What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

I was able to get 3 4-packs of the Bourbon County Brand Stout and 1 4-pack of the Bourbon County Barleywine today. I just missed the Bourbon County Coffee Stout at two different liquor store releases, but my friend was able to get a 4-pack of it that we are going to split. All in all, a pretty successful Black Friday.

How much are they selling the 4-packs and bombers for this year? Seems the prices get more ridiculous each year.

I had the option for 4-packs of regular BCS at my local last year and passed. It's a great beer but the hype has gotten overwhelming and I'm done chasing beers.

That said, I hear the coconut is very good.

Celebration and GL Christmas so far today. The Christmas Ale is leftover from a party we had last week. I really just don't like this beer. I don't know why....it's just not for me. It's not a drainpour though.

They stopped doing bombers of regular a couple years ago. I paid 23.99 for my 4-pack. I think that is actually a steal considering most bombers of BA Stouts around here all $20. and up. And this one is better than 90% of them. I'm hoping to score two more 4-packs. I'm also going to load up on the barley wine if I can.

I drive out there about 3 times a month to fill my growlers, buy bottles, and eat their awesome BBQ. Well, actually my GF usually does the driving. :)

I meant bombers of the variants. BCS 4-packs were $30 here last year, but I heard they were $22-23 in Chicago. I don't usually spend $20 on the BA stouts anyway, but I agree BCS is consistently better.

Ninkasi Sleigh'r. Delicious - best winter seasonal I've had this year.
Ninkasi is popping up all over but I've never been a big fan. Think it's pretty average at best. Good to read your review.Sitting at beach in 72 weather after a great session and my blessed wife brought me a thanksgiving leftover Maredsons Abbey Bruin.

Duvel's are on sale at the government liquor stores here for $2.95 a bottle. Any reason not to clear out my local store of them all?
nope. That's an awesome price.

Draft Magazine released a list of its Top 25 beers of 2013:

http://draftmag.com/features/the-top-25-beers-of-the-year-2013/

My favorites from the ones I've had on this list were probably Odell's Tree Shaker peach imperial IPA, Deschutes Fresh-Squeezed IPA, Crooked Stave's Hop Savant, and the Bruery's Batch 1000 Bryeian.

I would love to try the Voodoo Black Magick Pappy Van Winkle barrel-aged imperial stout and the Founders DOOM bourbon barrel-aged imperial IPA.

Doom is good but nothing I would really seek out, IMO.

I agree, I like Burton Baton better if you want a bourbon barrel DIPA.

Boulevard on the list? Wow.

Did not know about the Duvel purchase, but the Boulevard beers that I had in kc seemed rather pedestrian. They were pretty generic styles, though, so maybe they do more interesting stuff I didn't see.

Last night I drank an "American pale ale" that was 6.8 abv and had 70 ibu. If they'd entered it at GABF 10 years ago it probably would have to go as a barleywine. I blame California.

The quest that so many of these craft breweries have for flaunting how hoppy they can make all their beers is pretty far and away the worst thing about the craft beer industry imo.

I actually just picked up one of Boulevard's Bourbon Barrel Quad a couple days ago. It is one of their more limited Smokestack Series releases, and it has gotten pretty rave reviews on BeerAdvocate and RateBeer. I'm excited to try it.

I just grabbed this one as well. Not my favorite style, but will probably pull it out during a tasting or party.

still holding some Heady Topper for you.

I picked up a 4-pack of Bourbon County Stout last week but missed out on the Coffee one I wanted.

Don't really like Boulevard but the BBBQ is really good and surprisingly drinkable. Saison-Brett food is well.

You're nuts.

There is room for it all, but give me the hoppy stuff. I don't see the need for balanced pales or IPAs. If I don't want a hop bomb I'm probably craving another style all together.

If you are #####ing about too many hops in styles that don't call for it, then I am with you.

I like balanced IPAs (your hometown Alesmith is a good example), but also love the big hoppy beers. I'm not complaining about the beer, it's just a curious thing where these breweries think anything under 60 ibu or so can't even be called an IPA anymore, and beers like Alpha King, Daisy Cutter and Two Hearted are often listed as pale ales. I was talking to a brewer at New Holland last year and he said they can hardly call Mad Hatter an IPA anymore, at less than 6% and 55 ibu. It's one of their oldest flagship beers - funny thing is that it got a gold medal from back in the day that they still list for marketing, but it won in the "strong ale" category.

That's definitely a part of it. But if you're with me with that, I don't see how a 70 IBU 'Pale Ale' doesn't fit that category to a T. Whether you personally enjoy it or not, there should be balanced beers with hop overtones, and pale ales should be an example of that.

Going to an annual cask event in a little bit. I don't know the list yet. Nothing wild last year, but they had some goodies last year...Ed Fitz with vanilla and cherry, oak-barrel of a local brown brewed with coffee, etc.

Disappointing list so far this year. The bar had 10 casks last year but only 5 this year.

Woodford Reserve barrel-aged Brooklyn Black Ops

Arrogant ******* with Centennial hops

plus some other random non-cask stuff. Might head to the other bar with the casks tomorrow to see what they have.

This bar had a way way way better list. On cask this afternoon:

Community Beer Works Oh Snap! - local stout brewed w/ginger and Vietnamese cinnamon...super good

FW Velvet Merlin - this was ok

Flying Bison Aviator Red Eye - local red ale "Aviator Red" brewed with coffee from a local coffee shop...pretty good, heavy on the coffee though

Lagunitas Day Time IPA - this was awesome

Had to cut myself off cause I had to drive. Now that I'm home....

Local Option Morning Wood :banned:
