That's how they tried to do it, but impossible to get all store owners/employees to keep it in the back until then.

Yards Cape of Good Hope is really good this year.
Also, I thought that Dark Penance was quite good. Complex and a nice balance of hops and roastiness.

I've had 2 of the 3 beers in the BIF.
The Shorts Huma Lupa and Bells Mars were both really good. The Mars was very interesting. Sweet but just short of the syrupy mouth feel a lot of the DIPAs get.
Need to get into the Oracle but people in this thread have me scared about it every time I think about drinking it and it is late at night.

Regarding the dates of the hoppy beers, my fiancee grabbed a 4-pack of DFH 61 minute IPA yesterday, which is a good beer. I haven't seen it around lately, so I looked at the date. It says 5/30/14. Is it going to be bad?

61 isn't really an IPA in has the grape beer blended in, so it is an adjunct beer for me. Age always affects beer, but this one shouldn't be to it's detriment. I think. Never had it.

I was able to get my hands on three bottles of the Firestone Walker XVIII Anniversary Ale, so I went ahead and popped one of them this past weekend. It was truly fantastic. I love Firestone Walker's Anniversary Ales because they are always remarkably complex with great barrel character (as might be expected from a blend of nine different beers, most barrel-aged). I got flavors of rich chocolate fudge, caramel, bourbon, brandy, toasted oak, coconut, vanilla creaminess, almond, caramelized sugar, orange peel, brown sugar, and pine. For a beer clocking in at 13% ABV, I thought it was remarkably smooth and drinkable. It was a truly sublime drinking experience.
Firestone's Anniversary Ales are obviously well-suited to be aged at 13% ABV; however, I am just not convinced that it is necessary with this beer. While you might get a slightly smoother finish and slightly less heat from the alcohol with some age, you will also lose some of the incredibly unique flavor complexity that comes from the hops of Double Jack imperial IPA and Wookey Jack black IPA as well as some bourbon and brandy barrel character. I've had the past few Firestone Anniversary Ales both fresh and with a year or so of age on them, and I've found that I generally prefer the fresher beer because it has bolder and more complex flavors -- which I truly enjoy and appreciate in the Firestone Anniversary series.
I am probably going to let another bottle age for a couple months for comparison's sake, but I wouldn't feel like you have to hold off drinking it for the sake of aging. It is a phenomenal beer that is ready to drink now.

I also drank some La Cumbre Elevated IPA over the weekend, which won the GABF gold medal for American-style IPA in 2011. It was a great West Coast-style IPA with big citrus hop character and light bready malts. I was disappointed to miss out on a pour of La Cumbre's Project Dank IPA at last week's Avery Boulder IPA Fest, but I was able to take some solace in coming back from Taos, NM with a few 4-packs of their Elevated IPA.
I also drank a bottle of Cascade's Strawberry wild ale aged in oak barrels wth strawberries over the weekend, which was pretty delightful. It reminded me a lot of Goose Island's Gillian. I've had a few other Cascade releases over the past few weeks, including Sang Royal, a sour red ale aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and Noyaux, a sour Belgian blonde aged in port barrels with raspberries and apricot nuts, which were both absolutely fantastic. I thought that the Cascade Noyaux was out of this world. Cascade's beers are really expensive, but I guess you have to pay for all of those months of barrel aging with fresh fruits. I'm looking forward to trying my bottle of Cascade Bourbonic Plague, which is a blend of strong dark porters aged in oak, wine and Bourbon barrels, then blended with a dark porter that had been brewed with vanilla beans and cinnamon, then aged an additional 14 months on dates. Pretty insane stuff that they are doing with beers these days.
