Where in the world are the middle-aged dummies? Worldwide top 31 song countdown. (2 Viewers)

I thought I saw a list of all the artist deemed ineligible for the last two, um, events. I went through the thread but couldn't find it. Any help?

I don't remember if someone posted that, but if you look at "similar threads" down below you can click the links to the first two and see on the first page of each the posts that no one read.

Having only done a quick scan of the first six lists, I can say I haven't seen any patterns begin to emerge at all. This should be wide open.

I did notice that two songs I would have strongly believed would be on no one's list but mine have already appeared. I'm even chalkier than I expected!

We will again have two contests again for this countdown: an ***OFFICIAL*** contest and a SUPER-AWESOME-MEGA-WORLD-CONTEST!!!111. I just need to see some more lists come in to figure out what would be good questions. The ***OFFICIAL*** one will be a little easier to figure out and will be posted first.

I don't know how in the hell the Ace Award could be predictable here, but I'll include that somewhere since it made for some good fun in the last one.

My totals (assuming I don't waffle and switch out one of my bubble acts):

Men or male-fronted bands: 27
Women or female-fronted bands: 2
Bands that have co-frontpeople of both genders: 2

White: 22
Nonwhite or mixed: 9

Country representation (adds up to more than 31 due to mixed bands):
US: 16
UK: 9
Canada: 8
Australia: 4
Germany: 3
Denmark, Mexico, Netherlands: 2
Everyone else with 1: Italy, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad, Zanzibar

Decade:
'60s: 2
'70s: 10
'80s: 7
'90s: 5
'00s: 3
'10s: 4

Considering that my usual tastes are firmly entrenched in the '70s and '80s, I'm quite surprised that a solid third of my selections fall 1990 and later.

Listening to my mix still trying to determine the last five out*, and when the playlist ended it went to a suggested song for me: "Peaceful Easy Feeling" by the Eagles. WTeverlovingF?

*Reminder: feel free to send your last five out along with your lists, as I'll be posting those on March 19.

I happen to know you have received some suggestions.

CLARIFICATION: Someone has posed the excellent question of what happens to a band that was declared ineligible in a prior countdown (in this case, the US one), but further research shows that their "ineligible" member was actually born on a US military base and should have been eligible. Inaccuracies will be resolved in favor of the artist. That is, we want each artist to have a legitimate chance at being selected, so if they were incorrectly deemed ineligible previously, they will still be eligible in this countdown.

Otherwise, we'd have to have a fourth countdown just of "artists incorrectly ruled ineligible in the first two countdowns," and no one wants that.

What is this and how do we work it out?
The Idea is to give a list of the acts that ALMOST made your top 31 - the also-rans, basically. If you have a list of the last few bands you cut to get down to 31, that's your last 5 out (so a pretend #32-36). Use the same vetting rules as normal, and send the list to Krista as normal. She'll post them before we start the regular reveal to give us something to listen to/talk about until the "list a day" segment of the program starts.

Interesting. Thanks.
My last 5 out has turned into last 32, and counting, out
So much so there may or may not be a username with a secret identity that will be using my first 31 out

Good info on last 5 out, forgot about that part.
I'm down to 39 selections and need to make some tough choices. Do I go with the chalkier more well known bands or some of the weird bands I actually listen to currently? :ponder:

use krista's tool - I'm having a blast with it ...

it's weird though - because it takes it down to a "per song" basis ...instead of a band.

for example there are a handful of bands that were a meaningful part of my life growing up - and I love most of their catalog but am finding that no one song of theirs is making the top 31 against other bands with only 1 - 2 songs I like.

Are they even eligible?
Observation from the previous thread.
I’m guessing this is what krista was talking about before with a band falsely disqualified from the UK Countdown.

don't think so - I mean I don't see The Fixx mentioned in the ineligible lists in the previous drafts (did I miss it?)

and they all look like they were born in the UK that I can tell.

I have a couple of Finnish groups I was considering that I'd like to mention, but spotlighting kinda prevents me taking action at this point.

Speaking of the Finnish, I ran across this on a Finnish to English website:

Finnglish menu items (These have all been printed, truly. Restaurant names withheld):

Shrimp and crap salad for two

You can have crap on your pizza

Dead snails from Åland in garlic and butter sauce

The **** is recommending today's beef

We can serve your steak with much blood, some blood, or well-done

The house's tart is called Torttu in Finnish and is warm Ice cream with warm bear halves and toffee sauce

Mexican burrito with mutilated chicken meat and salsa

Traditional Finnish pee soup

Omelet is made with recent eggs from a local farm where the chickens are alive

Japanese guests can have traditional breakfast with stinky rice and fishes

Tar ice cream - Finnish special. Good for people who eat tar

Coat cheese and pepper in minced balls

OH GOOD GOD.

Well, this would have been an embarrassing mistake to post in this thread, as vetter of picks.

Please insert some song from Rufus Wainwright - probably "Barcelona" or "Foolish Love" - into the top 15 of my US songs. Because, you see, he was born in the US, despite my believing for, say, 25 years that he was Canadian. Turns out only his mom was Canuckian, while the rest of the fam is NYers. FFS. He seems so decent and nice. How could he not be Canadian?
