What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Goose Island IIPA

Holy balls, Batman. This stuff really IS in the same tier as Dreadnaught. Thanks a bunch, George. WOW.
No? I just had a Dread, and now Im having the GI. Theyre not too far apart at all. Very similar, and in the same neighborhood.
I know you guys have been saying this all along. I'll have to try another bottle one of these days. But as far as I'm concerned, no IPA or DIPA comes close to Dreadnaught. I've got a Ruination chilling in the fridge for this weekend to rate, so that should be an interesting test.
Do a tasting of both, one after the other. Im really surprised how close it is...To me, its not *quite* as good, but its alot closer than I though any IIPA could be (as far as all the IIPAs Ive tried so far)2nd Edit: With the GI IIPA, I dont get the "mustiness" flavor I get in the Dread...for some reason when I drink the Dread I get some musty wet-blanket tones in there somewhere, but for some reason, its not a bad thing.
The thing about the Goose Island is that it is so superbly balanced.

I am heading to my local est. for a beer fridge refill... I need some steller ideas. I am a snob like ya'll, but usually stick to what I know, so would love to try some new ones. Please suggest, and I will try those if available and if never had. You will be my favorite beer sn00b if u hook me up with a winner like the Dogfish IPA's.
What do they have??? What have YOU had??? More info needed
I can't name all in each category, but more available in the not tried then tried...I have tried a ton of Stouts and Hefe's... those are my favs. Stouts are out due to the season, but a great hefe/wheat is ALWAYS appreciated. Also interested in any other favs. Why not mention it? I will make a wish list and go from there. There must be 1000 different favs here, in which I can find a few to taste. Looking forward to any tips. :banned:

You should have tons of good options being in MI. Can't go wrong with Founders or Bell's. For Founders, I really like the Centennial IPA and Red's Rye for their year round stuff. Bell's Two Hearted obviously, but maybe you will be lucky and run across one of their new beers; Hopslam (DIPA), Hell Hath No Fury (Belgian), or their Oktoberfest.
Had ALL Bell's so that is out... never had Founders (though it is only a few miles from here), so that is a great start!2 hearted is my second love (oberon #1).

Just poured my self a pint of Coho Dreams Raspberry Bitter from my keg. Haven't heard of it? Of course not, it is a Shale original homebrew recipe made with 7lbs of fresh Oregon Coho Raspberries and Halletaur hops. I know some of you will cringe at the thought of a fruit beer but it is just plain good! :)

Not sure whats by you loaclly, but my favorite Hefes are Weinehstephaner, Franziskaner, (Full Moon Hefe was sent by someone in the BOTM2...it was fantastic, and it was IN A CAN!)If you can get Bells, look for Oberon (probably out of season now but you might find some leftover stock)...I thought it was a GREAT summertime wheat beer....Not like a hefe, but an American Wheat that had some great flavors and went down like water...VERY quenching.Other than that, Im a bit buzzing after a White Russian, A bomber of Dread and a Goose Island IIPAEDIT: Forget about the Oberon, I just saw that youre a fan, too. EXCELLENT BEER!!!!

:o man do you have a lot of surprises in store. Founders makes GREAT ####ing beer. better than Bell's for sure. and Bell's is no slouch.
Name some Founders youve had that were better than their Bells counterpartsNot being an ###, Im seriously wondering. For me, Black Rye was great, Centennial IPA was great but Two Hearted I liked better...>Devil Dancer is a legend...Kentucky Stout is highly regarded, but better than Expedition??? I hear their Red Rye is great as well..

Even if you don't count their rotating seasonals, Red's Rye, Centennial IPA, Black Rye and Imperial Stout are a stellar lineup. When you start putting Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Breadfast Stout, Devil Dancer in there you see that they can compete with anyone.

2 hearted is my second love (oberon #1).
I had LOTS of that beer in Michigan in June...Found it in stores, and on Tap on Mackinac island....Great in the bottle, but sublime on tap...brought some back with me and just finished the last one a week or so ago....Maybe my favorite Bells beer after Two Hearted and Expedition, as well as Cherry Stout (HUGE fan of that one)

Two Hearted is the only one i'd say is CLEARLY better than it's Founders counterpart. i gave the KYBS a 5 at BA even though i really really love the Expedition.. the KYBS is just better.the Bell's i've had so far have been great. in fact better than most other breweries. but i'd say that Founders is yet a cut above them. just my opinion.

Those are big shoes to fill... I say no way, but if u all say so, all founders for a few weeks...BTW, Wingnut, Oberon is out for awhile, but I have 4 cases in my basement, so it is never outta season for me. As with most Bell's favs for me (best brown and Co.).

again, my opinion but i think Founders is better.

if you're close enough to Founders, see if you can get some Kentucky Breakfast Stout or Breakfast Stout or Devil Dancer or Red Rye.. or hell, any of them.

for your consumption (you're in Kalamazoo aren't you????)Founders

for an idea of what's out there... what might be good on tap.. what you might see at the store.

I must try more Founders then.

just my 2 cents. Bell's has had some home runs (Expedition) and an absolute stinker (3rd Coast, not the Old Ale).

haven't had a bad one from Founders yet (only 6 deep in the lineup).

From the Two Brothers Website -

The next 22 oz. beer, Philosopher's Stone, is now on oak. The Philosopher's Stone is an alchemy reference to the substance believed to turn metal into gold. We adopted the name because we have taken a great Belgian style beer and transmuted it into something even better. The art is at the printer now. So, later this week or early next I will let the cat all the way out of the bag and post the label.

Too bad they don't have Founders in FL. ;)
Ok, you need to quit pushing buttons, pal :hot:
Or what? Oh, and I cracked A FEW Westvleteren 12's with my brother Sunday. :)

Or Ill buy a plane ticket and clean out your cellar while your at work ;) But Ill give you a ticket to Florida and insist that you help me try to drink it all

Oh, and I cracked A FEW Westvleteren 12's with my brother Sunday. :)
You wanna hear something mildly funny? When I got the Dread and GI IIPA from George a few days ago I glanced at the shipping label and thought it was from you...I thought "What in the Sam Hell did Tip Top send me a box for?????"Then a split second later,. I thought "Holy hell. Maybe he sent a Westy 12 for some ungodly reason which I cannot fathom or substantiate. Could it be??" Then I tore into it and saw the Derad and GI IIPA. Now, I wasnt disappointed per se, but I then noticed it was from George.

GB George and his giving nature. HOWEVER, a Westy 12 would have been alot cooler.

Man, it's really hard to be disappointed with those two beers. You are a hop head after all.

Dreadnaught is definately the equivalent of "kind bud" in the world of beer. Speaking of which.....................................

No word of the legendary Oberon? Have you not had it, or is there no counterpart to speak of?I seriously find it hard to think Founders is anywhere near Bells. I have a TON of friends in GR, and all they speak of is Bells. And any northern large midwest city has Oberon on tap if not another Bells beer in the Winter. Living here, I have heard of Founders, but it is another local brewery (100's of them).Definately look forward to trying these out... dont want to call anyone out, cause I sure hope they are great beers (as I dont waste $ and have more options to drink locally).

Sadly, I agree with Furley here. I've had only a few Bell's but the Founders counterparts I've had are better. In a couple examples, I just like the Founders much better. Had the Black Rye again last night. One of my top beers. And the rest of their lineup is stellar. Can't get enough.

No Oberon yet. i see it just haven't grabbed it.try the Founders.. at the very least i doubt you'll be disappointed. it's not Hamm's or something.

To all you midwestern types...I need Founders Breakfast and Kentucky breakfast. Those were two of the beers that d1ck alaskaiscold was supposed to send to me. Are those beers actually on shelves in stores where you live? Like readilly available?

I guess some would feel the same about Alesmith and Stone

not at all.Founders Breakfast Stout will be released again on November 15where as the Kentucky Breakfast Stout will be released on April 15from my understanding the KYBS sells out more or less on the same day as it hits shelves. i haven't seen any since i bought 2 bottles of each way back in April.

Save the Date - Founders' Harvest Party 2006Posted: 08-23-2006 12:21:43 UTC

Sat, Oct 7 - Founders' Harvest Party 2006.

As always, $7 cover gets you in the door, your official Harvest Party pint glass, and your first glass of Harvest Ale. They've had some special beers from the cellar on-tap in past years; I would suspect they'll do so this year as well.

Hope to see some of y'all out there - don't forget to sign up @ http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/9682

Her: "Oh. it IS just beer"

Sinners repent!

state pride, man.everyone knows Green Bay is the REAL drunks capital. Milwaukee only heads the list because it's a population center.

GB is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more drunken than Milwaukee. we do it w/o college students, w/o the media hype, w/o the awards. we do it for the love of the drunk.
I think this also would be different if they take info in season or off season for the Pack. That they have to have a jail at the stadium says enough.
