What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Didn't somebody post a link a month back saying Hoegaarden was closing?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
that was me.. linked from the Beer Advocate site. they were/are being bought by another company and apparently the taste has changed some. have to dig to find it again.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think, but not sure, they've been owned by InBev for quite some time. They're closing the brewery in Hoegaarden. They'll continue to make the beer elsewhere in Belgium.Found a story

I'll do some more digging when I'm in Belgium about 6 weeks from now.

sorry.. can't name drop as there is potential that they will be BiF beers.

but i don't know what to ask for in return.  all i can think of is the obvious beers from Stone.  i'm IN for the Moylan's Kiltlifter.. but after that i'm waffling over the rest.

keep in mind that Skylord recently sent me Arrogant *******, Alesmith Grand Cru and  Stone RIS

May need you to look into that Special Edition in case I don't get any here.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yeah I need to find this too! Interesting thing will be that when you get the beer, you'll know its fairly fresh. Its hard to get a read on how long some of the Belgian bottles have been sitting around the store.

Special Bulletin:

"If you're attending Monday's Padres vs. Cubs game at San Diego's Petco Park, make sure to get there in time for the ceremonial first pitch!

Stone Brewing's CEO Greg Koch has been invited to make the throw, so get there to cheer him on, and...if needed...boo with everyone else if he throws a wild one...heh, heh. (Let's hope he at least makes it over the plate!)"

The only beer I sent you from Norcal was Old Rasputin, so he has a lot of options. You like Belgians so I would recommend...Brother Thelonious

Russian River

Old Pranqster

You also like browns so rustle up one of the Bear Republic browns.

Have you had any of the imperial stouts yet?

purchase. sorry it took so long to reply. hour and a half in f'n wlamart to return an xbox 360. :hot: I already hated walmart.

Just finished the Thomas Creek Amber from group 2. Now I'm eliminating all residual maltiness and some of the enamel off my teeth with a Lake Placid Frostbite pale ale. Scary how much of this brew I go through in the spring and summer. Think SNPA, but with the knobs set at a more bitter frequency and some tea-like maltiness added. Stellar. Had it on tap last week at the brewpub and my malt-maven buddy Bob could smell it three feet away. He grimaced. I ordered another. :banned:

After drinking the Capital blonde doppelbock, I got to thinking what I should drink next. And low and behold, sitting in my fridge from a past trade with Furley was the sister beer to the blonde...the dark. Capital Dark Doppelbock coming up next.

Just poured a glass of Jolly Pumpkin Maracaibo Especial. Sorry, no pics....batteries in my camera are dead.

Smells kinda fruity - dates, raisins, plums, oranges and spice

Taste is fruity and spicy, with an alcohol bite....pretty good! Sweet up front with a bit of sour towards the finish.

Out of 5.0 ?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well, Im not as versed in the Belgians as alot of you guys are, so I cant really grade the style as well...Ive probably only tried between 5 and 10 Belgians...My favorites so far being Rochefort 10 and St Bernardus 12...On taste alone Id give it a 4, maybe a bit higher. Apparently Ron at JP knows how to brew Belgians. The label says brewed with cacao nibs and spices...Im not getting much cacao, but now theres some sour cherry notes showing up...Its getting better as it warms...I can definately taste the Brett...Mouthfeel isnt really huge, but its only a 7.5% beer....

I think youll like it. Alot going on on the palate. Pretty complex. The one Im drinking is a 2006 I believe...The one I sent you had a 2005 sticker on the bottle, while this one didnt (and had a different color cap)....So yours will be adged a bit and therefore probbably a bit better. I know you like Belgians quite a bit so I fugured youd rather have the one from the cellar.

You are a good man. Your kindness will be repaid in turn.As far as Belgians go, you pretty much jumped to the front of the pack in terms of quality (Roch 10 and Bern 12). There are MANY other good ones but most aren't as good as those two. Actually, there are probably only enough to count on one hand which can run in the same pack as those two.

An hour and a half later, I finally finished it.

I liked this beer. ALOT of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Yeast is tangy, and supposedly loaded with b vitamins!! BONUS.

Caught a nice buzz from the bottle, and the last glass was s l o w but good. I dont know how it staks up against alot of other Belgians, but I was just told by a friend that the Maracaibo is available locally. I will be picking this one up again. I need to try the other ones I sent to Skylord (Rojo, Blanca, and Oro).

It's been awhile since I've smoked, but yeah, that's never a problem here.

Cleaned out my box. Not sure, I've never had the beer. I see it all the time, but never picked any up for whatever reason. Skylord said that he lived off of the stuff in college. He'll probably know.
