What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

What are you guys drinking for the holidays?

I've got a bottle of DFH 120 that I've been holding for awhile...planning on it tomorrow. Probably pull another special beer or two out for tomorrow night (Xmas Eve tends to be my drinking night as I have to drive on Xmas).

I picked up a pretty epic haul from one of my local liquor stores yesterday. They had a bunch of homemade beer boxed sets that were organized by themes or breweries. I picked up a Firestone Walker 2013 Reserve Series barrel-aged boxed set that included their Parabola imperial stout, Velvet Merkin oatmeal stout, 17th Anniversary Ale, Double DBA imperial special bitter, and §ucaba barleywine. I also shockingly found a 4-pack of Bourbon County Brand Stout on their shelf, which they apparently received as part of a late shipment from Goose Island. Merry Christmas to me, I say!

I've got a GI Bourbon County Stout, some various Pipeworks...but I'll probably mostly end up drinking bourbon.

Sounds like a reason to open one of my too many Black Tuesdays. Also have some Alpine growlers. GF likes sours, so I'm sure some of that stuff will get open as well.

I'm considering opening a Riserva, Sang Royal, or Hanssens Gueuze cause my sister and GF like the sours. The Gueuze might be a little over their heads.

Also maybe one of the 2 Lebleu's or the Brute, but I think I'm saving those for TBS Fest 2014. See you there?

I'm fairly new to the fancy brew world, mostly been surviving on Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Lagunitas, etc for the past several years. The local shop had a shelf full of Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout so I figured what the hell. Best $20 ever spent on 4 beers. Are all coffee stouts this good?

Is the BCBCS rare enough that I should buy all the remaining stock?

Is it in San Diego? :oldunsure:

Heady Topper Christmas

I thought the Heady Topper lived up to the hype. It was a great experience.

Also had an Evil Twin Molotov Cocktail imperial IPA and The Bruery Sour in the Rye.

I was tempted to break into some imperial stouts at the end of the night, but I'm pretty sure it would have guaranteed that I miss my 8:00 AM flight tomorrow morning.

Not all are that good, you happened to stumble upon one of the best ones.

I'm not 100% sure if that's a year 'round brew, or seasonal, but it isn't "rare" i don't think

The BCBCS is extremely rare. Every liquor store in my area sold out of it within 5 minutes the day it was released. It is the 4th highest rated beer in the world on BeerAdvocate and is released once a year. If you loved it, you might as well stock up because it is very hard to find. I'm shocked you were able to find some BCBCS at this point.

It's going to be a Merry Xmas to me. My favorite brewery halted production of my favorite beer over the summer. One of the guys that works for me is friends with some of the guys that work there and managed to get me a wax sealed bomber of it from their last run. Thank Santa for The Griffin!

Heaton> hey

Looking to get my FIL one of those beer-of-the-month club things for Christmas -- can you guys recommend a good one?

Also, for whatever difference this makes, he's really into IPAs.

TIA
I can't help you with a recommendation Otis but would say be careful, especially if he's a real beer guy. A friend of mine got one of these from his wife, and he more or less gets 12 bottles of donkey piss every other month. There's a whole new breed of crap beer out there masquerading as "craft" and I think they've tapped into the beer of the month club market.
This.Is there a local brewery around maybe you could get him on the "mug club" if they have one? Usually these members get a mug and varying perks as well as a feeling of identity with the brewery.
Yes, my friend got one of those and ended up just pouring most of them out. The whole beer of the month thing seemed to be a gimmick to move crap beer.
My gf just got me this one for my birthday: http://www.beermonthclub.com/past-selections.htm

First shipment was Saratoga Brewing and Santa Fe Brewing.

They're not amazing, but far from terrible and most of the things on their list are stuff that is not around here, so at least the novelty is good.

Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale and Porter were both good. Saratoga lager and IPA kinda meh.

Amazing how that happens. A few years ago, it was on the shelf for months. :old: :bakes:

Young's Double Choc-pop can

Anderson Valley-Winter Solstice, it's delicious

New Belgium-Accumulation

Also will be swapping out Brooklyn Choc Stout as 2012 will be popped open and 2013 will wait for 2014. Guy tipped me off on this, beer tastes insane after sitting in there an entire year. Love this winter special.

Merry Christmas fellow beer snobs.

1 more…Lambic raspberry to mix with a Belgium White to make a X-Mas variation of what is sometimes called a dirty whore. It's gonna be one festive night tonight.

Called a Dirty Hoe because it is suppose to be made with Hoegaarden, but yeah, any Belgian white works. Some places mix it with something dark like a Guinness. One is probably more correct than the other.

Taking down a belated BDay gift from a friend.

Blind Pig

Pliny the Elder

Kern River Just Outstanding

Kern Winter Ale (surprise, it's a DIPA)

All fantastic

There you go, go nab the rest.Where do you live, Chauncey?
Live in NM, back in NC for holidays, hopefully they still have the BCBCS when I get back.

Enjoying some NODA Hop Drop in the mean time and Wicked Weed is doing a first anniversary tap takeover at a local shop so I should get to try their Freak of Nature DIPA this weekend.

Nice, you in Charlotte? The wicked weed lineup Saturday is pretty solid, be sure to try the sours, Black Angel is awesome. I'm going to bowl game that afternoon but hoping to head to Salud after.
