Do you regularly drink alcohol non-socially?

Considering what’s “adult” or “manly” is fairly arbitrarily defined, I don’t worry much about what others drink, or the condiments they use
Worked in liquor for a long time. The more "expert" a person is about spirits, the less fancy they are about them.

Met a million guys who insist on neat whisky. Meantime, every whisky distiller I met uses a splash of water, to make it easier to drink.

Master Sommelier i knew: "It's a bottle of wine, it's not the baby Jesus" 😂

To me, I like to get my whiskey in the 105-115 range as that is the sweet spot for drinkability but full flavor. But there’s no right or wrong here - it’s almost always preference.
Wait, among all the other flavors, are you saying you can discern alcohol content within a 10 proof range? Have you confirmed your sensitivity with a blind taste test?

My palate is more binary: either I can taste the alcohol, or it’s effectively masked by whatever sweet/sour stuff that’s been added to it.

If you give me a 10 proof window on either side, absolutely.
My Link

I’m happy to do a Zoom blind with you and shuke. Picking out proof in a 20 point proof window isn’t that remarkable tbh.

I drink a couple of beers maybe once a year. Every few summers I will go on a bit of a tequila bender for a week or so. My son just went to college. He never once saw me or his mom take a sip of alcohol or smoke anything in front of him. That was a goal of ours and I am happy we pulled it off. He has hit the weed pen a couple of times this month, but still never drank anything. We are not recovering or anything fwiw, just don't feel the need. And we don't judge others. I lived in a frat house ffs.

I am a weekend warrior. Rarely do I ever drink during the week unless it is a special occasion or off the next day. Friday I drink about 50% of the time, Saturday 100% of the time I have some drinks and Sunday 0% unless there is a rare occurrence that I go to a football game.

20 point window? Just say 100 every time.

If you don't care what others think
Is a grown man supposed to

You'd be shocked a lot of grown men actually care what others think.
We all do, at least a little bit.

But of all the qualities and behaviors on which one can be judged, beverage choice is about as inconsequential as it gets.
Spoken like someone whose life hasn't been affected by someone else's alcoholism.

This is one thing I struggle with - too many people just can’t handle their alcohol. I don’t think banning it works and I wouldn’t want to ban it because I am one that can handle it and moderate myself. But I’m probably about to have someone I’m close to that is getting divorced because one of them can’t handle drinking without being an ***.

Appletini drinker?
Absolutely.

I’ve said it before, but the few occasions I drink, I’ll sometimes ask the server “What‘s the girliest thing you got?”

My best friend from high school is an alcoholic, and so is my ex-wife.

I’d argue the whole notion of “manliness” being equated to alcohol consumption, including the type of alcohol one imbibes, promotes abuse.

This is the one really odd comment for me in here, and I have total respect for you on this but I can't picture someone who essentially doesn't drink, but then goes on a week long tequila jag every few years. Its awesome, so don't get me wrong, just hard to wrap my head around that one.

I'm guessing tequila week starts off well enough, evoking pleasant memories of times gone by, before descending into a 50 week hangover.

I guess I do it because I can. I am lucky to have a non addictive personality. When I feel like doing something, I do it. Then I move on. Always been that way.

I never get hooked on anything fwiw. And my stomach doesn't love alcohol, my lungs don't love the weed smoke, and the beans make me moody after a few days. Crazy, I am also allergic to most beers. Guiness is one of the few that I do well with. Might have one tonight now that I'm thinking about it. 😀 Just hooked up the PS2 to play some EA college football 2009 or 2014 or whatever year it is. (It was 2011)

Actually the opposite a real man drinking a real man drink sips and savors it. You’re thinking of the frat boy who guzzles booze until they black out because they think that’s what a real man does.

Nah. The whole idea that any drink, served in any style, in any amount is ”manly” is silly at best, and probably harmful on a societal level.

Yep and not remotely harmful on a societal level. Drinking apple juice out of a sippy cup isn't the same as sipping a 20 year old Pappy. Like it or not that's just how it is. I don't make the rules.

I have no idea what a pappy is, but I’m strangely aroused by your sipping expertise. Please tell me more.

1. Slang for papanicolaou smear
2. An endearing term for one’s father
3. Pabst Blue Ribbon

What do I win?

Your life.

At times yes.

After being busy all the time I actually like being alone for a day and having a few beers by myself watching football or sitting on the deck after cutting the lawn.

We have a Yellow Lab, she sits with me when I am having a couple so I am really not alone.

That I don't know, was just a guess.
