So my wife was paying the bills last night, and I got the "do you know that you spent $176 dollars on beer in the last week or so?" I didn't have the heart to tell her it's pretty much all gone already too, LOL (had some buddies over to play ping pong and drink this weekend). The $20+ single bottle sours are killing me lately -- but they're just so damn good. And I just can't resist wowing and trying to convert the "beer-curious." Thank God that I don't have easy access to Side Project or Crooked Stave, I'd need to sell my car or something.

Although unintended, thank you gent's for making me feel better about my beer budget...he says cracking a booneshine long winter Imperial Stout...

I like to always comment how expensive of a hobby golf is. Then when my wife thinks anything I do as a hobby is too expensive, I can say at least I don't play golf. Hell, You can spend $176 on carts, green fees, balls and tips in a single outing.

I'm going to the Melvin Brewing 2x4 DIPA release today at Falling Rock. For those that aren't familiar with Melvin out of Jackson Hole, WY, they won Small Brewpub of the Year at GABF last year and have won a number of different awards at various beer competitions, including gold medals for their 2x4 DIPA at GABF, the World Beer Cup, and the Alpha King Challenge. It's always a nice treat to find their stuff on tap on rare occasions outside of the brewery. It should be a cool event.

I freaking love Side Project beers. Really wish they made more. Luckily I have a hookup who is from STL and goes down there a few times a year, but that's not enough.

I think that was my first SP beer, and it was awesome. Currently on my second Fat Heads Head Hunter IPA. One of my favorite non-Florida IPAS in distro here.

Griffin Claw Project Clementine DIPA. Sweet and citrusy, wish it had more hop punch. Real good though. GC is really starting to hit their stride.

Just scored some BOMB! when it popped up on one of the local bottle shop's FB pages as I was killing time in between my daughters' volleyball games. Probably my ATF non-BA stout.

Grabbed one of these from The Open Bottle. They get it every few months I think. Looking forward to opening it.

I'd be surprised if you are disappointed. The coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and chiles are all there, but nothing "takes over." Very well balanced IMO. And the crazy thing is that I actually think that a bunch of Prairie saisons and sours are even better. Not to mention Okie, which might be my ATF brown ale. Just a phenomenal brewery IMO.

I got to hang out with Chase Healey, the owner of Prairie, over Vail Big Beers weekend a couple weeks ago. We chatted for about a half hour while waiting in line for Troy Casey's seminar on barrel blending. He was super cool, really funny, and just a remarkably down-to-Earth and self-deprecating guy. Definitely not the type of brewery owner that takes himself too seriously. His brother Colin does all of the artwork for the Prairie labels, which I thought was cool. I've always been a big fan of Prairie, but I'm an even bigger fan after getting to know the man behind the operation. Bourbon barrel-aged Bomb! just hit shelves in Denver, so I need to see if I can find a bottle tomorrow.ETA - By the way, I agree about Okie. I love that beer.

That's awesome to hear. I've seen YouTube interviews and stuff with him, and he seemed like a good dude -- awesome to hear that it's true. Really cool that you got to meet him.

SoB Old Order II - much different than I. Tons of raspberries and red wine, really tart but not sour. Has a bitter finish. I like this better than I, which was really sweet in comparison.

Found out yesterday that I got selected to work Cigar City's Huna Day in March. I cant drink during the fest, but theres gonna be a private party at CCB for all the Huna Day volunteers thatll be killer (with leftover kegs form the fest), and only about 100 people. Plus a bottle of Huna. Sweeeet.

I thought I did too. I thought he was a regular unassuming dude. Maybe it was another one of the owners that I met then.

My brother went to the brewpub about a week ago and he said growlers were $22. I had to ask again to make sure I understood that correctly but he said that was correct. Thought that was interesting considering a 4-pack of cans is $9.99.

Big fan of this beer and today is the release of BA Personal Chain Letter. $18 per. Pass.

Thinking One Trick Pony today. 18th Street's menu is gose and sour heavy and I haven't delved into those much yet.

I have and I still think ZD is better however there are so many other beers I would rather have than ZD. I only bought it yesterday since it was in front of me and it's been awhile.

I do really like APA although I think Hop Skip is better.

It's one of those beers that I always buy every year. Nugget Nectar, Nosferatu, Celebration, Breakfast Stout, a few others. Maybe not as trendy as what the tickers are drinking, but ### #### they're just great beers.

Canton BrewWorks. Very new brewery by my house. Beers have just been ok. Stopped by for s BBA Wee Heavy. A little too sweet. Kind of one note. That one note is a solid one though.

Yes and no. Founders and Bells certainly have a real huge grip on craft beer in Michigan. However, I leave near Detroit which puts Founders 2 hours away. There is plenty of room for good beer in the Detroit-Ann Arbor area. There's some good breweries, but nothing great. It's only a matter of time before someone opens a great Detroit brewery. There's plenty of breweries in Detroit, but they are all weak af.

Heading to a buddys house who has a growler of something from The Brew Gentleman Beer Company in Pittsburgh...he says this brewery is legit and their beers phenomenal. We shall see.

Oh absolutely agree -- actually IMO any place making really good beer can carve out a niche regardless of competition. I was mainly referring specifically to making a BA wee heavy considering that the best in the world of that particular style is probably so close.
