Wait just a second here. I just realized you have him as Puerto Rico. Is that where he's from? Puerto Rico was included in the US draft.
Precious is one of the great songs off one of the great debut albums of all time.
Modest MouseWild packs of family dogs...
Ten points from me if you can name the band without looking it up
Modest Mouse
For my one-pointer (and Ace award selection) - This Beat Goes on/Switchin' to Glide - would likely be higher in my list but I wanted it as the "kickoff" song. In the 80's and early 90's my local classic rock station would always play this at 5pm on Friday for the start of the weekend, and it's a great song for that.
@Krista - this should get an Ace point, right?

Here are my thoughts from my top 1000 thread.
I think it was @shuke that awarded it top score among Drug Songs back in one of the old Tim Drafts[TM]. Not positive on that.Embarrassed to say I didn't know the song, Round 2: "Pass The Kouchie." This was great. Of course I know the "other" one that was based on it.
This probly makes my top 5 prizes I've ever won. I'd like to dedicate the winning of these ten points to the CD player in my truck.....thank youModest Mouse
TEN POINTS FOR MANSTER COMING THROUGH!!

I don't recall this.
Exactly how much do you know about Chinese Diva’s?This might be the most fun countdown, as I expect to learn about soooooo much new stuff.![]()
Btw what the hell is Puerto Rico and Guam in all this? US or not?
Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Monserrat, British Virgin Islands, Gibraltar and Turks and Caicos for the UK?
We didn't really discuss Puerto Rico or Guam, I think. The British stuff we did not include. I'd just say everything you named is eligible if you want it.

The whole first real album has great tracks. Bruce Springsteen loved it so much he had them support him on their US tour in the early to mid 80s.Yeah that's the big winner for me from round 1. Love that tune and it was totally new to me.Never really listened to the Divinyls and only know them by their couple of hits but like this Boys in Town song.
I'll never be able to keep up with listening to the whole playlist each round so mostly going to focus on new to me tracks
After I selected Boys in town for this, I listened to the first US album all the way through and every track was a winner. The whole first real album has great tracks. Check out the International release version of the Desperate LP. It includes the best two songs from their debut Monkey Grip Soundtrack, Boys in Town and Only Lonely. Add to that the tracks from the Australian version of Desperate like Science Fiction, Siren and the cover of the Easybeats song I’ll make you happy and its no wonder the Boss was impressed.
After that it was a mixed bag, but I touch Myself went global and thats all that anybody really heard. Go right back to the beginning, its magnificent stuff
Musically its terrible, we all know that. But i get great joy from listening to it for reasons explained. Its my only unserious ranking, but I love it none the same. He’s a good kid so I’m glad he found some success - but it was a novelty record based on how bad he was. I apologize if the song does make some one happy and they do enjoy it, but….Mt Hung had such a great attitude in his American Idol audition as well “I already gave my best. I have no regrets at all”
Maybe I’m way off base but I feel like maybe that’s a “troll” account trying to be funny or perhaps I’m just missing some inside joke.
ETA: I re-read your post again. I guess you actually are both accounts? Now I guess I'm part of the inside joke.

There was great disappointment in their follow up album, but a few tracks still sound great. Mike Chapman and Holly Knight penned Plesure and Pain, which is their only other charting song in the US #76, Good die young and Sleeping Beauty are pretty good. The fourth single however, In My Life was excruciatingly bad. I mean awful, bad.The Divinyls were how I heard of the Dead Boys back in like ninth or tenth grade. Their "Hey Little Boy" cover of "Hey Little Girl" by the Boys got me into them.
I will try and keep politics out of this, but Garrett was always Political in his lyrics…US Forces anyone?
I always forget how good "Beds Are Burning" is. Still sounds fresh to me a million years later.
the vid remains cringey as hell, tho - it was then, and 36 haven't helped. oooffff.
though i will give spastic Pete lotsa credit for actually joining the political fray proper, rather than just watching from the sidelines.
I just didn’t know the other JML was also you. I actually thought it was some one mocking you - and then when they chose Hung I thought that for sure.Musically its terrible, we all know that. Once I got to 45 countries I realised it was gonna be a brutal hatchet job or use my imagination. I chose the latter approach.
I saw them at Shea Stadium on that tour.I saw them live when they opened for The Rolling Stones in '89 and they rocked.
I saw them at Carter-Finley Stadium. @Just Win Baby Were you there?I saw them at Shea Stadium on that tour.I saw them live when they opened for The Rolling Stones in '89 and they rocked.

Sodade is a Portuguese word for an even deeper version of nostalgia- a feeling of being incomplete. The song is about the many people who boarded ships and migrated away from Cape Verde to far away places across the globe never to return home.Sodade - I like the music and the singer. I wonder what she is singing about.

I liked that song, too.The Liars song Andy picked is really good. I just picked a Liars song in a collaborative playlist with a friend the other day, and I wished I'd looked into them further for this.
I experienced this same moment. But it was at Coachella in May 2005. They'd released Funeral the prior September and were taking off. But they still drew an early afternoon slot on the outdoor stage in May in Indio. It was probably 96 degrees at that time but they were in suits and ties. The Andalusian Dog (
My selection today is more "time and place" than it being my favorite song, or even my favorite Arcade Fire song. Lollapalooza, 2005, the first year it was held in Chicago instead of touring, and organizers had to be wondering why TF they would have this is Chicago in July. The heat and humidity were unbearable, with actual temps over 100 degrees and humidity >80%. Arcade Fire was one of the bands I was most excited to see, having, like everyone else, picked up Funeral a few months prior. In the midst of the heat index over 120, they took the stage...all wearing black suits and hats. I mean, full three-piece suits, shirts, hats. I didn't think they could survive. The played a monster set, never shedding a single item of clothing, and brought the house down. Certainly one of the most memorable performances I've ever seen.
The opened with this song and blew us all away from the first notes. While I think they have "better" songs, this is the one that instantly transports me to the feeling of awe I had at that moment .
Big Liars fan. Like I said earlier, had no idea Angus was Australian--the name should've clued me in. Check out all their albums. They're so varied but all are great.I liked that song, too.The Liars song Andy picked is really good. I’m not sure about Maxwell’s. Loved that place. I think it’s just a restaurant now - maybe not even the same name.iirc, they did some local shows prior to - and i do think Maxwells was one - or no?
I'm known as the guy who likes long songs. Eephus is known as the guy who hates long songs.
Eephus' song today is more than twice as long as my song today.
Just sayin'.
Point That Thing Somewhere Else - The Clean (The Dreaded Marco) - not sure how I've never heard this band. Wow.
Me too.
This really surprises me for some reason.
I will try and keep politics out of this, but Garrett was always Political in his lyrics…US Forces anyone?
He basically got the Greens party off the ground in Australia, but was politically hopeless. If theres a clip of him debating Bill Hayden, former leader of the Labor party and future Governor General, watch it. He is hilariously awful.
Full credit though, he did join the mainstream Labor Party and became a cabinent minister in several portfolios. After he left he pretty much went back to his mid 80s politics as he rejoined the Oils. He admitted selling his soul to try and better the system, but that the system had his measure.
Was expecting this reaction.dammit ...I am the one that submitted my list upside down. I feel so bad for @krista4 - and have apologized profusely
since we were posting from #31 ranked down to #1 ranked - I submitted my rankings that way
wanted to own up - and take the abuse ...
oh the irony of the whole "higher/lower" schtick
reaction.

I didn’t even know who that was until I wound up in Sewickley, circa '89
I liked the Mdou Moctar song. Desert Blues is some of the most accessible African music for Rock audiences. The guitar freakout at the end was top rank.
Teenage Eephus thought Gordon Lightfoot was the blandest middle-of-the-road fodder but I was wrong. "If You Could Read My Mind" is an exceptional song; the melody, lyrics, vocals, picking, strings are just lovely.
The Chilliwack song was pretty cool. I loved when the harmonies kicked in before the instrumental break.
I've shown you the lightI'm known as the guy who likes long songs. Eephus is known as the guy who hates long songs.
