What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (5 Viewers)

so the BeerAdvocate's are telling me, for a good "chocolate malt" type beer, that Young's Double Chocolate Stout is the way to go... that Rogue's Chocolate is too "hoppy" (at least this is what Venom said)

anyone tried the Young's? anyone have it?
If you want ALOT of chocolate flavor, go with Rogue. Its insanely chocolatey, and you wont find it too hoppy for your taste. Its a really sweet chocolate (opposed to the bitter chocolate taste you get in some stouts). If you want a stout with a nice chocolate kick without being very sweet, go with Youngs. To me, the Youngs is a nice stout with some chocolate, but the Rogue is dessert in a bottle.
"dessert in a bottle" is what i'm looking for.
I may have mentioned this many pages ago, but if you want an interesting desert beer, buy some Lindemans Framboise and pour at most a quarter glass full and top off with your favorite chocolate stout. The rasberry chocolate flavor is very good.
duly noted.i've seen bottles at my local for around $9
 Lindemans Framboise is a tasty drink. I buy it for my wife sometimes to get her liquored up. :pickle: I'll have to try it with a chocolate stout.
Do you get Ommegang where you live? If so, try the Three Philosophers - it's a strong Belgian dark ale with Lindemean's Framboise blended in. 9+ % ABV and just freaking decadent. A beer you sip, say "####### A" and then enjoy for an hour or so. The brewmaster there, Randy Thiel, just loves this beer. Of course, his GF leaves a smoldering trail behind her wherever she walks so....

I think I may have to pick one up next time I head over to WI.

Skylord has professed manlove for Three Philosophers too, but I'm always leary buying a high-priced quadrupel when just down the isle is Rochefort 10. Maybe I'll give it a shot this weekend when I hit the beer store.Anyway, why the hell would they name it Three Philosophers when it is a quadrupel. I never understood that.

Harpoon Summer
How's that? Saw it at the beer store the other day. Thought about getting it, but passed. Harpoon IPA is good, not great. Figuring the same for this.
So so...I am not huge on Summers (these were left over from something else). I prefer Sam Summer to the Harpoon

Very interesting. I had just assumed Three Philosophers was a typical Belgian ale. This has me rather curious.Drinking an Old Rasputin tonight.

St. Pauli Girl - $8.99 a twelver at Rite Aid.

I would titty #### the milk out of the girl on the bottle.
Oh man! What happenned to the avatar? I know you've been out of LABS for awhile, but that thing is a best ever.

I'll bring it back. I was just throwing it in Bob Sacamano's face that hot chicks dug lettuce.

The original brew was the result of a contest in which the winner would write a poem or text that envisioned his perfect beer. Very hard to describe. Anyway, the winner has some poem about Three Philosophers and how they relate to beer.Makes no sense to me either, but it's a beer worth trying. :banned:

She can eat the lettuce, and I'll eat her. :)

Bomber of Racer 5 to start my night thanks to Wingnut in the BIF
Moving on to an Arrogant *******. Been a while since I have had one :banned:
I have one in the fridge right now. God bless California.Anyway, I just had my first Troegs Nugget Nectar. Whoever classified that as an Amber is nuts. That is an IPA if I have ever tried one. And a very, very good IPA at that. One of the smoothest I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. It hits you with the hop hammer, but still manages to go down remarkably balanced and full. The smell reminded me of DFH 90, in all the good ways. Excellent brew.

Three Philosophers is probably in my top ten.

I'm late to the party.

I'm having my first Stone RIS. Its a very good beer, but this ain't the #2 beer in the world. Not even close.

Suprisingly smooth, the 10.8% is hidden effectively. Creamy, sweet. Not too "big". Not a ton of roasted malts, and frankly not as complex and deep as some imperial stouts. Probably still too cold to be drinking, but by the time I get to the bottom it will be room temperature.

Its a very good beer. But those of you waiting patiently for your beer monger to get it, you can wait. I would rank Stormking and Speedway above it. I need to sample the Expedition again but it might be close.

You still have a bottle of Expedition left, right?

Yeah, I still have two. And two bottles of the Kalamazoo, too

Whhaaaaaaaa----hoooooooooooooooo!

Just poured THIS bad mamma-jamma -- Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA. 13.6% ABV. Listed as a DIPA, but more like a TRIPLE IPA. Its surprisingly good, and the alcohol is masked with expert precision. Rated 90 over at BA, and well deserving of that rating.

Smells alot like a 90 minute mixed with a mild Dreadnaught. Lots going on there. Taste is juicy, Mouthfeel is oily, greasy, and chewy. Freakin HUGE beer. Lots of malts to go with lots of hops. Citrusy, grassy, floral, with a nice burn as it goes down, but without a boozy taste.

BIG thumbs up to Dark Horse for doing a great job brewing this massive brew.

Some of Dark Horses's other beers get good reviews too. Any of the midwesternfolks have access to them? An Octoberfest in the 100% under style rating is something that interests me...

Well, I just landed a killer distributor at work, and within a few weeks my store will be carrying, among other things:

St Bernardus abt 12 750ml

Delirium Tremens 750ml

Delirium Nocturnum 750

North Coast Old Rasputin, Red Seal, ACME IPA, AMCE Pale Ale, and Pranqster

Lost Coast Indica IPA and Great White

Bombers of Rogue Dead Guy, Shakespeare, Chocolate Stout, Hazlenut Brown

Mendocino Red Tail and White Hawk IPA

My beer selection just took a serious JUMP.

Well, I have had nothing but premium stuff so far tonight so why switch?  Time for a Golden Shower
Was kind of worried when I clicked that golden shower pic
You never know.
So how is it in terms of hoppiness? Im not usually a pilsner fan, but DFH has been known to jump boundaries when it comes to staying within style borders,
It's got some bite, but I wouldn't call it hoppy. It has that dogfish slight alcohol taste that is so enjoyable. Don't know if I will pay another $10 for another bottle, but glad to try it for sure.

I've come to the conclusion that Racer 5 one of my favorite iPA's. Its so damn good.
 Cant wait for my seven bombers Friday. Its rediculously good. Probably my favorite IPA. That and Stone IPA. Flip a coin. Both world class.

I agree, wish it was distributed here.
Tell you what. You send me that last Masala, and Ill send you another Racer 5. Bomber for a 12ozer. How can you refuse?!?!?
Who said it was a 12ozer?
  So.....deal?
You only want 22oz?
Ill also have a Red Rocket Ale I could throw in......:scramblestoseewhatelseIhavelyingaround:

Wait....ok, I had to see if I was in the BIF thread or the regular beer thread...I get confused sometimes...

Getting ready to crack THIS, thanks to Skylord.
