What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Boundary Bay - little brewery up in Shick! town right next to the canadian border.  Don't do much bottling at all, so unless you're from around here you probably haven't had any.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Any chance you could find some of THIS??? (LaConner Brewing IPA (Dry Hopped/Bottleworks))This stuff is as close to pure hop juice as I may ever see....they dont strain it, and sometimes theres even whole hop cones and leafs in it!!!!!!!

From BA:

-- Egad man! This is a volatile bottle of beer! Not only did the bottles gush on me, but they require straining! There is a whole hop cone in here!

-- Hop Leafs floating freely in the liquid. Incredible, vibrant and fresh aroma, possibly the best smelling beer I have ever smelled, ever. Total hop explosion with grapefruit, pine, resin and more pine

-- This one gushed a bit on me on opening, but after getting past that and straining out the hops, this is amazing to look at. Produces an enormous billowing off-white head that clumps more than anything i've ever seen. This is easily the most prodigious hop aroma i've ever encountered

-- i've been warned about opening this beer and even after carefully popping the cap, this beer overflowed. after cleaning up my mess, i poured a 3 to 1 fluffy head through a strainer. whole hop flowers in the strainer. despite straining, there are still hop leaf particles floating in the brew. head retention and lacing are excellent

-- The contents of my bottle rushed up and out as soon as the cap was popped. Thus making my hands and shirt smell like amazing hop juice. When poured it was a deep amber color with green hop leaves and lots of other sediment in the glass with nice lacing.

-- Hops & foam erupted from the neck of the bottle upon opening. There's something about seeing whole hops dripping down the side of the bottle that just make us beer lovers weak in the knees.

-- The leaf hops in there giveit a different texture than other brews. I liked chewing on them after each sip. Probably the best IPA I have ever had. The hop profile was divine

:hey: I'd LOVE to try some of this!

Tonight should be a good beer drinking night for Bax and I.  Going to Arborfest tonight.  Can't wait to try some Surly which gets great reviews.  And of course, Town Hall will be there, so I will probably have to have a few Masala Mamas. :banned:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Highlights of the night:Surly Furious - a truly great beer

Great Waters - The Apocalypse

Worst - Rock Bottom Maibock, I had to pour this xxxx out.

I tried 20 beers in all, with 4 trips to get more Furious.

Ive also got some Bells Expedition Stout and Stone RIS on the way....by the end of the week, Ill be 3 beers away from trying the entire top 10 Russian Imperial Stouts at BA (Dark Lord, Thirsty Dog Siberian Night, and Dragonslayer)

 My beer portfolio is progressing nicely.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Be carefull Wingnut... FatMax, Fro and TipTop are going to kick you out of the HopHead club with this type of behavior :P

Hop Wallop tripped me out. When you read that is a double IPA, you expect a dark orange brew, maybe a little cloudy ... you know, something that looks like an IPA. Wallop, IIRC, is a golden color. Poured like a Pale, but the hops still hit pretty hard.

Bout time some of you guys showed up ;)

As for the Hop Wallop, I agree. When I poured it, I was all "WTF?!?!?!". Couldnt believe how pale in color it was. As for the beer, the bitterness was pretty massive, but overall I wasnt overly impressed. I reviewed it and it clocked in at 3.85. Just not enough "oomph" for a IIPA, IMO. Glad I got to try it though.

 I was just telling a guy at work about how lately, when Im not in the mood for super hoppy, I crave Imperial Stouts. I think it has become my 2nd favorite style behind IPAs/IIPAs. I love me a good, thick, strong stout to sip on.

I just poured the Lagunitas Undercover Investigation on Shut Down. 10% bitter...damn, smells bitter.

I think I am going to enjoy this.

There will always be favorites, but the beer world is too big to isolate yourself to just a few styles of beer.

No doubt, but I just seem to get on kicks where I go nuts on certain styles....right now it seems to be gravitating to RIS's. After a few weeks Ill probably switch it up again...Ive still got alot of hoppy monsters to drink and review as well...But I gotta slow down on the trading once I send out packages to yourself, Fro, and Tip Top....My wallet is really feeling the effects lately :lmao: Plus, Ive got enough beer here or on the way to keep me busy for a while...Gawd I love beer.

Crap, I should have posted this last night. I had the Bell Expedition last night. To me, it is the best stout I have tasted to date. Very good. I even liked it more than the speedway, believe it or not. Speedway is bigger, but the Expedition is like velvet. Thanks again, Tip Top.

Beer trading is the best thing to hit the internet since pr0n. Think about it - before the internet, how could you go about securing beers you could otherwise never get unless you knew someone is another state....

GLORY BE!

I'm slowing down the trading a bit now. I'm working out one with Furley down the road, then I have another in the works with a guy at BA. No way am I calling off trading, but damn, I had so many going there for awhile that I couldn't keep track of them all.

You know, the best thing about enjoying good beer and good wine is that after a week of drinking beer in the evening, when I crack open a nice bottle of wine tommorow night, I'm going to need to change my underwear.  Absence does make the heart grow fonder.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I feel the same way about good beer, but in reverse.

See, for me, picking between wine and beer is like having a son or a daughter.Wine = son

Beer = daughter

There's no way I could ever love one more than the other, but if I don't have a daughter, I'll be dissapointed, but I'll live with it. If I don't have a son...well, I'll find a way.

Regardless, I'd hate to live in a world without beer.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Totally understand. I've never really got into wine so I can't relate, but I get where you're coming from. At least you're drinking good beer.

Seriously, if you're looking for good suggestions, this thread kicks butt. If you haven't ventured into the world of Belgian quadrupels yet, do so. Rochefort 10 and St. Bernardus Abt 12 are both awesome.

Do I find these at a grocery store?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Not at your every day grocery store. But a high end liquor store should have both. And always drink them out of the proper glass at about 55 degrees. In both these cases, a wide rimmed glass will work.

good luckone of the BA's that i traded with went to the Dark Lord release party, on the way there he stopped AT Bell's and still wasn't able to find any 7000.

Hey Furley, drink any of those beers I sent you yet?

Specifically, have you had THE ******* yet?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
no sir. i try not to drink during the week.. getting up at 6 AM with a buzz is not good for me. :( frankly i'm a little scared of the ******* probably going to set aside a nite to sip on that one.

I'll show my good beer n00bness with a stupid question for the beer guys - Over the last few months (since I found a place I can buy micros and imports) I've tried about 60 different beers. A couple of things I've noticed is that I pretty much like all the wheats. One reason is that they don't seem to have the bitter aftertaste. A friend of mine told me that the bitter aftertaste is the taste of the hops. Is this correct?

Yeah, most of the time, bitterness can be associated with hops.

Yes this is absolutely correct. Hops impart bitterness and aroma, depending on when they were added to the beer during the brewing process. IBU's (International Bittering Units) are a measurement of bitterness in beers. A mildly hopped beer like a hefeweizen is less than 20 IBU's. A Pale Ale is around 35. An IPA is over 40 and come sometimes be over 100 (Stone Ruination ale will knock the enamel off your teeth).
