Who's the Most Famous Person from your High School and why don't I know who he or she is? (1 Viewer)

Older crowd it’d be Ben Crenshaw (golfer). Younger crowd it’d be Ben McKenzie (actor), Gary Clark Jr (musician), and the Bush twins.

Lowell High School

Graduated with Ted Leonsis - Wizards & Capitals

Milton Bradley - games

Jack Kerouac - writer and poet

Ed McMahon - "Here's Johnny!"

Paul Tsongas - politics  - still have a copy of the pamphlet A Call to Economic Arms that he put out when running for president.

Micky Ward - boxer - I'm older and had graduated and moved away before he became known, but did party with Dicky Eklund a couple times.

Actually he went to my HS for a bit too, After getting kicked out of another (where my long term HS girlfriend went and I actually went to their prom).
It ws DeLonge who got bounced back and forth from Poway to RB. Hoppus did his freshman and sophomore years in Virginia. He moved back to my home town, where he was born and mostly raised for his junior and senior years. That's Ridgecrest CA. Our HS, Burroughs hasn't produced any celebs but him, so we have his story enshrined in our hearts. haha. He also gives the most succint and on point description of this place.

~ home to "geniuses, scientists, physicists, and then just complete strung-out meth-heads".

home sweet home

Capital HS in Olympia, WA has graduated a couple of decent MLB players over the years but for my money, I'm going with Adam Kasper. He produced and engineered some great rock and roll records and won a couple of Grammy awards with the Foo Fighters.

He was a damn good soccer player, to boot. We played together in '83 and '84.

Yeah I knew Tom did (I was in the class of 93 and remember him) but I thought Mark did as well. Was conflating the two I guess (memory’s will do that. Lol, ). Just looked it up and it was Mark’s sister that went to RB.

Mark did live with his sister in your area as much as he did his dad here, so it's an easy story to confuse. No doubt they're an inland north county band. I lived in RB and Penasquitos in the early 90s. 3 years split between both. I'll always miss north county. Best times I had not counting college.

James Gandolfini

Stephanie Ruhle

Rory Friedman

Oh and Saints ST coach Darren Rizzi, before I transfered schools

Lived the vast majority of my life in SD and surrounding areas.  No better place to live imo, especially north county (both inland and coastal).

Edison High HB - Willie Ames - Eight is Enough kid.  Last name is really Upton. Was same grade as his sister Kim.
Lisa Guerrero
Jeff Kent

Madison HS (San Diego) - Mark Hamill

Burbank High - Debbie Reynolds and Anson Williams

My twins went to Mission Viejo HS with Mark Sanchez and 5 others that made the NFL.

Youngest son went to kindergarten in MV with current Angels SP Patrick Sandoval.

Nothing but the dead of night back in my little town

Fred Meijer (250+ supercenters / hypermarkets in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin. Maybe more now, they’re always buying land and expanding.) Not to be confused with Fred Meyer who founded a 130 store hyper market model in the northwest.

Favorite hometown guy - Fred Bock. He flew a B-29 plane on the Nagasaki atomic bomb mission - his plane had the recording instruments. After the war he was a medical research scientist in Chicago. He came to speak at our school when I was growing up.
A billionaire family, nice.

Hey we knew ‘em when they had nuttin!

The actual founder, old man Hendrick, was strictly grocery for 30 years. Two years before he died (1964) at age 80, he let the boys switch from “Meijer Thrifty Acres” to the Suoercenter model.

They're the embodiment of stereotypical frugal Dutch. When they were fashionable, Fred refused to buy a car with whitewall tires. Too much swag. For the longest time they lived in modest homes despite being ultra wealthy.

Widely admired in middle and west Michigan. Hard working, grew the business organically without financing. Probably different now? Growing up we never thought of them as rich. They were successful, but stayed the same kind of simple, industrious folks who are common to mid-Michigan.

My brother lives and teaches in the area.  It’s still pretty conservative.  I haven’t driven on 28th St in GR in a few years, but Sundays were a day of rest around there.

Sauk Prairie HS in WI.   All I knew off hand was Paul Gruber.  Played OT for the Bucs I believe?   When I google searched I guess somebody from the grade above me was on a season of Survivor.

I also thought Craig Culver of Culver's restaurant fame graduated here, but couldn't verify that.

Soo.... not much.

You can join either church. CRC (Christian Reformed Church) or the RCA (Reformed Church of America.) In the whole country those two denominations are <400K. In west Michigan they’re darn near the American equivalent of the Anglican Church of England.

Grand Rapids is the only place in America where “V” names are the thickest part of a phone book. (Now a hypothesis - haven’t seen a phone book anywhere in some time.)

My home county (Ottawa) last voted for a Democrat President in ‘64. As in 1864, Lincoln (R) vrs Gen George McClellan (D).

Love my homeland of Reformlandia! From afar.

Ottawa County has really grown,  especially Hudsonville/Zeeland.  Looking at a rest home now for my mother over by Holland Christian HS.

Great area! My nephews build houses and have done well around there.

All my immediate family is around Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg. Moved away 1999 but like it so much I’ve taken the kids on vacation there twice (& again this summer.)

Jeez, gotta really dig deep for my podunk HS.  Alex Azar, former Secretary of HHS under Trump, graduated 5 or 6 years before me.

For my hometown in general, it would be either Linda Hamilton or Frank Perdue.  It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken.

Best I can come up with are:

Craig Krenzel - QB for Ohio St national title team

Stephen Grant - convicted wife murderer

Suzy Chaffee - Former Olympic skier and Chapstick spokesperson

Barbara Crampton - soap opera actress and B movie scream queen. Probably best known for Re-Animator.

A few pro hockey players, the most famous of which is Matt Cullen.

One time C-list actress Leslie Stefanson (General's Daughter & a few other bit parts).

Nobody really of note.  One guy was runner-up for Mr. Basketball in Indiana and played at Purdue but didn't make the NBA.

Then there's this this tidbit I found on one site :lmao:

Heckles the Rodeo Clown, a 2000 graduate, has 19,127 career saves as a distinguished traveling rodeo clown. Working in San Antonio he received a key to city, from mayor Amerigo Vespucci, after defeating King Kong, Megatron, and Opera in cardboard boat building contest. Currently, Heckles the Rodeo Clown, is working to fix the American credit crisis by teaching the values of the barter system at local elementary schools around the country.

Only one I can think of is Colts offensive coordinator and Peyton Manning guru Tom Moore.

But I did go to the same college as the Road Warriors and partied with them several times.
