What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (1 Viewer)

Going to a Double IPA event tonight with 10 on tap:

Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA

Great Lakes Erie Monster DIPA

Ballast Pont Tongue Buckler 100 IBU's

Unita Dubhe Black DIPA

Hill Farmstead Abner DIPA

Flying Fish Exit 16 Wild Rice DIPA

Avery Maharaja Double IPA

Russian River Pliny The Elder

Firestone Walker Double Jack

Founders Double Trouble DIPA

I've had the last 4. Any recommendations on the first 6?

Tried an Innis&Gunn Oak Aged Beer yesterday. Aged in rum casks. Pretty damn good. Sweet like a Newcastle, but not too sweet. Really, really good. would order again.

Great lineup of beers. What did you think of the first 4?

Cigar City Bolita Double Brown - I may have a new favorite beerRussian River Consecration. Question; Are all sours have a wine taste to them; Don't like wine and the couple of sours I have tried don't work for me??
Cigar City Brewing Big Sound Scotch Ale is one of the best beers I've ever had. They are making good stuff there in Tampa.I think they offer tastings... hmmmm... I'm only about an hour away.

From what I can recall, I would rank themPlinyFoundersFirestoneMaharajaStarted with the flying fish, since I usually like their stuff. Surprisingly light color and not that heavy. Guy next to me is heavily promoting the hill farmstead, so will do that next. Definitely will make sure to do the dorado as noted above.

Abner is on my short list if beers to try. Head its awesome. Love Tongue Buckler, but it isn't really a DIPA. It's an imperial red that some from the brewery told me is essentially a young barely wine.

Made my way through all 6 I wanted.

Sebowski is right about Tongue Buckler, really not an DIPA. Probably my least favorite of the evening, but likely in large part due to the mix of others. They also had a version of it aged in bourbon barrels, but didn't try that one.

I thought that Uinta Dubhe Black IPA was really, really good and I gave it my vote. The Abner was excellent and several people liked it better than Elder.

Saved the Dorado for last, so may or may not give it a totally fair review. Not my favorite, but had the most distinctive character. Will need to try again first.

I was at an event put on by Central Waters of Amherst Wisconsin tonight. This is really a great brewery. I love their popular beers - the Mud Puppy Porter and Satin Solstice Stout as well as their IPA and APA. They are what I consider a classic midwest brewery - all about balance and quality, and not about the extremes. The highlights were the Bourbon Barrel Stout and a 2008 Bourbon Barrel Barley Wine, some great stories about the brands and brewery history and just generally a good time with some good friends tonight.

Just picked up six packs from two local brewers.

Kern River Brewing Isabella Blonde

Indian Wells Valley Mojave Red

Also six packs from old stanbys

Stone Levitation Ale

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

I'll have 7 beer drinkers here tomorrow but one won't touch any of these. She drinks Bud Light on ice.

Really. She thinks all these fancy beers are just horrible. They make her gag just by smelling them. She has two bud lights on ice EVERY night of her life, chilling by her pool, chatting on the phone after work -- for over 10 years. I'm somewhere in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Kernville is about an hour and a half away, but that's local for me.

An hour and a half or so to Bakersfield. I shoot pigs in the Tehachapis every other month, Tejon Ranch regular, but that's about as close as I get to that lovely valley. I'll beat the heat for a week on the Central Coast this summer. Cambria/Cayucos/Morro Bay. Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill cornhole in late July would work for me. If you think a trip to Fesno is in the works, well, you're dreamin'.

My brother rents a ranch and gudes people on pig hunts in the hills east of Visalia. Big time hunter, he is.

I say we meet in the middle and cornhole Tanner

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I'm sure that's not a shock. Think I'm going to pick up some Real Ale Devil's Backbone for the Mavs game tomorrow night.

Parabola. I need to track down more of this stuff.
THere are a few releases going on this month. Do you follow them on FB?If you can't get any, I can track some down for you.
I was being coy about having almost of case of it. (see this thread )I still may take you up on that though.

I'm still too cool for FB.

RR Consecrationfrom Sebowski awhile back...interesting
I think that thing is probably around 2 years old now. What did you think? I've been thinking of opening another one of those. Hope you split it with a few people. Pretty hard to take down a 750 of that guy.

It was good, not as sour as I was expecting. Mellower than it probably was earlier.I drank it alone. Took me awhile. I've been drunk since like 5:30 PM.
