What studs are retiring/moving teams (1 Viewer)

What's the shark move here for deep leagues?

A couple of examples:

Is Derek Brooks retiring, who would be his backup? Is Tony Gonzalez retiring or going to get moved out of KC, who is the pickup?

Angelo Crowell is a free agent after this season and should be able to land a starting job somewhere next season.

Any chance Fletcher gets cut and Blades gets the nod at MLB?
Damn near impossible. Before Fletcher gets cut, I can see them moving Blades outside next year, maybe weakside because of marcus washingtons decline in production. He's the LB that's going to get cut IMO

I was guessing because Fletcher is probably due a nice bonus next season. If Blades goes to WLB will he be a third down lb?

Great topic. In the past these kind of threads have come up with players such as Ruud, Cooper/Wilhelm, Bradley, Gaither, Keiaho, Lennon, DJ Williams etc.

I'm intrigued to see what everyone comes up with this time around.

The Brooks situation seems something of a crapshoot to me. With Geno Hayes on IR, will he be able to come straight in if Brooks goes, or does Cato June move across to WLB? Does previous favourite Quincy Black have any shot now that he's backing up June at the Sam?

Aaron, you mentioned Crowell. Does he have to end up in a specific scheme/position to have fantasy relevance next year? Or is it more likely that he might end up like Cato June and drop off the face of the planet?

why would Fletcher be due a bonus next season? last year, he signed a 5-year, $25 million contract that included a $10 million signing bonus. So, if they dump him after this year, they would take a $6 million cap hit. If they keep him, he would cost them $7 million ($5 million base plus $2 million prorated bonus). So, cutting him saves them just $1 million towards the cap in 2009.

well, the keys for Crowell are to earn a spot in the nickel package and to hopefully start at WLB wherever he winds up signing. There's also a small chance some team could try moving him inside. I'm still not sure what happened with him in Buffalo this year. Very strange that they were so quick to put him on IR with a non-major injury. I think they really could have used him over the past month and down the stretch. Keith Ellison is awful.

I thought he signed that contract two years ago? My bad.

This is where you have to remember that the NFL is a business.

I started a thread in the SP about who's stealing $ in the NFL - that's really a thread to figure out who will be cut and replaced either by a younger guy on the roster already or who will be a free agent.

This is how you can find the next Adibi, as everyone now knows that Greenwood's a salary cap casualty waiting to happen.

Here's my next shot in the dark (although Adibi wasn't a reach, but go with me here)....Pago Togafau, Arizona. He's Karlos Dansby's backup and Dansby is a FA next year.

Jene lists some of these in this week's Reading the Defense.

Excellent article, thanks Dr B.

Without giving too much away, buying low on the Rams, Colts and Chiefs LB situations could provide fantasy gold in 09.

Will be very interesting to see how it all plays out, even between now and the end of the season as untried players get their chance.

If only they would let Dizon have one!
