, it was a lot of fun but after the first round of 16, and even half way through it, it started to get tough to really get a feel for the beer with only 2oz. By the final two rounds it was really tough to determine what was what with only the 2oz (Hi Woz) but can't imagine doing this on 4-6oz pours. I asked the guy when they were doing the DIPA competition and he just laughed at me.

I can't believe that Senita was in there and lost to Belt and Suspenders :X This was the bracket breakdown.

Shorts Dr Zeus. IPA made only with Zeus hops. I am not familiar with those hops, but the beer is solid. Nothing remarkable about it or the hops. Lemon and herb taste.

Sounds like a good time. You've had the winner before, didn't like it?I'm having a Treehouse Present Moment APA while watching GOT

Senita lost to Belt and Suspenders, which IMO isn't as good as Senita. But I'll be damned if by the end it was tough to tell them apart with such a small amount.

Zeus is basically the same as Columbus and and Tomahawk. Just from a different farm/company.

Off to Portland tomorrow. Expecting a bit of a whirlwind week. A business trip where the business is beer. Am I ready?

Good luck! Hoping we will all be drinking Ocelot in the next year and you're distributing nationwide!
Thanks. And LOL. First, we need to lock down a distributor for the state of Virginia. Anyone feel like starting one?

When we start bottling our barrel aged stuff we want to do mail order though.

Good luck. I've been watching the brewery on FB and it looks great.
Thanks The untappd reviews are pretty good too. It is weird reading them from this perspective. Also funny to read two comments literally back to back about how one person thinks the IPA is too bitter and another thinks it isn't bitter enough. Then someone says it isn't citrusy enough while another think it is loaded with citrus. I don't take any of it too much to heart, just funny to read.

Also reaffirms my thoughts on rating beers. Ratings are so subjective. Some people say they love something then give it 3 stars. Others say it is pretty good and give it 4 stars. I guess the moral is that we are all as many stars as we want to be!

lol yeah focusing on individual reviews has to be maddening unless you know and respect the person's taste. Hopefully the averages trend toward the better. If you ever need anyone to mail order some beer from you and give feedback, I would be happy to buy some.

It's like I tell myself I don't care, and then I go on not caring, and then I see a 1 1/12 star review from someone who clearly doesn't know anything and my first thought is There goes the average! lol. Really not worried about it, just kind of surreal to see it happening with something of "mine". Everything we've been working on and been so close too now kind of belongs to the public/consumer. It has taken on a life of it's own and it is cool to be like a voyuer on that life.

No.matter how good a beer is, some people will hate it. Its just the way it is. The cream rises though, and the more reviews, the more the consensus will show.

Jai Alai again at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Chappelle is about to hit the stage....

Port Older Vis... whew, big, delicious. Somewhere in this thread I give high praise to Old Viscosity. Older is making me wonder why I waited so long. Loving this stuff.

Cycle Derailleilur. Easily the best Florida DIPA I've had yet. Tried it for the first time tonight and brought home a growler.
