Well, much to my dismay, a thread search for "michelob honey lager" didn't yield any results except for when I posted it, so I felt a certain obligation to bump it. Founders Imperial Stout:
If you like stouts, you'll like this. It was black. My buddy asked, "So is that synthetic motor oil?" I said Yes. Duh, it WAS brewed by humans. It smelled Stout-y. It tasted Stout-y. Reminded me of the coffee-choco-malty taste of the Brooklyn that Otis sent. Although his was a Choco Stout, so less of that flavor. But the burnt bean flavor was all over you. The weight of the beer was substantial too. I spilled a drop on my desk, and it beaded up into a perfect little drop. No whimpy oozing everywhere for that spillage. Nope. A nice thick, rounded, perfect bead of Stout. I knew I was done for at that point. I called Uncle right as I was finishing it off. And at 10% ABV, that's probably a good thing.
Fellas, I found something out tonight. Don't get yer undies in a bunch (Furley). But I think I am far far less of a stout person now than I used to be. This beer was very good. I can tell that much. But the whole time I was "with" it, I was thinking about Beatification. I will note that I never once screamed out Beatification's name while I was "with" the Imperial Stout. That woulda been awkward.
But the thought was there. And I am not sure I can live with that deception much longer. I am resisting the temptation to guzzle all my Beatifications at one time. Every single beer I have now brings me closer to that result though. One big sloppy Beatification Fest.
I am turning away from the Dark Side. If I were a Star Wars Nut, that would be a good thing. But I love beer. So this is a de facto limitation on my beer selection. I may go on a Stout Binge later this year, to re-acquire the taste for the Dark Side. Until then, the weather is far too hot for this type of beer. I hope anyone I trade with likes Stouts, because I have another 12 down there....
