It is nothing new. They scooped up Widmer, Red Hook, Kona, Goose Island, and I'm sure a bunch of others that aren't on the top of my head.

Finishing up some of the last of my Nosferatu. God I love this beer. First time in years I didn't buy a case, only 2 4-packs this year.

That beer will always have a spot in my heart. Drank it when I was first starting to get in to good beers and have always loved it.

 
Sitting on my patio enjoying a home brewed Citra IPA and the 80 degree weather.

I'm not sure if its just because its my first home brewed beer or what, but I really love this beer. Im definitely gonna make this one again and ship some out in trades.

Gonna bottle up my White House Honey Ale tomorrow and brew a SMASH (single malt and single hop) Citra beer...working on a recipe now for a 4 hop IPA w/Amarillo, Cascade, Columbus, and Centennial.

Just got back from Alpine. Nelson, Keene Idea, Bad Boy.

Later a place is doing their annual blind ipa challenge. I've won 2 years in a row. Need to defend the title.

 
I'm going to Avery's Boulder IPA Fest on Saturday. It should be a pretty good beer festival, as Avery always seems to do a great job with their events. I went to Boulder IPA Fest last year and got hammered with my brother on lots of great IPAs and imperial IPAs from across the country. We were planning on going out in Boulder after the festival, but ended up passing out in our hotel room shortly thereafter. I'm going to have to try to keep it together this year, as I'm going to a Tech N9ne concert back in Denver later that night.

I'm also planning on going to Avery next weekend for the release of their Tweak imperial stout with coffee aged in bourbon barrels. This is the first time that Avery has released a barrel-aged version of Tweak, and I expect that it will be fantastic.

I love Founders. I loved Founders Artist Inspired Black IPA. I bought a case. I was excited that DP would be close to an annual version of it. I am probably going to pour the rest of my DP down the drain. It's horrible.

Send it to me. Drinking one now. Smells great, great hop profile, clean finish with some nice maltiness. What's your complaint?

Maybe I got a messed batch, but it tastes like a giant muddled mess. Like a chef on one of those cooking shows that didn't know what to do so he put everything in the dish. It's just a mess. That said, I'm not a big black IPA fan but the Artist Inspired was one of my favorite beers last year. Maybe that was a rare exception and I really just don't like black IPAs at all. Maybe the bar was set too high. Idk. I just hate it.

Same. Had it on draft but just didn't like it. Not a big fan of black IPAs in general so probably mostly a style preference but I've had many that are much better than this.

 
Nice of you guys to let us know yesterday was stout day. It gave me a great excuse to pull some old ones from the cellar - a 2011 Expedition and '12 CWBBS.

 
I had an interesting array of flavorful beers last night:

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

Odell Dr. Acula black ale aged in oak barrels

Breakside Bourbon Barrel Aztec strong ale with cocoa nibs and chiles aged in bourbon barrels

Prairie Bomb! imperial stout aged on espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans, and ancho chile peppers

Stillwater Of Love and Regret saison with heather, chamomile, lavender, and dandelion

Flight of 6 IPAs in unknown order. You need to figure out which is which. Much harder than it sounds. Last year 150 people entered and only 4 of us got it right. The year before nobody got them all right, but 3 of us only had one screw up, so we split the prize. There were 2 on their this time that I am not familiar with, so not super confident I got it. A little confident though.

Before that a buddy brought a growler of So Happens Its Tuesday (S.H.I.T) with cocoa and raisins to share. I opened a 2012 Melange 3 to contribute. After the IPA thing I ended up cracking a growler of Cellar Maker Oatmeal stout a friend brought me from SF and a bottle of 2011 Barrel Aged Old Ruffian.

Off to Seattle tonight and fully expect to ame the same mistake I always do when I'm out of town. Try to drink IPAs then be disappointed in how malty they are.

How'd the BBA Aztec compare to the bomb??

I really liked both the BBA Aztec and the Bomb!, but the Bomb! was my clear favorite. I thought the Bomb! was more complex with bolder flavors than the Aztec. I also think that I would probably prefer the base beer of the Bomb! over that of the Aztec. The BBA Aztec was really good as well, but I thought the chocolate flavors tended to dominate the beer and somewhat overwhelmed the bourbon barrel and chile character.
