Why do we keep putting up with the South? (1 Viewer)

Using a Yahoo article to support your side is usually a bad move. Another point for the South.
Failing to see it's a CNBC article republished on Yahoo: 2 point penatly for the south.
Not even clicking on a link to a slideshow about the 10 worst places to live: +3 for the South.
Not having to live in the south: priceless.

There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's MasterCard
Can we ease up on the math? This thread is starting to hurt my brain.

Looks like the North stopped fighting.
I think they got bored of the south's weak argument.
Every once in awhile some Sons of Jefferson Davis Hogg put down their whittlin and scrub board playin and all get worked up about the North. They hoot and holler about how the South is better, how they'd be better off without the North and how much the North sucks. Then they declare the South to be something or other, they get tired and then retire back to their porches and moonshine jug blowing. Yes....they have better spices and yes...their women are generally better looking until they get to be about 22 and discover the joys of the tub of Miracle Whip.....but other than that, they are the regional Charlie Brown; eternally doomed to have the football pulled away everytime they think they're going to kick it.

1 - Tennessee

2 - Oklahoma

3 - Missouri

4 - Louisiana

5- Alabama

6 -Michigan

7 - Indiana

8 - Ohio

9 - Kentukcy

10 - Arkansas

Still not sure how Mississippi doesnt make the list
Nice to see Michigan represent :gang2:
I saw that on the news this morning. Not sure why Oklahoma is listed, i love living here so im not getting this unless people are that afraid of tornadoes

I think you're misrepresenting who started this thread. Also, a semicolon is used when there's a whole sentence in the next clause.

Oklahoma isn't South but KY and VA are? We aren't talking about the Civil War here.

The north border of OK is barely north of Arkansas north border. Most of OK is even with the panhandle of Texas.

OK is either south or west. It ain't north.

We're not talking about south. We're talking about THE South, and Oklahoma ain't part of it. Neither are Arizona or New Mexico if you're keeping score.

Know what other Northerner hated Oklahoma? Timothy McVeigh. Congratulations.

It's like arguing the difference between a runny turd and a watery turd. They're still both the worst kinds of turds.

If you do talk about the Civil War, the majority of tribes in Oklahoma fought for the Confederacy. The state is certainly not the deep south, but it is heavily influenced by southern culture.

Texas is officially part of the "Old South."

It's times like these that we need to turn to the infallible resource that is yahoo answers.

I lived in Oklahoma 8 years, parts of it are southern, but when you refer to the entire state it is a plains or mid-western state. Any area north and west of Norman definitely isn't southern, but then again it is hard for me to define certain areas of southern states like Fort Smith, Arkansas as southern. Geographically it definitely isn't, and culturally it has certain aspects like a love of football, and you can get sweet tea in certain areas of the state, but again overall it isn't.
No, it's Mid-Western. But it is one of the most geographically diverse states in the union.
No it isn't. It is considered part of the Mid-West.
And some random guy on the internet also tried to figure it out. I don't know him but he's probably really smart.

The conversation went on for days. I could sense I was losing the argument. All the Oklahomans who posted seemed to think their native state was in the Midwest. This disturbed me, but why? There was something hopelessly dull and uninteresting about being from the Midwest. Someone else, a friend in New York, agreed. “It’s in the Midwest, but I would rather it be in the South,” she said. Why was the South an improvement on the Midwest? Being from the South had its own set of problems. And what about the Southwest? Maybe we were Southwesterners. - See more at: http://thislandpress.com/11/14/2012/south-by-midwest-or-where-is-oklahoma/#sthash.Ztf8cVHI.dpuf
There you have it. From undebunkable sources. UNDEBUNKABLE.

I believe so. Many think not, but if you ask me, Okalahoma is down south. That's just my opinion
Oklahoma is part of the south. I have lived in Oklahoma my entire life. Our accents are different then any other... But that's how it is. We are not midwest. That's Kansas.
i've lived in oklahoma my entire life, i consider it southern

Those last three are just a bunch of uneducated mid-westerners talking. I wouldn't listen to them.

I didn't realize Smoo moved South?

Ah yes, the lmao tactic. That's when you know Christo is out of ammo. I guess the Census Bureau and Wikipedia calling it South is hard to refute.

It's my opinion that any state entirely west of the Mississippi should not be considered either North nor South - that's West, an entirely different region.

Any top 10 lists of sucky states to live that doesn't have New Jersey doesn't count.
A few of those are better than Maryland also.

And Texas isn't the south, Texas is Texas. Oklahoma is the plains or the southwest, but an extension of Texas.

Both those states are better than Maryland and New Jersey though.

Are you asking me or telling me?

If you're going to claim an education and intelligence advantage over a whole group of people, you should probably make sure you don't look like a moron while you do it. However, I think that fits with the North's M.O.; you don't have more education or intelligence, you have more hubris and unearned airs of superiority. You also may have an unopened leather bound coffee table version of Strunk & White's Elements Of Style - just for show.

Oh, and GL with the flood of illegals coming across your border.

With the exception of our insane brothers in Texas, I don't think most of us care much about "illegals." Hell, they helped rebuild New Orleans after Katrina. Also, I believe that the proper term is "undocumented immigrants."
Officer I did not steal this car, my ownership of it is simply undocumented.
Mr. Wonders, I'm afraid you didn't just get caught speeding - you're an illegal driver. You weren't caught urinating in public, you're an illegal pedestrian. You didn't get ticketed for loitering, you're an illegal stander.
Out of my great respect for you I will not respond, other than tangentially, to what is very subpar work by you. I suspect you are tired and disinterested and so did not really give this your normal effort.
I always appreciate people responding to me to tell me they won't respond. And yes, I care whether you call people illegal immigrants about as much as I care if you call nipples "naughty mountains."
I'm going to start doing so.

I'm willing to compromise. When I think of "the south" I think of this:

The Deep South: various definitions, usually including Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina. Occasionally, parts of adjoining states are included (sections of East Texas, the Mississippi embayment areas of Arkansas and Tennessee, and northern and central Florida
I would add anything south of Richmond in Virginia and most of North Carolina being the south. Delaware is not the south at all, Maryland has a few southern counties that play south even now but this state isn't like Northern Florida or Tupelo. Texas and Oklahoma have southern themes but I would consider both "western" or the southwest. Cowboy boots, cattle, arid conditions, little green, no rebel flags, even the BBQ is different. San Antonio is more Los Angeles than it is Atlanta, Abilene is something out of a John Wayne western.

not too long ago, Team South was claiming everything from Illinois to Pennsylvania. Now they don't even want Oklahoma? :lmao:

Yeah. I'm as okay with Oklahoma as I am with Texas, but almost any definition that includes Oklahoma includes Maryland/D.C. and Delaware. Fine, we'll take 'em, but it sounds like the Northerners don't want to give them up.

I agree with almost all of this. I'm tempted to push East Texas into the South category (my roots are in West Texas and I live in the bullseye region of the Dirty South, so I'm mildly qualified to make this statement), but despite all it's negatives it's distinctly not the South.

What part of North Carolina isn't the South other than Cary (Containment Area for Relocated Yankees) and Duke's Campus (NJ and NY infested)?
