What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

4 beer flight at Cigar City

Nitro red ale w/white oak and vanilla

Chocolate habanero brown ale

Black IPA

Cuban espresso brown ale

Other CCB beers sampled:

Puppy's breath porter

Sertoma Smoke Red Ale

Peach sour

Best of the bunch was the cask conditioned Red Ale w/white oak and vanilla...so smooth and creamy..

Unfortunately, Rapp didn't have flights available because the bartender didn't have any clean flight glasses and she was solo until the next shift arrived...and the chocolate peanut butter stout was waiting on a keg change...dammit...if I had 30 more minutes, I would had a 9 beer flight.

Here's the menu of what was on tap at Rapp:

How was the Chocolate Habanero Brown Ale? These pepper beers seem to be popping up everywhere. I drank some Jalapeño Ale (Birdsong I think) and it was pretty forgettable. Just looked up "chile beer" and beer advocate has 50 top chile beers, holy ####. The Cocoa Mole by New Belgium I bet is spectacular.

It wasn't bad at all. A nice chocolate/nutty flavor with a kick of heat on the back end...kind of a sharp shot of heat that didnt linger. I liked it more than I thought I would. Not something I'd order a pint of, but worth trying a sample of.

Terrapin Mosaic red rye IPA

Terrapin Hopzilla imperial IPA

Cigar City Invasion pale ale

Terrapin-Green Flash Tangerine Creamsicle IPA

Founders Old Curmudgeon ole ale

Got 2 7/4s chilling in the fridge, looking forward to trying this batch.
It really is something special. I got one at a store a week ago. Cost me $8. Found it for $5.50 at Costco. Got 4. Then I looked at the Stone website and found a local watering hole that has it on draft. It's great in a bottle, even greater on tap. See if it's in your town.
Interesting there's no distribution in Wisconsin.

How was that Creamsicle IPA? It sounds interesting, but also potentially awful.
I enjoyed it. It wasn't mindblowing by any means, but I thought it was a solid beer. It didn't really have nearly as much "orange creamsicle" flavor as one might expect from the name, but instead just kind of had a more traditional orange citrusy hop character.

Today started off as a bad beer day, but has evolved into a great one.

This morning, I had to abandon a Founders Devil Dancer triple IPA, Evil Twin Blackout imperial porter, and Rivertown Old Sour Cherry Porter in a car at the airport in Florida because I arrived too late to check my bags. The temps inside that car will probably hit 150 degrees, and my dad won't be back to get his car until Friday. Hopefully, that doesn't ruin them.

Tonight, after returning to Denver, I went to a few beer events, including Falling Rock's 17th anniversary party, where I had River North's Oud Bruin sour brown ale aged in red wine barrels for 20 months (10% ABV), Firestone Walker's PNC imperial stout aged in tequila barrels (13.7% ABV), and Allagash's Broken Elevator sour wild ale aged in bourbon and wine barrels (8.1% ABV).

I'm feeling slightly less butt hurt about leaving behind my stash this morning.

Prarie Bomb! imperial stout aged on coffee, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and chili peppers. This beer is awesome. Huge chocolate flavors mixed with coffee, creamy vanilla, and subtle pepper notes on the finish. Incredibly smooth and drinkable for 13% ABV.
I liked this one a lot. Only had it once.

Pretty excited to pick up some Tres over this weekend. Also 10-day old Anti-Hero. And Devil Dancer.

Perhaps not the fancy barrel-aged stuff, but  nonetheless. Devil Dancer wasn't ####### cheap though.

We should start a new thread "what kind of killer beer is buckfast drinking tonight?"

Picked up a 7/4/14 and a RuinTen tonight. They have a bunch of cases of the Stone 12/12/12 but I held off. Anyone had this before?

Apparently Dark Horse is having a tap takeover at a local place....32 (!) taps. No real mention of what yet, except that BA Plead the 5th will be on.

Whole Foods was out of Enjoy by when I got there, so had to settle for a growler of the new DIPA, Smells like a Safety Meeting. Haven't cracked open the growler yet, but the taster was pretty good.

Flying Dog Mint Chocolate Stout: Pretty good actually. When you open the bottle, it kind of smells like mint chocolate chip ice cream. Not a real minty flavor when you're drinking it, but can definitely taste some chocolate. I'm not a big stout fan, but this was pretty good.

I've had that one, very good stuff.

I found the list, it was posted online apparently. A couple barrel offerings, Plead the 5th 2012 and 2013, and plenty of stuff I've never had. Maybe I'll stop by on Saturday and see what's still on.

Imp stout in tequila barrels.. i'm both terrified and intrigued
That Firestone Walker PNC imperial stout was really fantastic. I'm not even really a big fan of tequila, but I have been impressed with some of the tequila barrel-aged beers I've had recently (the FW PNC imperial stout and Avery's Opuntia wild sour ale with prickly pears). Several brewers around Denver have told me that they are planning on doing some tequila barrel-aged projects in the future. It seems like tequila barrels are really catching on.

:lmao:

I'm very lucky to live in arguably the greatest beer city in the world and to work right next to Colorado's best bottle shop, Mr. B's Wine and Spirits. I follow Mr. B's on Facebook where they post all of their new beer releases, and then I duck out of the office to grab anything that interests me.

This is definitely good. $12 for a growler. Major steal.

Funny. I thought safety meeting was an inside joke when I was a stoner in the way back. Is this a universal thing now?

RuinTen awesome. We did the full Stone Vertical Epic last year. 12/12/12 was ok. Good beer for a cold night. Worth trying a bottle

Lost Abbey's Agave Maria an interesting tequila barrel aged strong ale. Definite malt bomb. The nose is incredible if you like tequila at all. Milder taste. Worth a try

Was able to snag some Flying Dog Bloodline last night. The store I went to had literally just gotten it in and hadn't even put it into their system yet. It's a Blood Orange Ale at 7%. It's not bad, not as orangey as I was hoping, but certainly drinkable. I got a hint of orange in the after taste, but nothing over powering. It's a nice summer sipping beer.

I've almost bought that Agave Maria a couple times. It definitely sounds intriguing. I'll have to pick up a bottle.

Picked up some of the 7/4/14 everyone has been talking about.

ETA: it's great, my favorite Stone that I can remember. I'm not always the biggest fan of theirs.

I went to Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia, MD this week:

http://victoriagastropub.com/

I had Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee

http://www.firestonebeer.com/beers/products/stickee-monkee

Description of Stickee Monkee: A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco. 13.4 abv. I loved it. I am a hops hater and a barleywine lover. I look for beer descriptions that have words like sweet and malty. It was right up my alley. The bar was cool too.

Now for the low brow update. I’ve been seeking out weak ### summer tasting beers that are good for taking along to play disc golf. I decided to try Coors Summer Brew. My friend tasted it and the first thing he said was… this tastes like coors light and Sunkist! And it does. Well, I start looking at the packaging for this Coors Light Summer Brew and it says it is a Citrus ‘Radler’. I’m looking at the word ‘Radler’ thinking… what the heck is a Radler? Hello Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radler

Basically Wikipedia told me that a Radler is basically German Gatorade. 2 parts beer, 1 part lemon lime soda. It is seriously known as a sports drink in Germany. So I decided to go to the grocery store and experiment with some of my own Radlers.

The first homemade Radler I tried was on a disc golf trip. I mixed 2 parts Natty Ice and 1 part Orange Soda. Wiki told me that the orange soda Radler can be referred to as an Alsterwasser in some parts of Germany. It was pretty good. Pretty much anything makes Natty Ice taste better… so take that for what it’s worth.

Next I went to the beer store and bought a mixed 6 pack. I wanted to try and get a true German type of Radler, and went with German beers or beers that taste like German Pilsners to me. I got 2 bottles of Becks, 1 bottle of Becks Sapphire, 1 bottle of Stella, 1 bottle of Pilsner Urquell, and 1 bottle of Miller Fortune. I paired this up with a bottle of Sprite, Mt. Dew, and Orange Crush.

I had the straight up German Radler of Becks and Sprite. It’s good! I would imagine for many of you it probably sounds ridiculous… but if you think of it as ‘real man’s Gatorade’ as opposed to ‘wussy man’s beer’ it’s not so bad. Definitely good to drink on hot summer days. The soda just takes that harsh German beer edge off and smoothes it out. Definitely good for hot golf outings and easy to find the ingredients for. I made a Radler with the Miller Fortune and Orange Crush and it was pretty good too. The Miller is 6.9 abv so it still stays a bit strong even with the soda added. It was a good mix and I was impressed with the Miller Fortune on its own. I tried the Pilsner Urquell with Mt. Dew. I don’t think the Mt. Dew makes for a good Radler. It wasn’t bad, but the Sprite and Orange Radlers were better.

Anyway, I don’t know if I’ll stick with the Radler or not… but it is definitely different and something new. I do like the Coors Light Summer Brew but I can’t say I would recommend it to anyone on this board. A friend of mine did just get a mixed Leinenkugel case of cans that also works well as a sports beer. I guess I am in search of the best beer to accompany a round of disc golf, and so far I’ve found some good options.

had Madame Rose from GI on tap last night. Also had part of a 2 or 3 year old bottle last week.

Based on the above, I'm thinking 1-2 years is optimum cellaring for the bottle I picked up a couple months ago

Picked up the following today

Stone RuinTen

Stone Collective Distortion

Stone QUADROTRITICALE

Founders Double Trouble

Atwater Brewery Kolsch

But they're all warm so I'm drinking a labatt blue Royale light
