Calling out to the Chicago area guys on here (Ditka and Hawks), my son has a hockey game in Lake Forest Sunday morning that I will be driving in from Wisconsin. Does anyone know of any beer stores in the Lake Forest area that I can hit up? My main goal is to get some Pipeworks, but I am open to anything that I cannot get in Wisconsin. I noticed a place called Grand Cru Wine Merchants, but they are closed on Sundays. My sons' game is 8:45 so I suspect I am not going to find anything open until after 12, I'll probably be back home by then. I did see we play at Skokie and there is a Binny's a few miles away so I have circled that game as a must go to pick up some beers. Thanks for any input.

Iv'e seen this stuff at Costco can only imagine the crap it must be. But please report.

They stack the stuff to the ceiling at my local Costco.

Wasn't a fan. They call it a malted beverage with apricot juice cardamom vanilla. I'm not a fan of sours and this reminded me a little of a sour with the sweet juice and spices. I'm sure there are some who will love it. I'm keeping two bottles and giving the other 3 away to some friends.

Yeah, definitely not a beer. It was odd, reminded me of flavored cider. It certainly was nowhere close to Mars.

Also - Hailstorm in Tinley was surprisingly good. At least their Prairie Madness with mosaic was. I want to go back to get a growler for the game tonight but have to dig into some current inventory.

Also found a place in Charlotte that has Foothills Jade IPA and Wicked Weed Freak of Nature DIPA in growlers.

On top of the NoDa and Westbrook beers I'm looking to get, this trip is gonna be very Beery.

If you like Stouts, yes. It's not very frothy but delivers solid sugar, malt and chocolate tones. May feel a little lighter than other stouts, however.

They also had Maine's Zoe and King Titus but no Lunch or Dinner...that's ok, I was ecstatic to find MO.

When I saw it I immediately looked for their Lunch (IPA) and Dinner (DIPA), both are considered pretty hard to find, Lunch is a top 20 IPA and Dinner top 10 DIPA (on BA).Just about every Maine Beer Co beer is highly rated, they've only made about 15 beers...I think I'm gonna go back and buy at least 1 each of the others...Zoe sounds like a nice hoppy amber similar (but much higher rated) to CCBs Tocobaga which I love.

They wouldn't use the CBS name, but he was pretty confident it was a test run for a new CBS to be mass released in the next year or so. I have heard this rumor so I am optimistic. That will be the release of the year if it happens. CBS was one of the best beers I have ever had by a wide margin.

Just poured Mo into a econolodge plastic cup...pale and hazy...amazing smell...here goes nothing...

This is a tasty fn beer. More carbonation than Dust or Sue, which gives it a lighter mouth feel. Citrusy hops, some maltiness but this is a hop bomb...I think there's some Simcoe in there too. Has a dry finish. I put it behind Dust and Sue, but not by much. Excellent beer.

Never had either...I'm not a big stout guy, and I really hate bourbon so I stay away from all bourbon barrel aged beers - I've tried a few and hated them all.I don't dislike stouts really, I love coffee/chocolate flavors but I cant drink more than a pint before I'm ready to move on to something else. Not huge on porters either but I've had a few I've really liked.

I noticed a place called Grand Cru Wine Merchants, but they are closed on Sundays. My sons' game is 8:45 so I suspect I am not going to find anything open until after 12, I'll probably be back home by then. I did see we play at Skokie and there is a Binny's a few miles away so I have circled that game as a must go to pick up some beers. Thanks for any input.

Not sure about local shops in Lake Forest but Binny's should have some Pipeworks, make sure you ask if they have anything behind the counter though, they keep the good stuff back there.

I agree with Hawks here. I don't make it up to Lake Forest very often so I have no clue what is available up there. Binnys should have some Pipeworks but it will sell out of the highly sought after releases very quickly. Revolution makes some good beers as does Half Acre. Urbanhack pimps Spiteful every once in awhile but I haven't had anything by them yet since I have to go out of my way a little to get anything from them. They are on my long list.

Spiteful makes some good brews as does Only Child if you can find that at all. Were you able to get any Harvest? I grabbed another 4 pack at a local place and it was 3 bucks cheaper for the pack than at Binny's. Binny's is quickly losing my business! I need to try and find some broodoo, but not sure how hard it will be to find.

Nope and the BrooDoo is out at my local place and the brewery so anything left is in distribution. Glad I grabbed a couple while I could. Talked to the owner of the local place last night and he was told it's on its way. Depends on the distributor.

Also - Hailstorm in Tinley was surprisingly good. At least their Prairie Madness with mosaic was. I want to go back to get a growler for the game tonight but have to dig into some current inventory.

Pliny vs Heady is happening tonight. Miller Lite will be used to hydrate.

Just noticed I had/rated PH back in '06, the only DIPA I have rated higher is Dreadnaught. I don't even remember it, I should revisit it one of these days.

Might have located some Coast Brewing Boy King DIPA and HopArt IPA in Columbia SC. Will stop on may way home and hopefully pick some up.

Also found a place in Charlotte that has Foothills Jade IPA and Wicked Weed Freak of Nature DIPA in growlers.

On top of the NoDa and Westbrook beers I'm looking to get, this trip is gonna be very Beery.

18th Street makes a good jade hopped beer. I'm a fan.

Even though I have plenty of beer, had to pick up some zombie dust, alpha king and what seems to be new around these parts ...Maine Brewing Another One Ipa. I have seen a few other Maine but not this one, Lunch or Dinner.

What other Maine Co beers are you seeing? And if you see 18th Street Deal With The Devil, try it...although I don't think they bottle it, it might be rotating at the brewery only.

The other day I met a guy from Grand Rapids that was big on the beer scene there. He said a few months ago Founders did an unpublicized barrel aged event that featured a few maple barrel aged beers. They wouldn't use the CBS name, but he was pretty confident it was a test run for a new CBS to be mass released in the next year or so. I have heard this rumor so I am optimistic. That will be the release of the year if it happens. CBS was one of the best beers I have ever had by a wide margin.

Maple barrel? Sounds delicious. I'm not big on bourbon barrel beers, but I could get down on some maple.

Canadian Breakfast Stout was aged in bourbon barrels that were used later used to age maple syrup so it was a bit of both. It was chocolate, coffee, bourbon and maple amazingness.Do you not like KBS or Goose Island BC beers?

Never had either...I'm not a big stout guy, and I really hate bourbon so I stay away from all bourbon barrel aged beers - I've tried a few and hated them all.I don't dislike stouts really, I love coffee/chocolate flavors but I cant drink more than a pint before I'm ready to move on to something else. Not huge on porters either but I've had a few I've really liked.

You probably wouldn't like KBS or BC if you don't like bourbon, but those are the top ends of the style IMO. They are so good, that I generally don't care for any other versions of the style. Have you had the regular Breakfast Stout?
