What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Lets see.....what do I want to start the night off with???? I think Yakima's Hopzilla is good to go.

BA's search function sucks. "Hopzilla" doesnt bring up Yamika at all, and why is the beer listed as retired???

Oh well, Im gonna pop the cap on this badboy. Thanks, Skylord!

Because it is retired :) I secured a selection of it as soon as I heard the brewery was no longer producing beer.

Just knocked out a Southern Tier Hop Sun, which came out to a 3.9 over at BA.

Then, I'm going back to a classic I've not had in a while: Chimay Blue :banned:

I noticed that you still haven't rated your favorite beer.

Picked up a few things today:

(2) 4-pack Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale

(1) 6-pack Founders Black Rye

(7) FFFs Gumballhead

(1) FFFs Rabbid Rabbit

Maybe something else. Don't recall exactly. The Gumballs are for BOTMC. Everything else is for private consumption and/or current trades.

I know. It will happen soon...I've not had any in several weeks. I tend to go through phases where I don't do reviews at BA, and most of my St. Bernardus consumption has been during those times.About to post a Chimay Blue review, though.

So you're saying that you have to be "in the mood" and you want it to be "special"?NTTAWWT

Wow, I hadnt heard before this that they were closing. Any idea of why?? And this is the end of Bert Grant's brews??? Wow.

Just got back from taking the kids swimming at my parents. The mother####ing water was 94 degrees. :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot:
It sucked here today. Good gawd it was like.....79 or something. For crying out loud!!!!! It's still 71 outside tonight!!!! Will it never end?!?!?!?!

Added Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Three Philosophers to the other Ommegang in my fridge tonight. Has been a while (a little less than a week?) since I consumed my last brew so I hope to crack something open tomorrow.

Is that the new :sweatybanana: smilie? :X ETA:

Gator,

You will indeed get the last laugh on me. It's supposed to be low to mid 90s this week here with horrible humidity as usual when it gets that hot here. So it WILL actually suck for a lot of this week. Feel free to mock me then. Not that you ever really NEED a reason. But still.

Oh, and as usual, I've had a couple SNPAs this afternoon. Going to have a Hercules DIPA tonight.
I feel like i've seen the SNPA mentioned quite a bit lately. I had a couple myself 1-2 weeks ago. Among the most "commonly/frequently" drank beers in this thread?

Forgot to post this earlier:

My daughter is 2 1/2 now. She's a typical toddler - funny, energetic, a handful sometimes, etc. But somewhere along the way (I think at Wrigley or pre-school maybe) she heard The Star Spangled Banner (the first verse that sung at ballgames...). For the last week, she has had us singing the first verse of The Star Spangled Banner to her multiple times before bed. My wife probably has sung it to her 10-12 times each night before bed, and she's requested it many times in the car. We never turn her down when she asks to sing it. Well, fast forward to tonight. Tonight, we got a special treat. My wife started singing it and my daughter sung it with her the whole way, and missed maybe a handful of words. Obviously, keep in mind that she's heard it far too many times. And it was only the typical first verse in the link below. But that made such an impression on me. One of the many highlights she's provided in her short life so far.... :)

I don't know about the thread, but I'm willing to bet either is or has been a "standard" for many that post here. I've pretty much got it running through my veins at this point. I replaced it with DFH 60 Minute IPA as my standard for a little while, but SNPA's wider availability means that I drink a lot more of it.Cranking up the Hercules now. Always makes me think of Mama Klump from Nutty Professor.

Definitely one of my standards. It tends to be on tap even in places that serve mainly macros, so I find myself drinking quite a few pints of it.

so.... i've got a couple boxes going for trades today.

problem with one of them being that you can hear liquid sloshing around if you tip/shake the box. it's not REALLY loud. but enough that if you're listening.. you'll hear it.

what the hell do i tell the UPS guys? i've run out of ideas. have said everything from books, to snow globes, to cosmetic products packaged by my girlfriend.

i'm plum out of ideas.

Olive Oil.And you can avoid the whole thing by creating an online account with one of the places. Then the human contact is almost nil when you are just dropping off.

i'm always a little worried about just leaving the boxes on their desk. i like seeing them entered on to the system.how's this work though? do i just bring the boxes in w/ a printed shipment sheet or something?

You pay and enter everything online, print out a shipping label. Then you can choose to schedule a pickup or do a drop off. Easy as can be. Best thing is you can enter them into the system in advance of when you are shipping, like I did with yours. Entered it on Saturday, will be leaving to drop it off in a little while.

i'm going to tackle this today. it's about time i setup an account.

save me the hassle of waiting around while they help 6 other morons.

Furley,I just checked the prices and times for all three -- UPS, FedEx, USPS.

Results:

Package = large box, shipped from 60091 to 97201 (approx Duckboy zipcode)

FedEx = $26, 4-5 days

UPS = $38, 4-5 days

USPS = $31, 6 days

Did not sign up anywhere yet, but leaning to FedEx. Question is Saturday delivery. I assume FedEx and UPS do not delivery on Saturday. USPS does, I assume.

Cool! That brewery is starting to kick some serious butt. Swung by on Saturday - they had a very clean, quaffable Pils available for growler fills. Also restocked my CascaZilla and Double IPA reserves. Their Winter mixed pack will be stunning this year - Smoked Porter, Stout, Winterizer holiday ale, and Flower Power IPA. :banned:

DHL was $31 for the same quote. Also included a $3 charge for them picking the package up at my house. That would be useful.Details again:

from 60091 to 97201 (IL to OR)

42lbs

21x21x21

4-5 day delivery

Anyone know how to get a quote by carrier pigeon?

I did this for BOTMC. Scheduled a pickup, left the boxes on my front porch when I left for work.GB small town living!

too many hoops to go through. were i more prepared it'd be a cakewalk.. but i don't have a scale on hand to weigh the packages (overestimate the weight, you'll pay for it. underestimate and it raises red flags).

i'm just going to run them over tonite after work. they ship at 5:30, i should be there before that.

next time i'll be ready.

Good point on the weight.I have a good digital scale I use for homebrewing - goes up to 6.6# - so I could get accurate weights for my packages.

i'd have to be some sorta wholesaler of these things to ship as many "collectible snowglobes" as i have... just seems weird. and if you saw me, i don't look much like the kinda guy who's collecting snowglobes. NTTAWWT.that and it seems like 9/10 times i go there i wind up with the hardass, ex-MP, who grills me like i'm trying to get through Customs with no papers and a bag that reeks of weed.

he offered to open up one of the boxes one day so he could "re-package" it for me. still not totally convinced that he won't do just that one of these days.

You dont COLLECT snowglobes, you SELL collectible snowglobes (i.e. Green Bay Packer globes...thats less gay than, say, winter snowglobes)If the people at my local FedEx acted like your UPS guy does, Id go to a different place. Its really none of their business what youre shipping, so long as its not something hazardous or illegal.

 NY/New England has a tong of outstanding winter brews - a few hop bombs, but most of them malty SOBs, some spiced, some not. Should be able to work out a trade once the weather here gets a bit colder.

:stalker: what's the difference between a Doppelbock and a BLONDE Doppelbock?

haven't had any Doppelbock's yet.. but i did have a Blonde Doppelbock and i guess i just figured it was representative of the whole style. ( :wall: ) it was awful. at least to me.. bottle pour. couldn't choke down more than half a bottle.

the BA description makes Doppelbock sound exactly like my kinda beer. but i'm gunshy from the Blonde.

Well, being from WI you should know that there are multiple kinds of Doppelbocks. Hell, Capital makes a Blonde Doppelbock and a Dark Doppelbock.

don't be. go find yourself some celebrator and enjoy the malty goodnesswhich blonde did you try? :softball:

so I just shipped out Furley's package and I think the shipping place bent me over and gave it to me.

I was actually going to drop it off by my work at a UPS Store, but since my fridge decided that it didn't want to work anymore this morning :hot: I ended up staying home to wait for a guy to come look at it. Only shipping place close by is a Pak Mail (a "UPS Authorized Shipping Outlet"). According to the UPS website the charge should been around $11. They charged me more than $18. I asked the guy about it and he said it was due to fuel costs. I thought about taking my box and leaving but the next nearest location is 15-20 miles one way so I figured it wasn't worth it and bent over, took it and said "thank you".

Ayinger Celebrator is the beginning and end of the doppelbock discussion.
