Who will be the biggest first round steal? (1 Viewer)

Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
Best value for the pick? Example of a mock at GBNReport.com.

If Reggie Nelson is there at 24, I think he is a bargain. He'll be a HUGE value if not taken until early 2nd, but I don't see that happening.

Chris Houston a huge value if he falls to 33+.

Finally, I see Dwayne Jarrett in the early 2nd on a lot of mocks. I think in 5 years he'll be the 2nd best WR of this draft and a very solid WR1. The whole speed thing with him will be a non-issue. Just the opposite of Ted Ginn.

The Colts at #32 - Ted Ginn Jr, Dwayne Bowe, or Robert Meachem. Hell, maybe even Marshawn Lynch falls. The Colts will need another RB and this is a weak RB draft. . More than likely it's Anthony Gonzalez, which still isn't bad. Since this is a deep WR draft, I fully expect a very good WR to drop to #32, and the Colts use their later picks for defense.

Meachem there would be a huge value. Won't happen. Ginn, maybe. Bowe, slight chance. Gonzalez would be reaching.

I agree with you about Goonzalez, but he would fit in nicely at the slot for the Colts. Polian has been known to beat the drum at his own tune, not anyone else's, so anything could happen at #32.

Adrian peterson, for sure!

To go along with Ted Ginn Jr, Dwayne Bowe, or Robert Meachem, and maybe even Lynch at #32, I think the Colts get a steal if Justin Harrell DT Tenn falls to them.

So now that the draft is over...I'd assume the answer is Ted Ginn?
Look at the GBN projection that this discussion was based off of:http://www.gbnreport.com/2007projection.html

2007 DRAFT PROJECTION

April 26, 2007

Projected trades in blue # Team Player POS School

1 Oakland Jamarcus Russell QB LSU

2 Atlanta (from Detroit) Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech

3 Cleveland Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame

4 Tampa Bay Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin

The guy GBN projected to go third was selected twenty second by the same team whom they projected to land him with the third pick. The interesting follow up is looking at the second round where the guy GBN projected to go 4th in the second round was taken with the 53rd pick by the same team whom GBN procted to snare him with the 36th pick.

Second round# Team Player POS School

33 Oakland Tony Ugoh OT Arkansas

34 Detroit Marcus McCauley CB Fresno State

35 Tampa Bay Brandon Meriweather FS Miami

36 Cleveland Eric Wright CB Southern California

Cleveland traded their 36th pick and 1st next year to the Cowboys for their 22nd pick and selected QB Brady Quinn whom GBN projected to go to the Browns with the third pick. After trading their 2nd round pick, the 36th overall pick the Browns then traded back into the bottom of the second round with the Cowboys to get Eric Wright with the 53rd pick at the bottom of the second round. The same Eric Wright whom GBN had projected to go to the Browns with the 36th pick.

In any event I would have to say Brady Quinn would be the logical pick as the first round steal based off of pre-draft projections and that he landed on the team originally projected to draft him 19 slots higher in the first round. And I'll nominate Eric Wright for biggest steal of the second round with the same criteria to explain his case for the second round's biggest steal. I'm sure others don't feel that way but without the benefit of twenty-twenty hindsite, today these seem to be the logical steals of the first and second rounds.

Why do I get the feeling that however New England drafts will end up being the SOD?
Because you eat up everything the media feeds you without thinking for yourself? New England is one of the better drafting teams in the league, certainly top 10 and most likely top 5, but they aren't the #1 drafting team. Baltimore, Indy, and San Diego are all better drafters by pretty much any objective metric you care to use (pro bowls made, all-pro awards, number of players drafted still on the team, number of players drafted still in the NFL, etc).
