What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

First time with the Dead Guy Ale and it is solid. One I'd go back to for sure.

Paid $5 for a 750 of it the other night at Trader Joe's.

Paid $5 for a 750 of Ommegang Abbey (TJs again)

What would these normally cost? just trying to gauge how cheap TJs is for beer.
Since when is Dead guy in 750s?I have seen bombers and growlers, but not 750s.
oooops, "rookie mistake"i confirmed 650 ml on the dead guy, not 750.
22oz bombers are the Rogue standard.
 $3 Rogue, $7 Ommegang here, but I'm in the home of Rogue - pretty much every grocery store here carries Dead Guy and Shakespeare Stout.

Going to have the Tyranena Bitter Woman from Hell tonight, courtesy of Tip Top :banned:
Man, you are blasting through the beers I sent and I haven't even chilled one of yours yet. :bag:
No problem there. I've always had a tough time avoiding the new beers when I get them. The only BIF I beer from Skylord that I have left (other than the ones I'm cellaring... err, closeting) is the Lion Stout, and right now it's too freaking hot for a stout.Think I'll probably be having a rye night tomorrow - the Founders Red's and Black you sent, plus a Hop Rod for "comparisan" sake (I know not a true rye in the same fashion, but any excuse for a good beer :banned: ).

FYI, the Black Rye is very chocolatey. Neither really are much the same as Hop Rod either.

I must say this is another, um, very different beer. Goes down much like a double IPA (little bit extra on the bitter side) with the initial piny hop smell and taste, but then... nothing. None of the hop "aftertaste" that I've come to almost expect; just a very very slight bitter remnant. Almost like I followed it with a drink of water. Very bizarre.Overall though, a good one for those who like their hops.

Wow, not much going on in here tonight. And no Skylord appearance.
Just got back from a work party. Had kegs of SNPA, XX, Gordon Biersch Marzen, Anchor Steam and one I didn't make it to. Just popped the cap on the Masala Mama growler. Hope its still good.

Should be. It's not that old. You still have to figure out what you need me to send to replace the busted growler.

Based on the review, guess it was ok.

You have this uncanny ability to know exactly when I hit the submit button, I swear.

Started with a Yuengling

Then >>> bomber of Racer 5

Then >>> Bell's Cherry Stout

Its good to be back. I finally got rid of the tenacious cold I had. Back in da saddle, for GOOD this time!!!!!!!!!!1

beeradvocate site down?

or is it just my work computer............ AGAIN
Looks to be down.
:hot: :hot: :hot: i just need to print a couple screens of information.... what the ####?
What are you looking for? Try ratebeer if its general info
just some lists of beer.checked Ratebeer earlier.. the lists didn't look complete to me.
Really? What sort of lists?
beers.thought i'd just get the rated lists from BA. make it easy for me in case i stumble across anything interesting on my trip next week.... i don't have to wonder what style a certain beer is or if it's good or not.. i can just refer to the list and make a decision.

Ratebeers lists should be more complete than BA. What specifically are you looking for? Ratebeers lists don't have any waiting associated with them. As long as there are 5 reviews, that beer is listed. BA weights the ratings towards beers that have been reviewed more.

i'd like to know what style of beer, a say, Unibroue Trois Pistoles is when i see it on the shelves.

it's not intuitive from the name... like a New Glarus Hearty Hop is going to be.

#### like that. don't want to pass up a style i might really like (Belgian Pale Ale) because the beer is named "Grand Piano" or something.

and i don't want to foolishly pass up a beer i might like that's rare and highly rated.. if i have a list i'll feel better prepared.

eta: from a quick glance at RB, they don't list style. just the name.. unless the style (Lake Louie Milk Stout) is part of the name.

:goodposting: I have the same problem (probably not to the same degre since the selection in my area is very limited). It'd be nice if the labels actually said what style the beer was.

Rogue bombers run $4.99-$5.99 here in Orlando, with one exception - I think it was an Imperial Stout, which was $8.99.Had the Smoke Ale the other day - their version of a Rauchbier. Wow - that was an interesting beer - they say that it has a delicate smoke flavor - I find it to be anything but. Rogue uses very bold flavors, I've found, and I dig it.

i've been passing up the Unibroue line.. solely because i have no clue what they are when i see them.unless it clearly says "Porter" or something on the box.... or if i've had it before... i have no idea. and usually i pass it up for something that's more clear.

the place i'm going to apparently has a wide selection of beers that i'm interested in. don't want to fumble the ball and pass over a super-rare beer that's at my fingertips.

I think you're making a mistake. The Maudite, Trois Pistoles, and Fin du Monde are all pretty damned good and are a relative bargain for Belgian-styled beers at about $7-8 a 4-pack.

Really? Wow - either I am not remembering correctly or I might need to go get some bombers today.I am going straight Rogue next time I go to Knightly, as I know they have at least 7-8 varieties, and probably all of them, if I know this guy. Any other favorites, as I have only had the Chocolate Stout, Smoke Ale, and Dead Guy Ale?

I  the Hazelnut Brown Nectar. On the Rogue IS, I only seem to be able to find the ceramic bottles. Maybe the regular glass bottled ones are cheaper.

i've heard great things about the Shakespeare Stout
that one's good also.do you not get Rogue up there Furley?
it's sporadic.one place carries the Dead Guy bombers and 6-packs.. once in a while they'll have Chocolate bombers... and the odd Shakespeare bomber.

i've seen a Red from them too but only in 6-packs.

I didn't get that deep into the Rogues last time I was there, but I know this guy here has an entire shelf dedicated to Rogue bombers - probably 5-6 bottles deep and the shelf is about 15 feet long. I'll bet he has most, if not all, the varieties. I am really eager to try that Mocha Porter and the Brown nectar you mention. I actually forgot I had the Chipotle at the beer bar I went to in Sarasota - very solid, flavor was a LOT more understated than I noticed in the Choco. Stout or Smoke Ale.

I'll have to pick up the Chipotle this weekend and try it.

I really dig the Mocha Porter and Hazelnut Nectar. Dead Guy is always solid as well. Around these parts, the only other Rogues we get are Shakespeare Stout, which is great, Half-E-Weizen (good, but not great), Chipotle, and Morimoto Soba (never had).

Sipped on a 1995 Thomas Hardy's Ale last night. Mucho Tasty! I still have a couple 93's in the cellar, which will be there for quite some time...
