What was the best (mostly) 80s horror franchise? (1 Viewer)

Yes, I know one started in the 70s with the first one, but I mostly associate these movies as being in the 80s. I was just thinking long standing franchises that have 5+ moives in them. I know they all have their highs and lows, but I grew up on this stuff and still love these movies.

What is the best franchise, and what are your favorite movies from the franchises?

Also the opposite - what are the worst of these series?

Loved Freddy back in the day, and still love the idea of him. But on rewatch now of these, I think that once they turned him into jokester/pun Freddy the series took a turn for the worse and never seemed to recover.

As a teenager growing up in the 80s I enjoyed all three and probably ranked them Friday the 13th>Nightmare>Halloween. As an adult I have them Halloween>Nightmare>Friday the 13th.

this is me for the most part, but i like the Friday the 13th series over Nightmare now.

Probably shouldn't count for this, but Halloween also has the best remake of the 3 by far.

This is very true. But the Halloween sequels - especially 3 - drag the series down to the 2 spot.

Nightmare on Elm Street had three great (by these standards) entries - 1, 3, and New Nightmare. Plus 2 is in the so bizarre you can't turn away category whenever one happens to catch it on.
