What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

FatMax, if you cant get any Stoudt's brews there, Ive got one you need to try (see above post)

Ill gladly include a couple in our next trade if you cant get it. Definately worth a try. Pretty damed good!
I can get Stoudts down here, so he might be able to get it.I like their DIPA quite a bit actually. Has a nice sweetness to it that isn't too cloying.

Gettin by with a little help from my Friends

Decisions, decisions.....

(I had to leave TWO Dreadnaughts in the pic....just cuz.) :P

Next up, Im gonna pop the top on a Bell's Third Coast Old Ale (4th from left in pic)
What is the beer to the right of the Hopsickle?
Its a monster.Dark Horse's DOUBLE Crooked Tree IPA. 13.60% ABV

I got that and the Bells Third Coast as extras in the trade that netted me the 2 Dreadnaughts. I cant wait to try it, but not tonight. Its gonna have to be my 1st of the night. Probably tomorrow. Ive had their Crooked Tree single IPA on my want list for a while, but was blown away when I got this badboy.

Im going to Michigan for a week in June, and believe me, Im gonna bring back LOTS of MI brews...some to drink, some to trade. Any requests, let me know.

edit: Check out the latest review from the link.....
Well since you are asking...
Oooh. nice call. I totally forgot about that one. Its a rotating release but Ill check it out and hopefully I can pick some up. Heard nothing but rave reviews of that one.If I can get some, Ill pick enough up for everyone.

Im flying into Detroit and renting a car to drive to Bay City, So Ill make a pit stop in Warren and try to get some.

 Skylord. That one totally slipped my mind. I dont care WHAT it costs, Ill get some and send some out if available. In fact, Im gonna email the brewery and find out beforehand.

:headbang:

I  the fact they put it in an expensive balsamic bottle. Now thats good shtick

Next up is the Moose Drool brown ale from Big Sky brewco.

Not expecting much. This is one of those "had to try it once" beers.
picked up one of these a couple weeks back... not great. just average. not something i'd seek out again.

I  beer photos.I'm not sure about Stoudt's. I haven't heard of it before, so I haven't really looked for it. I know my local stores don't have it, but I'm not sure about Bevmo. I'll let you know.

*response to a Furley PM*

Stone's most popular beers big hopped, with the exception of Smoked Porter. Arrogant *******, Double *******, Ruination, and IPA are all on the hoppy side, though Arrogant ******* has a complex malt profile to go along with it. Funny that you like the Racer if you're not a hop fan. It has a pretty big hop profile (as most IPAs do). If you like beers like browns that are heavier on complex malts than hops, Anderson Valley Boont Amber is a nice beer.

i didn't get the big hop bite from the Racer.. or maybe the Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA broke my tastebuds? it came off as pretty mellow once it warmed up a little. the first sip or two had a bit of a bite but after that i could have drank it like a glass of water.with the recent re-kindling of my beer interests i've found that i've preferred the brown beers (Falls Nut Brown, Tyranena Rocky's Revenge, Rogue Dead Guy) more than i've enjoyed the beers with a serious hop bite (New Glarus Hearty Hop and Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA).

keep in mind that my beer palate isn't as refined as most in this thread.. while i can taste different flavors in a beer, i'm not so keen as to be able to pick up on the 4-5 different flavors masked in a complex beer, like an experienced BeerAdvocate reviewer or anything.

maybe what i need is a Beer 101 class?

And since yesterday you can add the Imperial Stout to the Stone list :D

Nope not yet. Haven't ventured out yet, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find.Looks good though.

anyone care to give ol' Furley a few pointers?
Pick up a beer you've never had before and head to BA or RB. Look over the reviews and read what the reviewers have to say. Pay attention to the specific details (citrusy, pine, caramel, raisin, etc) and then taste. See if you can identify those characteristics.Check out Beer Advocates Beer Education section. Follow the links for how to taste, how to review, etc. This is a good starting off point.

 i've been trying to pay attention to the tastes lately.. and i've only drank new beers for the last couple months.

think my taste buds are dead from having smoked. :(

Anyone want to make a trade for a Sam Adams Chocolate Bock 750ml bottle(the one with the pewter label)? I bought a few of these for trades and have one leftover and don't really care for flavored beers.

I haven't seen the Stone Imperial Stout yet either. I imagine it will take a few weeks to filter into NorCal.

And just because I'm stoked about it, I'll share. I just had a face to face meeting with a big reviewer on BA to trade some beers while he was in town. I recieved:

El Toro IPA (finally)

Sleighor Double IPA

Bridgeport IPA

Okocim Porter (#70 overall BA)

Brasserie Des Rocs Grand Cru (#14 overall BA)

Speakeasy Old Godfather Barleywine

Maybe I should invite him to this thread. Good guy and knowledgable when it comes to beer. Much more than myself, anyway.

I ordered a case from my local store, so as to trade with you. Let me know how you like it and if you still want to trade?

I only got two twelve oz. bottles, so if it is a decent IPA (and everybody says its damn good), I'll want more. I've recently found some more local beers that you can't get in the bay area for trade, so I think we're good there.

the lineup

another angle

swung by Valley Liquor tonite after work because i remembered they had Racer 5 and i was craving another... they've added/changed quite a bit since the last time i was there.. they have all the Founder's (including the Kentucky Breakfast Stout), DogfishHead (60 & 90) and a whole lot of other ish.

today i grabbed, in order:

Denmark IsGoodStout (guy who brews it is a local nuclear engineer, they bought out his stock after he opted to stop brewing temporarily)

Sierra Nevada IPA

Sprecher Doppelbock (seasonal)

Capital Brewery Autumnal Fire

New Glarus Road Slush Stout

Tyranena Stone Tepee Pale Ale

New Glarus Rocky's Revenge Bourbon Brown

New Glarus Shantytown Doppelbock (seasonal)

Founder's Centennial IPA

Corsendonk Abbey Brown Ale

Bear Republic Racer 5

gotta sample the locals for the BIF!

Currently drinking a Racer 5. Finished off the Alesmith IPA courtesy of Skylord a little while ago. I'm pretty sure these two are my favorite IPAs on earth. Great beers.

 Glad you like it.Somehow I managed to go and get myself sick, I think I have a fever. No beer for me tonight

Moving on to a Speakeasy IPA. Not much bite to this one. Barely could be called an IPA. While it isn't a bad beer, it doesn't have the hop profile that you see in most of the west coast IPAs.

Went to bevmo today. Man, I overspend there. Bought 12 bombers and a case. I have a rediculous amount of beer at my house right now.

Some new ones:

Firestone Pale Ale - thought it was decent. Good lighter beer. Nice hop flavor, a little watery finish though.

Drakes Imperial Stout - haven't tried it yet. Will update.

Drining the Third Coast Old Ale right now. This beer is a MALT BOMB. Reminds me of Lagunitas Brown Shugga. Almost no hops to speak of. Pretty tasty though.

For tonight: 1 each of

St. Bernardus Abt 12

Duvel

Corsendonk Brown Ale

Delirium Tremens

:banned:

And furley should have his 750 of Abt 12 today, so he too can know the goodness that is St. Bernardus.

GB you all supporting Bells Brewery here in the zoo. Oberon just came out and it is still a great beer that sells VERY well locally. If you get a chance try it out.
