What song are you listening to right now? (3 Viewers)

Good choice.

The Blue Stones are a Canadian Blues Rock duo based in Windsor, Ontario. I've posted a couple of their tunes on my Twitter timeline.

Here is my favorite which was featured on The Scarehouse Official Sound Track.

The Blue Stones - Make Your Move (2012)

Sorry, but this tune is not available on Spotify. :sadbanana:

Black Mountain Rag. Doc Watson. It never ceases to amaze me how good blind musicians can be. Stevie Wonder,Ray Charles,Ronnie Mislap,Clarence Carter to name a few.

Still on a Tyler Childers kick - Eatin' Big Time is freaking awesome. From his latest album, Snipe Hunter, I also like Bitin' List simply for the novelty of it.

It is a banger, and more Blues Rock to me than Country...and that organ by Matt Rowland gives it a Tex Mex flavor (sounds like a Farfisa).
I found this on the Twitters:

COWBOY CARTER Updates
@B7Album

American Country singer Tyler Childers references Beyoncé in his song “Eatin’ Big Time” from his new album Snipe Hunter

Yet another (4th) Mercury prize nomination.
I might have to start listening to them. :D
Saw them 7 years ago in a small club in Phoenix.

good looking out @Juxtatarot
Live version (I like the sax and trumpet at the end):

They are playing with Geese in Detroit in October. I might have to see them. Also I have to learn who Geese is. I know Goose but not Geese lol.

Geese are excellent too. New album coming soon. This is from their last one:

I keep mentioning Geese and Floppinho's connection- bass player is a few years older and did school of rock performance classes with him for several years. they did a lot of songs together... and from day 1, I knew the kid was pretty exceptional. the band is made of up Dom's NYC private HS buddies (his dad was a musician, and I think several other's too, or at least related industries). They were about to head off to colleges around Covid time to "grow up" when a song or album of theirs' blew up and they decided to give it a run.

I had already play-listed their stuff before I had any idea Dom was in the band... Floppinho's last School of Rock show, the director- who had previously set floppinho and others up to do backing vocals on his friends in Parquet Courts Wide Awake album- mentioned it to me. "this kid's already bigger than I've ever been or will be!" (mixture of sadness but mostly pride in that).

While their stuff seems to be leaning into a 70s jam kind of vibe, I've kept waiting for the other shoe to drop on each release... expecting the sound and songs to diminish. if anything, they're getting better.

Yeah, I think Cameron Winter can have a bright future. So talented.

I know their first album was produced by Dan Carey who has worked with Fontaines DC and a bunch of UK “post-punk” (loosely speaking) bands like Wet Leg, black midi and Squid. I think I can hear that influence although maybe they started out like that. I don’t know.

It took me awhile to get into the second album. I don’t think I was ready for the change in style. However it eventually clicked and I now think it’s fantastic. I’m really looking forward to this new one. I agree that they seem to be growing.

Honey Revenge - Airhead (2023)

How the hell did I miss this banger? What a great riff. This should have been a huge hit.

Lake Street Dive - When You Were Mine (Live Charlie Rose 2017)

Prince cover, but they make it their own. Just Rachel, stand up bass, the drummer on brushes and their guitarist playing trumpet.

Sorry no version of this song by them is available on Spotify.

The Beatles were an actual band. The Monkees were four strangers chosen by NBC after a casting call talent search for a new TV series.
Regardless of how they were formed, they were still a band. Turned out to be a pretty good band at that.

Well yeah, and you could also say that about any corporate manufactured Boy Band.

However, the group's origin seems to explain why The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has never even nominated them despite being elgible since 1991. From a Google search "Their status as a "pre-fabricated" band from a television show is often cited as a reason for their exclusion despite their eventual acquisition of creative control and talented members."

That said, if I were a RNRHOF voter, I would cast my ballot for having them joining that club. Their hits (mostly a product of Brill Building songwriters) hold up really well.
