What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (28 Viewers)

Terrapin Rye Pale Ale. First time with a rye, on the recommendation of a friend. pretty good. pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Big fan of this. They have about a million different beers but I've only tried this one and some golden cream ale that wasn't very good.Currently livin' the High Life.

Sierra Nevada Tumbler Autumn Brown AleVery nice. Smooth, not to harsh
I bought that out of curiousity at the grocery the other day. A good 4th or 5th beer to keep the night going, but nothing special as far as the style.Had my first Bell's Oktoberfest of the year tonight...delicious. That was after a Victory Hop Wallop, which I hadn't had in a couple years....way more bitter than I remember, and super hoppy. Will not be having the other one I have in the fridge.

A GB and I bottled our first batch of Dunkelweizen last night. It should be ready for our draft in a week and a half :PWe also have our Oktoberfest fermenting. Should be ready to put in the secondary fermenter early next week and ready to drink by about October 1st :banned: :banned:
This beer tasted fan freaking tastic for us first time brewers. Unfortunately the priming sugar didn't take and its flat. Any ideas as to why? Our thought is that we let it ferment a little too long and the yeast died and didn't do anything with the sugar.Luckily (unfortunately) we put 3 gallons into a C02 tank that my GB is taking up north with family. I won't get to sample that but its guaranteed to have head on it.Our Octoberfest is upcoming and then we're doing a nut brown ale. :banned:

I'm going to clean out the Newcastle Summer Ale in my fridge tonight.

Got to try two new beers for the first time last night, Young's Double Chocolate stout and Two Brothers Cain and Ebel...both highly recommended

the Cain and Ebel was a good sub for the Arrogant ******* I was anticipating (sold out).

Chimay Grand Reserve - 10% ABV....gets me where I'm going. This is an incredible beer. Well worth the price of admission.

New Holland Ichabod Pumpkin Ale. It's pretty good with pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg coming through clearly. Not blowing me away, but a good beer. Anyone ever had Doghead Fish Punkin Ale? I almost got that, but decided to try the local beer instead.
Dogfish Head would have been a better choice but nothing wrong with drinking local.
Yeah, I always walk away from New Holland beers thinking it was good, but not great. Crowded market in terms of local beers though.

Woke up at 8:50 this morning to get my tickets for Black Tuesday by The Bruery. Got the 3 bottle ticket. Tickets went on sale at 9am. My friend texted me at 9:07 that he couldn't get any because the sold out.

Had a 4 pack of the 90 Minute IPA this evening.

Fine stuff. I am very familiar with Doghead. Have you tried the tried the Punkin Ale?

I had an ice-cold Bud Light Lime in a can the other night at golf for the first time and I loved it. :pickle: I realize summer is almost over, but who else makes something like this? I've had the Lienenkugals summer shanty and it tasted like country-time lemonade (too sweet/strong) and Ive had the Sam Adams Summer brew which has a hint of lemon, but really isnt all that noticeable. Anything sorta in-between out there for a hot summer day?

Any interest in a trade???????I have 2009 and 2010 Dark lord, just picked up a 4 pack of Nemesis traded one bottle to a buddy for some Russian River he will get next month, or I can get just about anything in Wisconsin (NEw Glarus, Ale Asylum, Central Waters, etc.).

The local independent baseball team around here has a god awful selection of beers. But since I have to make a choice at some point I choose Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. It's crap beer with lemon flavor in it.Link

Since my g/f is from Puerto Rico we go there a couple of times of year. I love it but the only problem is that nobody has exposed the country as a whole to good beer. EVERYWHERE you go is crap, crap, crap. Any beer lover who has been there knows what I'm talking about. It's either Medalla Light (there is no Medalla non-light, weird), Heineken, Coors Light, Presidente and so on. The only saving grace is Sam Adams which you can find in at least some of the supermarkets.

Anyway, while on the PR island of Vieques this weekend, we stumbled into this bar which wasn't open yet. They had a great selection of beers. We asked if there were any place that sold stuff like that on the main land. Crazy as it was she directed us to a new Shell gas station which was located very close to the small airport which we landed at when going back to the main land.

So we stop there and wouldn't you know it, in a small corner of the store they had their own little oasis of good beer. I was giddy with delight. I picked up some Anchor Steam from a fbg recommendation and ACME pale ale.

I enjoyed both beers but I really liked Anchor Steam. If I can find it in MA I'll be getting it again. ACME was really good as well but I can't see buying it over my beloved Sierra Nevada when home.

So we bought a styrofoam cooler, some ice and just kept that in the back of the car for whenever we felt like stopping to imbibe. So if anyone wants the name of the secret place let me know and I'll ask my Rican.

Had an absurd weekend in Ithaca with some beerfriends, including FBGs Tip Top and Bakes. Friday night was ridiculous....Cable Car, Surly Darkness, Surly Four, Bitter Brewer, Cynicale, LeBleu, BA Stout Trooper, Founders Deca, growler of SuperFriends IPA, a ton of sours and lambics, including Bakes' 14-year old homebrew lambic all passed around. We went through 4 growlers and countless other bottles and cans, we can't even remember exactly what was poured. Plus, our host had a keg of two week old (!) Flower Power. Two guys from the Ithaca beer co. came over and brought an unlabeled, completely unmarked bottle for us....this year's Old Habit (not yet released). We shared that one as well.

Saturday morning, we stopped off at Ithaca beer where they treated us extremely well with a complimentary tasting to thank us for the night before....newest batch of Brute, batch 1 Ten, and fresh out of the tanks Outdoors ale...literally poured straight from the tank. He said he expected it to be on tap early this week sometime, but he just poured us a pitcher of it. The Ten is aging so nice...tastes like a barleywine now.

The festival on Saturday was pretty meh. Long lines and an underwhelming selection of beers for the general crowd. The VIP crowd got different beers - Rebirtha could talk about that more - but the non-VIPs didn't get much, really. There were some highlights - Ithaca, as the flagship brewery, brought 5 taps (including fresh Cold Front) and bottles of White Gold, Captain Lawrence had a delicious smoked porter, Bandwagon's Raspberry Jalapeno was great. But the lines were way too long (wait 10-15 minutes for a 2 oz taste??), there was poor service from the pourers, and breweries simply played it safe. Horseheads decided not to come at the last second; Long Trail decided not to bring their Imperial Porter. ehhhhh

Saturday night was cool...had some pints of SuperFriends before splitting a few more bottles....Saison-Brett, Old Habit (batch 1), 2008 Berserker, Freetail Old Bat Rastard. Sunday morning, we had another liquid breakfast of Goose Island Coffee BCS before filling growlers of the Flower Power keg so we could kill it.

I came home with 2 bottles of Brute, a case of Gorges, some assorted bottles of Southampton and Pretty Things, and a growler of two-week old Flower Power. Just a great time all around, and I can't say enough about the guys at Ithaca beer....outstanding. ;)

As far as the VIP Tent highlights, the guy from Pixel Lounge brought an extra fresh keg of Flower Power and a keg of Outdoor Ale both of which I tasted plenty of. Also took down several 2oz tasters of Super Friends (pouring from 12oz unlabeled bottles), a Rogue Hazelnut Brown that was tasty, Sierra Nevada's Black Barleywine, Le Bleu and Brute. Lots of good Wegmans food and no lines to speak of. Not sure it was worth the $75 (VIP cost) price tag but not having to wait in those lines was quite nice. Next year, I'll probably just head up to the beer nerd party and skip the fest.

Very disappointed in Capt'n Lawrence not bringing the Capt'n's Reserve and Horseheads not being there at all (the Pumpkin Ale is outstanding).

I liked Custom Brewcrafter's Cream Porter quite a bit too.

I stopped by the Brewery after the Fest on Saturday and Mike (the tasting room manager) was talking to me about some ridiculous beer party he went to the night before. I knew then, I made a mistake by not going.

That was definitely us....Mike is good people. One or two of the people knew him and invited him and one of their brewers to the house on Friday night. He hooked us up with the Old Habit and then again on Saturday morning at the brewery. Can't say enough about their hospitality...those guys are ####### awesome.

Not for the BTs. Drinking one, aging one, and sending the other to my brother. In general though I'd be up for trading. Russian River (Temptation just came out), Ale Smith, Ballast Point, Port, Lost Abbey.... I've never had any New Glarus. Never heard of Ale Asylum or Central Waters. Let me know what you would want. I trade with my brother in Virginia so I don't need any Founders, Southern Tier, or Bells. I'll check BA to see which ones I'd want. I'll also take recommendations.(no cheers emicon?)

I lived in PR for my last 3yrs of High School. Hope to go visit within the year. PM me the spot so I have it somewhere. When I'm down there I either stick to rum or suck it up and suck down some icy Medalla Light. When in Rome....Also like to swig from a bottle of Pontevecchio (sp?).

I know a place that has a few midwestern peeps that trade :java:

Lot of great brews from those breweries there
