Growler #1-Pump Chump Angry Chair delicious

Growler #2-JDub-Lychee IPA, yum yum

Growler #3-Oskar-American Blues, 3rd time I fill a growler with this, delicious in the heat or beach

Growler #4-10 Barrel Joe, American IPA, it's delicious, likely to go refill it quick. 

I hope everyone is getting this type of experience where they live. If not, I ask why not start a new business? You can't lose.

The big reason beer stores don't do this everywhere is the fact that tons of places have pretty restrictive alcohol laws. It's stupid. For example, I can't buy beer at all here on Sunday, and growlers can only be filled on the premises where the beer is brewed.

 
Settled in on American Joe IPA, delicious. 

Not sure about anyone else but I have to say that being in my early 40s now, the beer has never been better, the liquor never smoother, the buds never stronger/plentiful and they wonder why I refuse to stop...

Seriously, how can you walk away from what you know is perhaps the best you'll see in your life? 

Cheers to everyone, mother in law visit going very smooth, got 2 redbox flicks for the wimmens to watch while I stream sports and sip my growlers, life is good.

I have started getting more and more growlers local places have some crazy weekly specials. This has led me to start thinking about getting one of those drinktanks...has a lot of benefits but not sure I want to drop ~100 on one. What to do....what to do...

What is a drinktank? I guess I could google it but that wouldn't be good for conversation, would it now?

A stainless insulated growler that can use carbonation discs in the lid and then put on a tap top so it's like a growler version of a Kegerator. Plus it would great to take to a party, yesterday I took a growler to a neighborhood BBQ and it was a pain in the ###. Had to have a cooler large enough plus ice packs. This would have been perfect. But still not sure I want to drop 100 bucks on one.....decisions decisions.....

Also cracked the Griffin Claw BBA Coffee Flying Buffalo from @Ilov80s -- very good! More chocolate and bourbon than coffee, which is perfect for me really.

 
Wife's cousin was in town from Madison over the weekend and brought me a surprise 12-pack of Moon Man (we had talked about it when he was here over the 4th of July).  My in-laws drank 3 of them but I'll take it.

Bourbon barrels -- one year, per their FB page. They have (had) regular BBA plus vanilla, cherry, and wild cherry variants. And Moloko isn't even that great a beer IMO -- Hunter is far superior at half the cost even for the variants. Given FFF's recurring infection issues and the prices, I've passed on BA everything for years with them. If BBA vanilla bean DL ever pops up at the kiosk, I might be tempted even at $50 as that beer is supposed to be in the "best stout evah" discussion. But it won't.

Remarkably, that's not hugely out of whack, either. TG just announced their Mornin' Delight release last week -- $10 ticket gets you the chance to drop $100 on 2 22 oz. bottles, and that one isn't even barrel aged. Plus one pour, a commemorative glass, and a box LOL.

I mean really, what in the mother eff... I'll happily just grab my BCBS and KBS and call it a year on the BBA beer given some of these prices.

Agree 100%. Mornin' Delight tickets sold out immediately and there was enough traffic to crash EventBrite. On BeerAdvocate people were #####ing and going nuts about "not enough tickets," and "didn't get tickets" etc. Totally out of control IMO. Absolutely insane. IMO it's mainly driven by the "gray market" and people reselling / trading bottles to the folks that have more money than sense and just. need. to. check. that. box. Either way, it's going to get worse I'd say. The formula is clear -- slap something in a barrel, call it exclusive / limited, let the hype build, sell tickets, charge crazy prices.

This really isn't new though.  You know as well as I do that things just continue to progress as the industry continues to expand and more people are drinking craft beer.  Yes, this is the "can you believe that happened?" moment of the day, but there was the Hunahpu's disaster a few years ago, the guy buying an entire grocery store out of Hopslam to resell at another store, etc.  So long as people are willing to pay the prices - and they are, as evidenced by the immediate sellout of the Morning Delight release - this is just going to continue.

I swear there is a curve of craft beer fandom.  Stage 1 is the newbie, person enjoys some of the beer, maybe not a majority of the styles, "doesn't like dark beer", etc., but willing to try something new.  My sister is in this stage, for example...she'll drink a good beer and enjoy it but odds are she won't remember the name tomorrow.  Stage 2 is the regular, guy who is pretty familiar with the beers on the shelf at your local, can find him in your local beer bar on occasion....is familiar with the big craft breweries, different styles, spending more money on beer.  Stage 3 is full blown beer guy, truck-chasing, spending obscene amounts of money, posting ****-swinging pics on the internet, buying into every hype release.  And Stage 4 is the vet, smarter about purchases, realizes he doesn't need to spend $15 on a bomber of a stout because he can buy a 4-pack of something just as good, if not better, for $12-13.  Probably splurges every so often but isn't taking every weekend to drive to a different state for <insert this weekend's big release>.

I'd think most of us who are regulars in this thread are Stage 4.  I know I am.  But Stage 3 is what drives prices up, drives hype....and with more people getting into beer every day, there are just purely more Stage 3 people.  Breweries know that these people drive hype, and the product limit is intentional.  TG must make a killing off of this release, and more power to em.  But it's not for me....hasn't been for me in awhile.

I would put Central Waters barrel aged beers in the mix too. Delicious and relatively affordable.

When we hit Lambeau for the Packers/Vikings game, I buy a round of this when it is my turn.

I prefer Moon Man to Spotted Cow

 
Agreed on Moon Man > Spotted Cow -- and not even close IMO really. Their fruit beers are several notches up from either also: Raspberry Tart, Wisconsin Belgian Red, Serendipity. Spotted Cow and Totally Naked are both styles that really appeal more to the BMC / AAL fan IMO.
