What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (3 Viewers)

Just got a bottle of Vieille Provision, Saison DuPont.  Belgian farmhouse ale.  Anyone familiar with it?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Never heard of the brewery (and can't find it on Beeradvocate), but I like Saisons.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Did a little googling, as the guy at my wine shop said it was very good. From belgianexperts.com

"This [saison Dupont] is a Belgian bottle-conditioned ale, the most famous beer from the Dupont brewery. It is also available in a slightly weaker organic version. It is a pleasing pale straw-colour with a thick, whipped-cream-high-rise head. On the nose it has lots of light estery fruit notes with orange and zest, along with a smooth vanilla and spice scent. In the mouth it is full-bodied, again with light fruit note but also a hint of alcohol content on the back of the throat. It is quite bitter in a lemony, slightly hoppy way, balancing the malt body nicely. Finish is very citrusy, slightly bitter, and leaves a sparkling sensation on the tongue. The extra percentage ABV it enjoys over its organic sibling is enough to make this a wonderfully complex very palatable beer."
Sounds like something I could drink, especially now that the weather's getting better
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Dupont is an outstanding Saison! They don't get crazy like Fantome does - despite the "orange and zest", "vanilla and spice", and "lemony" comments above, there are NO spices (or fruits) used. The yeast strain they use is just incredible in the esters and flavors it contributes.

Revisiting Rogue Dead Guy Ale after a long hiatus.

This is a beer I take for granted. I see it all the time, and think, ah, I've had it so many times before, I should try something new.

Then I remember why it is still one of my favorite beers. These two bombers will NOT survive the evening.

Your avatar is great. The cashier at the beer store even noticed how happy St. Bernardus is. I bought an Abt 12 and an Ommegang Abbey to sip on this evening. I liked the Abbey a lot when I first tried it, but having it after the Apt 12 certainly exposes it as a lesser beer. Damn I like love the Abt 12.Edit: WTF was I saying. I like the Abt 12? I  it.

Its mighty fine. I hate being the last guy in the beer thread to be drinking beer. We need to get some Samoan who is a few hours behind me to make me feel better.

Thanks. How could he not be happy with an endless supply of Abt 12.If I do get the Westy thanks to Fro, I am going to do a side by side taste test to determine which one is better between Westy 12 and St. Bernardus. As I've said before, I just don't know how anything could be better than Abt 12.

That's more like it.Seriously, I would, unquestionably, drink a 750ml of Abt 12 every night if I could. Perfect beer, perfect buzz.

Abt, Apt. Oops.Anyway, I agree, it will be hard to top the Abt 12. I still have a hard on for the Westy, but I'm not as hard for it as I was before I had the Abt 12. Urbanhack better have one on draft at the Map Room, or he is persona non grata. We had a great cornhole, but its all going down the drain if he doesn't take the oppurtunity to have an Abt 12 on draft.

Seriously. Abt 12 on draft can only be heaven. I would commit an axe murder to get that down here in New Orleans. And to think, I'm drinking Rogue Dead Guy. Now I wish I had a Belgian. :kicksrock:

I'm thinking about doing that as well, but throwing a rochefort into the mix too.

Don't tell the wine guys, ok?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
See, I wouldn't go and do a thing like that. :D I have had the Snoqualmie porter, but it was a few years ago and I don't remember it as being that good. The brewery is pretty close to where the train runs, correct? I will have to swing back by there when I am up in July.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's right there. What you doing up here in July?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
A little bit of everything. A friend is having a wedding party. Its also my second home, as my brother and a ton of aunts, uncles, and cousins will be up there. We're going to see Pearl Jam at the Gorge, and later in the week we will be hitting the Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland. In between time we will visit some family.I certainly will try to revisit the Snoqualmie brewery while I am out there, as my memory is sometimes fuzzy over what beers are good. I'll definitely try to check out their IPA.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Thanks to Furley, I'm going to have an Autumnal Fire from the Capital Brewery.

A blazing rich beer, this is a doppelbock based on an Oktoberfest personality. Warm and intriguing, the perfect "Brandy Snifter" beer.

Better put the pint glass away and grab the snifter!

We got really lucky. We had already made plans to go to Seattle that week before the shows were even announced. I will be drinking pleny of West Coast beer that week, that's for sure.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You'll have to give us a full rundown on both events. We're going to be in NYC for a week in June, and I was hoping against hope that PJ would happen to be there that week, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Waiting for the Southern leg to be announced now. Loving the new album, btw.

Avery India Pale Ale  -  Damn fine beer

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Have you seen Avery in this area?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I can get Avery down here....almost all their styles. No go for you guys?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Haven't seen it.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Damn, I coulda sent you some Avery in some of our trades...The IPA isnt bad at all.I actually havent tried this one yet, for some unknown reason.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I really like the Reverend, like a lot. And Hog Heaven is a damn fine Barleywine. Anything that comes in a 12oz bottle from Avery is pretty mediocre though.

Great Adirondack Abbey Ale (silver medal, Belgian dubbel, World Beer Cup). Followed by a couple of John Brown's Pale Ale from same brewery (nice and hoppy). Sucked because they trashed their bottling line - no way to send out their brews. On the other hand, I sat next to former SU lacrosse standout Phoebe Burns (SMOKIN' hot) and BSed with her for an hour and a half about the gourmet foods store that she and her mom are opening in Lake Placid.

Alright

I'm smashed. Went ot Toronado tonight. They were out of the westy 12. I will be checking regularly though, Wahat I did have on tap:

Drakes cask conditioned IPA

Pliney the Elder IIPA

El Toro - The Duece - This is the beer. El Torro's IIPA. DAMN DROPPED THE MIKE FROM MY HAND.

Sampled a Meredsu 10

Afflighem something

St Bernardus- something - not the 12, can't remember

And some others

:loco:

I keep seeing the Double Sawtooth at the liquor store and haven't picked one up yet.  Anyone had it?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What exactly is the Double Sawtooth? A IIPA?? I checked on BA and the site but didnt see it.I just found out trhat I can get Left Hand down here. I never saw it before, but a store in Tampa carries a bunch of it.

Another successful trade just arrived from a guy over at BA.

First, a PIC of the haul.

Second, a rundown:

3 Victory Hop Wallop

3 Troegs Nugget Nectar

2 Victory Storm King Stout

1 Victory HopDevil Ale

1 Weyerbacher Raspberry Imperial Stout

1 Stegmaier Brewhouse Bock

The only beers Ive tried out of these are the Troegs and HopDevil. The rest are 1st timers.

All I had to give up for this great package was 3 Hazed & Infused, 3 Mojo IPA, 3 Old Rasputin, an Ybor Gaspars Porter and an Ybor Brown Ale.

Ive also got some Bells Expedition Stout and Stone RIS on the way....by the end of the week, Ill be 3 beers away from trying the entire top 10 Russian Imperial Stouts at BA (Dark Lord, Thirsty Dog Siberian Night, and Dragonslayer)

 My beer portfolio is progressing nicely.

Damn thats nice.I'm almost emotionally and psychologically ready to make a big trade like that. I'll be a mess with that much beer in transit...it will be like sending my child off to the first day of school.

Tonight should be a good beer drinking night for Bax and I. Going to Arborfest tonight. Can't wait to try some Surly which gets great reviews. And of course, Town Hall will be there, so I will probably have to have a few Masala Mamas. :banned:

I've had 60, 90, 120, chicory, raison, raison 23, fort, worldwide and I think thats it.  I'm up for trying anything and everything else.  Immort Ale would be the number one DFH I am looking to try if you can find it.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think I just found some.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was going to try to grab some in WI in the next day or two. They had it when I was there just over a week ago. I could probably get Golden Shower Imperial Pilsner too.
