What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Heineken

As always   :D
Good thing you are guzzling.
for the longest time.. when i wanted to treat myself... i'd get Heineken.had a lot of it over this past week and i'll say that it's fallen off considerably. i enjoyed the Bass i had over it.. by a large margin.
Heineken was my first gateway beer. Becks, St Pauli Girl, etc followed that. Then it was Red Hook ESB and Pete's Wicked Ale. None of these beers have been in my fridge for years.

For me it was Summit (this is natural in MN) and Paulaner.

Guinness and Pete's before I moved to the Pacific NW, then Widmer Bros and Deschutes.

I picked up a motherlode last night at Knightly Spirits.  Got ona  Rogue kick the other night in Sarasota, so I picked up bombers of Chocolate Stout, Dead Guy Ale, Smoke Ale, and Brutal Bitter.  Also grabbed a 6 each of Dogfish Head Chickory Stout and Raison D'Etre, as well as a single 120 Minute IPA.  Topped that off with bombers of Rare Vos, La Chouffe, Saison DuPont Vieille Provision, Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru, and finally, a St. Bernardus Prior 8.

Should last the weekend.
:lmao: The Abbaye de Rocs rocks.
:hot: My idiot brothers just announced they're coming by tonight, so now I'm going to have to hide all of this before the Invasion of the Natural Light Pounders begins.
My brother just called me last night while at the liquor store looking for advice. He is just starting to get into craft brew and isn't sure what to buy yet. He left with a 4 pack of St Bernardus Abt 12. Moments like those make me a proud big brother.

Had a Dominion Pale Ale last night at the airport in Washington, D.C. Pretty tasty. I'd rate it a tad below SNPA and Troegs Pale Ale, but ahead of the likes of Flying Dog.

Think I am going to go grab some St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Triple, along with a sixer of Troegs Hopback Amber :banned:

Just popped a bomber of Coronado Mermaids Red. I hop to god it was skunked because it was sour and nasty. Had to pour it out after a few sipps (10 :bag: ) On to a North Coast 2006 Old Stock Ale. Man this beer is strong.

Just opened an Old Marley Barleywine (2006). The only barleywines I've had before are Bigfoot and HOTD Fred (have Old Ruffian and Old Guardian in the fridge), and well, this one is much different. Whereas those two leaned to the hoppy side, this one is much more malty - roasted, chocolate, vanilla, etc. Literally no head on this beer either with very little carbonation. Not what I expected at all, but very drinkable and smooth.

Tonight's main event:

Alpine Pure Hopiness vs. HOTD Blue Dot in a DIPA :banned: fest

Will report results a little later.

Just finished off my first St. Bernardus Pater 6. Excellent beer.

Now on to an Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel.  :banned:
the Ayinger is definitely different. It has a smoky taste to it. I like it!
There is something wrong when Fuller has more German beer experience than me. I need to fix that ASAP. :)

And this ...I was unimpressed. For a beer that is the BA #15 beer, I expected more. Not that I didn't think it was good, because it was, but I wasn't blown away.

now starting on some SN Porters.  :banned:
SN is another brewery that doesn't know how to make a crappy brew. Their porter is very good, despite the powder blue.
:lmao: I was thinking about that earlier. Can they get an uglier color for their packaging.

I havent found that one yet and im in their backyard. Good?
Me likey. A burnt/roasted coffee taste. Just a little hop bite.

Just finished off my first St. Bernardus Pater 6. Excellent beer.
:goodposting: drink the Prior 8. or the Tripel. or the Abt 12. hell.. they're all excellent.
I have all three. Prior 8 will start off tomorrow night. Abt 12 and Tripel (along with a Rochefort 10 and a Rocs Grand Cru) next weekend.

Really? SN Summerfest, Pale Ale, Porter, Barleywine, and Stout are sold at every freaking gas station here, much less a real liquor store.
have you tried the Summerfest? I keep seeing it but haven't bought any.
Yeah, dozens of time. It's OK, nothing outstanding, but is is a really good easy drinker. It isn't anything complex that you have to think about.

Thats one other one ive tried. Pretty meh.

I can usually find the PA, Porter, Bigfoot Barleywine, Summerfest, and Wheat. Haven't seen the Stout in my area though.

:goodposting: Definitely prefer the SNPA to the Summerfest. Had both in comparison over a camping trip, and would go for the pale ale given the choice.

I agree with the comparison, but Summerfest is a lager. Take it for what it's worth.

Pretty lame beer night for me. Went bowling with a buddy and the best they had was Summit Extra Pale Ale. It's good beer, but I have been spoiling myself lately. :banned:

You really need to let those beers lay for a little while. A little age will really smooth them out.

Alright, the results are in. I'll preface this with the fact that I prefer citrus hops vs. piney hops. Review by BA standards:Pure Hoppiness vs. Blue Dot

A: Pure Hoppiness was crystal clear with a slight off-white head of good volume; Blue Dot was cloudy and little head (1/4-1/2 inch; mostly gone by the time I could get the picture).

S: PH was very hoppy in a citrus way; BD was light with more of a pine overtone.

T: Definitely could feel the hop bite in the PH from beginning to end of taste; BD was more of a woodsy/pine flavor that lagged.

M: PH rolled very well - could feel a slight alcohol burn (and definitely the carbonation) while holding it; BD carried the carbonation through and had a slight but noticeable alcohol taste at the end.

D: PH is very dangerous in that you could drink it much like a regular IPA or even a PA - definitely a very smooth beer. BD took more consideration in knowing you were drinking something of a higher AC.

Overall: After judging by pieces, I fiinshed the Blue Dot and then the Pure Hoppiness. I am certainly not saying that the Blue Dot is a bad beer - on the BA rating scale, it gets about a 4.2 from me (definite pick up more beer). But the Pure Hoppiness aligns much more with my palate (4.7 on my scale) - I would definitely buy this as a regular beer if given the opportunity.

Finishing the PH as I type this - thanks Skylord for a most excellent beer! If you like IPAs, you should definitely try the Pure Hoppiness if you have a chance (and this comes from someone who prefers the maltier beers).

Thanks. Just continues to confirm that I am much more an ale man than a lager man.

I don't know of any real beer drinkers that prefer lagers over ales. Myself included.
