What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (15 Viewers)

Stone 2013 Collaboration with Fark and Wil Wheaton.

Pretty heavy, more chocolatey than usual, but lacks the hoppyness and kick of a normal Stone. Meh.
I had Stone's R&R Coconut IPA collaboration last night. I really enjoyed it. It had big, juicy tropical hops, but I wish the coconut flavor came through a little more than it did. It seems like breweries sometimes have trouble getting the coconut flavor to come through as prominently as people expect when the beers are labeled as "coconut porters" or "coconut IPAs."
I'll take a look at the store tonite for one of those.

Like LettuceMan, I'm drinking Pacifico by the Q tonite.

Lagunitas Pils - to go along with the bacon-wrapped scallops I'll be grilling.

and I'm trying Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. I heard good things about it.
Sculpin is THE preeminent San Diego IPA, IMO. Enjoy!
Nice!

I'm looking forward to a new favorite.
If you are an IPA fan, you'll enjoy. Very clean, with the perfect citrus (apricot/peach/mango) and bitterness mix.
Sculpin was a solid IPA. I'll definitely be buying it again. I don't think it surpasses Racer 5 for me but it's up there.
After reading these last couple of posts, at my usual spot, they had the Sculpin on tap. I grabbed a growler full. Boy am I glad I did. What a good beer. Perfect example of a great west coast IPA, clean, refreshing, hoppy but not overpowering. Love it and will get it again until it runs out.

I'm drinking King Cobra.

Inspired by watching a pre-season Raiders game still playing at 'home' with a baseball infield cut into the gridiron, chock full of the 5000 PSL owners who listen to JT the Brick

PS: love the flaming AL torch on top of a park he burned

Had my first Southern Tier Pumking last night watching the Steelers game. hate that the fall stuff is coming out in August but I do love drinking it :banned:

Still recovering from the Great Taste of the Midwest and three straight days of bender drinking last weekend....

Tonight:

Ithaca Gorges

Fat Heads Lazy Dayz

Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn :excited: :excited: :excited:

My god do these guys know how to brew an IPA. This might be the 2nd best IPA on the planet at the moment....after Heady Topper, of course.

Good timing for you as that batch was probably just bottled last week.

Okay, so I am a Coors Light kind of guy.....yeah, flame away, but I have been a diabetic for 35 years and this is a beer that doesn't destroy my blood sugar.

That being said, the local liquor store by me has Pliny the Elder 6 packs that the owner keeps trying to get me to buy. He keeps hyping this beer like it is the second coming and even limits it to one 6-pack per purchase. He says it is the best beer in the world. What is the deal on this thing?

First, they don't come in 6-packs. A store could package it that way themselves if they wanted to I guess, but most places have a 1-4 bottle limit on them

Second, if you're a Coors Light guy, this beer won't do anything for you. It is very hoppy.

Pliny the Elder is one of the best beers you can find, bar none. That said, if you're a Coors Light drinker, it's way, way out of your wheelhouse. Not saying you won't enjoy it, but it's pretty far from Coors Light.

I think that you should definitely give Pliny the Elder a try. Of course, it will be different than Coors Light, but you know that already. Pliny the Elder is generally ranked as a top 3 beer in the world on websites like BeerAdvocate, and it is only available in very limited supply. You're lucky to have the opportunity to try it. I just introduced my brother (who was drinking garbage like Michelob Ultra until just recently) to Pliny earlier this week, and he said it was one of his favorite beers ever. There is no reason you shouldn't give it a try if you have the opportunity. I am diabetic myself and I can assure you that one Pliny won't kill you.

Driving north through central Wisconsin today and will be filling my growlers at Central Waters, so probably some Mudpuppy Porter later and whatever else they have in the taproom today.

Added to my list.

I have a six of Founder's Centennial IPA that I wish was Founders Devil Dancer instead. Had one of those last night and really liked it

Definitely try it if you can find it. I don't know if they distribute anywhere in NY though. Maybe NYC. I know they're in Philly but they're generally really difficult to find on the east coast.

Just read on their facebook page they have Y2K, Bourbon Barrel La Mort, Exodus and Brewhouse Coffee on tap.
leftovers from the Great Taste, i wonder

I had some nice sours at a Denver brewpub tonight:

- Oskar Blues Barrel-aged Empire Gold Mine sour ale

- Goose Island Madame Rose Flanders Oud Bruin

Both were quite delicious.

Just want to say that I'm a lucky man to live in Nor Cal. It's has to be right up there with the best place to live for beer. Russian River, Bear Relublic, Lagunitas, Sierra Neveda.

I've heard good things about Oregon but this area is not to shabby my friend.

You must have never had Ninja vs Unicorn than.
Most people haven't had anything by Pipeworks. They barely make any beer and the people that get it don't like to share it. Still, Pliny, Racer, and Sculpin is no list to dismiss. All world class IPAs. None of them Alpine or Pizza Port, or Kern, or Alpine, but all great ####### beers.

I would've bought you some last weekend if I knew you wanted it?

Such a ticker ;)

 I'm just a sucker for hype. Always have been. I love cheesesteaks, so when I see a place that claims to have a good one, I always order it. It's rarely as good as they claim, but I go ahead and order the next one at the next place anyway... IPAs are a weird animal. People seem to like different things in them. If anyone tells me they like their IPAs balanced, I completely dismiss their opinions on them for my tastes. I hear good things about Pipeworks, but I line in San Diego. No chance they are worth the trouble when I have so much at my finger tips. No.Chance. Even the Hill Farmstead stuff and Heady aren't as good as my locals which don't rquire haggling and shipping. At best they're "almost as good as Alpine and Pizza Port! Nice job!" beers. Pipeworks is still on my "wish list" though...

Have not where are they brewed?Have you has the 3 I mentioned?
Haven't had Pliny. Racer is good, Sculpin is amazing- finally just got to try it this summer and was loving it. If you get a chance to try Ninja vs Unicorn by Pipeworks out of Chicago, do it. One of few beers that rivals Sculpin.

Yuengling - my old standby session beer. Didn't feel like driving 13 miles to the good store so I went 2 miles down the road instead.

Gator>hi

Stone 17th Anny (meh)

Societe Pupil (always awesome. Bet it's better than anything from Pipeworks)

Bourbon Barrel Santa's Little Helper

Firestone Walker PNC Tequila Barrel Aged Imperial Buckwheat Stout

El Segundo Sumpin or other IPA that was awesome

Stone IPA with Citra Hops on cask (really damn good)

Cascade Noyaux

Now off to a ####ty bar for a friend's B-Day, but at least they'll have Sculpin and Racer 5 on tap.

I had some nice sours at a Denver brewpub tonight:

- Oskar Blues Barrel-aged Empire Gold Mine sour ale

- Goose Island Madame Rose Flanders Oud Bruin

Both were quite delicious.
Bar here in Philadelphia had all 17 taps with Sours on Saturday night. I think that this is everything that I had, in order of best to worst:

Bruery Sour in the Rye

Russian River Sanctification

4 Hands Cuvee Ange 2012

Brew Works Framboise (small, local)

Round Guys Wild Eyes 8 (small, local)

Free Will Napoleon Farmhouse Sour (small, local)

Bahnhof Berliner Weise Barley + Potato

Evil Twin Justin Blabaer

Last night, from best to worst:

Carton Boat Pale Ale - Wonderful citrus taste, first time I've heard of this brewery in Northern NJ.

Bullfrog Jong Bruin - Great sour. This is a brewery in Williamsport that is fairly new and I've have several good beers from them.

Bruery Berliner Weisse

Lancaster Brewing Hop Hog IPA - This better than I had remembered it.

Ballast Point Dorado - I've had this twice and want it to be better, since their IPAs are so good

And a few others not worth mentioning.

Just got back from VT with trips to Hill Farmstead , The Alchemist & Trout River Brewery. Trout River was very forgettable but was the closet to the inn my wife I were staying. The Alchemist was packed , I liked how they served the samples in a snifter. Happy the wife let me drop the $ for the case of Heady

Hill's was a hoot. In the middle of butt blast nowhere. We went later on Wednesday , the gowler line was crowded but the tasting area was empty .The owner of Hill Farmstead was super nice but a little bit out there, odd in a nice way. Went with Edward & Walden .
