What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Know what kinda sucks? If I have three or four beers before bed, I get to sleep right away (which NEVER happens when I don't drink) and I get nice, heavy sleep. The problem is, I always have to get up to piss well before the alarm is set to go off because I had three or four beers before bed.

:kicksrock:

Oh well, maybe I'll give heroin a try.

Had a beer dinner hosted by New Belgium Brewing tonight

Passed Hors d'oeuvres

Shift

Chilled Brie & Pear Soup

Super Cru

Banana Leaf Wrapped Duck Confit Tamale

Abbey

Ginger, Apricot, and Summersault Sorbet

Smoked Pork Shank with Bacon-Rhubarb Compote on a bed of Red & Green Lentils accompanied by Grilled Radicchio

La Folie

Cake of Pluots, Raisin, Cinnamon, and Clove with a Abbey Grand Cru Caramel Sauce

Abbey Grand Cru

NG Moon Man

Alpha King

NG Hop Hearty

Hop Hearty is probably the most underwhelming New Glarus beer I have had. Moon Man is good but Alpha King kicks its ###.

Need to load up on more O'so Hopdinger. That stuff is pretty damn good.

Any other O'so beers worth trying?

NG stopped making Hop Hearty a while ago last released this in April. that was probably an old bottle. usually it's pretty solid stuff.

Sam Adams Summer Ale, Captain on ice.

Washing out the live of rat poop I'm pretty sure I swallowed while cleaning out my Grandmother's house.

:puke:

Any of you old-school beer drinkers remember Haffenreffer? I haven't seen it in ages. We used to drink that in high school. IIRC, it was cheap slop but it did the job for a bunch of broke kids.

On Saturday morning, my mother-in-law called to ask me a question about her mother-in-law's TV and remote. I walked her through the steps on how to fix what was wrong. She was so thankful (well actually she's just really nice) that she offered to drive up to Santa Rosa and stop off at Russian River Brewing to pick me up a growler of Pliny the Elder.

Saturday night was a great night as my wife and I split that growler.

Sunday night, I picked up 5 22 oz. bottles of Boatswain Double IPA from Trader Joe's. These are pretty good... 8.4% at $1.99/bottle :banned:  :banned:

I can have 6-10 beers, go to bed at midnight and sleep straight through to like 8am without having to get up. Drives my wife nuts as she gets up 3 or 4 times a night. I don't know if it's a good thing or not because I feel I'm going to pay for it one day.48 years old, btw.

Everytime I see "growler" i think of when I used to drink Olde E 64s back in college :banned: Nice beers, bob

A good, but somewhat boring Brooklyn Lager tonight, warming up for a bourbon run.

Looking for suggestions for some really hoppy beers to try - had a Flat 12 (Indy brewery) Half Cycle last weekend, solid. Hoppier than my previous fav Bell's Hopslam, check it out if ya can. What else ya got in that style?

Thanks. I've had the Two Hearted, love it. I'll check out the others. Ya know if they're available nationally?Another good one is Upland's Dragonfly (Bloomington, IN). I don't post much but I lurk around here a lot, and I think I've talked to you about beer before. Aren't you a CPA as well (not to stalk), I'm in the process of taking the exams now - FAR in 2 weeks. Gonna need some good brews to relax after that.

 I assume Racer 5 is available most places if I can get it here (it's from California). I live within a few hours of the Ithaca brewery so Flower Power is everywhere here, but I'm not sure how far it reaches.Yes, I am a CPA. Are you starting work in the fall? I took (and passed) all 4 parts of the exam the summer before I started working, and it's one of the best things I've ever done. I've seen several people start working before taking the exam only to either (1) not end up taking it [bad idea] or (2) slack on the studying/lose the theoretical knowledge from college and fail the exam parts. One of our guys is a senior auditor (7-ish years of experience), much more competent auditor than I am from a practical standpoint, and he recently failed the audit portion of the exam. I can't stress enough how important it is to get it done early. FWIW, I thought FAR was the hardest exam, though I ended up with my 2nd-highest score on it. REG was my worst, but I didn't think the exam was that bad when I took it. Good luck!

If you want hops, try Moylans Hopsickle or their Moylander Double IPA. Lagunitas Maximus is pretty powerful as well. Victory makes Hop Wallop, another good DIPA. Founders makes a Centennial IPA and Double Trouble DIPA that are both outstanding. Shorts Humalupalicious is a hoplovers dream, but I don't think they ship outside if Michigan.

Also, I have really been loving Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's lately. I thought it was originally just going to be a one-time release or a seasonal, but it's still around and still fresh. I just picked up a growler on Thursday night. That one should available most everywhere.

How did you get the Shorts? I didn't think it was distributed outside of MI. What did you think?
I bought it in Wisconsin (I think, may have been Chicago). Pretty good. I had one on tap over the weekend and decided to get a 6-pack.
