Why do so many people on here post injury questions? (1 Viewer)

I started coming here a lot recently, and I noticed there are a lot of threads about players' injuries (how serious is __'s injury, did ___ practice today, etc). Why don't these people just do a quick google search, or even just check the player news o their fantasy site that usually tells injury details?

because......more players were injured this year? This has been an unusual season in terms of injuries.

i think its more of the collective gathering of knowledge, information and homerism that sometimes helps. people chime in and express their opinion on the injury which usually includes previous history or rumor type info. :moneybag:

like the dallas clark injury...speculation on season ending and bam all of a sudden IR.

oh alright then. i just thought that injuries were specific enough of a topic that if someone wants to know the extent of, say, austin collie's concussion, they could just search for the colts injury report that states if a player practiced or not. i also wondered why people always asked "homers" for this information when, again, it's usually on an easy to read chart online

You would be amazed at some of the inside info the SP gets that isn't on a 'web injury report'
Yes, greater breadth of knowledge, larger number of sources, and info gets on this board much faster than on google. Google doesn't tell you what Adam Schefter just posted on his Twitter, but SP does.

It's really just the difference between getting corporate news about injuries or getting all of the news about injuries. You really going to use the Colts's injury report to figure out about Collie's injury. That's almost useless.

Actually Google will tell you what he just tweeted. I'm talking the serious info. There's one guy in particular whose name escapes me who has had bits weeks before the general populace.

Central Location. Easy to come to one place and read the info and discuss.

Sure anyone can go to google... but I don't recall google talking back, giving opinions, etc.

Injury info is a lot more complicated than that. Homers will know coaches' tendencies concerning injury info. Homers will also know individual players' propensity to return from certain kinds of injuries -- which guys will play through anything humany possible, and which will sit with a hangnail. Also, which coaches will let a guy sit out of practice all week but still start Sunday, and which ones won't -- the homers will know.Further than that, some (most?) teams, as an operational strategy, obfuscate actual injury statuses. A good 2010 example is Sean Payton and the Saints hiding for two months that Pierre Thomas had a torn tendon in his ankle -- most observers thought he had a nasty sprain, but would return a few weeks after the injury. So you had FFB owners in here in early October thinking about Thomas as a sharky pickup for the second half of the FFB regular season ... Saints homers were in here to warn others about Payton's injury-reporting tendencies.Another Saints example -- the Saints like to use "sports hernia" as a covering term to avoid being specific about an injury (e.g. Jabari Greer last season). Homers can usually offer insight into this kind of stuff.

Yes, consult the Colts injury report for up to the minute news. There's a wealth of information. As for why "homers" are asked? Really? Many homers listen to local sports radio, they get to see the games on TV (we don't all have the Sunday Ticket) and they read the local beat writers in the news paper while they're taking a dump. I suppose I could find the local radio feed online and listen to 1 1/2 hours a day of each AFC team on Mon, Wed, Fri and each NFC team on Tue, Thu, Sat, all the while my wife reads the newspaper from each teams hometown aloud next to me while I scribble notes furiously.Or I could be part of a community such as the shark pool, where people are willing to share what they know.Serious question - what kind of info would you prefer to see on the message board in November and December?

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been involved with FF?

If it wasn't for people posting about injuries in this forum I probably wouldn't have gotten a heads up on the Dallas Clark injury to get Tamme. It's really valuable to have people posting in a central area rather than me having to do searches for several injured players.

When I ask injury questions like the Vincent Jackson one that is on the front page it is because I have done my homework and discovered no information. If I had not posted the thread I would not know that Jackson was at practice in near as timely a manner because a homer found out through twitter and posted it well before you would find word about it on Google. I bet if you google now it doesnt come up.. Sometimes there is information to be had when you ask for it.Edit: Its on google now but this was hours after the news broke here.

Also, the SP will typically discuss related topics such as prospects of the injured player's backup(s) should they have to play as starters, how other skill position players might be affected, etc.

But it's true what I think the OP is getting at. There's a lot of laziness in some of the injury topics where guys just throw out a question because they either don't know how to or won't bother to look up an easy answer.
