Why do we keep putting up with the South? (1 Viewer)

I spent the weekend at Devil's Thumb Ranch. I woke up there this morning and left at 5:00 a.m. I drove past moose, elk, and a very portly porcupine on my way into work. I got to work and to my desk, (free covered parking by the way ) by 6:45 a.m. I worked straight through to 4:00 p.m.having lamb chops and spanakopita brought to my desk from the cafeteria, cost $10.00. I left work and went to a club for drinks and to hit a bucket of balls. I'm home now.

Exactly. Now that's a place to live.

If you were starting a country and had a city draft, are you telling me you wouldn't draft NYC in the top, oh I dunno, say 1?

I get it, we work harder and we're stupid and we enjoy life less, but if you need an engine for your economy, don't you start somewhere around there?

I'd draft nawlins or Memphis, cuz we gots them good barbacues!

I can't imagine that being a good pick.
I hate NYC
Don't you want an engine for your economy?
What kind of gas mileage does NYC get?
Worse than a Lamborghini.

It's hard to believe people on this board still try to argue opinions with Otis. It would likely be more productive to argue with a brick wall, or perhaps an iron skillet. Really, any inanimate object will suffice.

Yesterday I fly fished the Fraser River while enjoying a Media Noche cigar and a nice single malt. My wife and child spent the day horseback riding and getting a massage. The chef was happy to cook my trout for our dinner. We had a nice wine and the wife and child a nice fruit tort for dessert. I went moonlight zip lining after.

the only reason is you to have drive threw the South to get to Florida, outside of that, got no use for the South
You really through down the gauntlet with that one.
What do you expect from someone in Detroit?
Violence and profanity.
He will ####### kill you mother ####er.
This
That's fine. Just because you need someone to express it for you doesn't make you any less of a Northerner. That kind of repression, misunderstanding of your own motivations, and random violence is why we love you Northerners so much.

Also, your spelling.

Sorry "UR SPELIN, LOL"
This is really easy to solve. Tournament style.

If you type into Google - hottest women in [insert name of state here] you get a series of pics in the image page of hot chicks from those states. Many are college pics, the third or 4th choice will be a magazine shoot of the famous hotties from that state, and then a collection of others. We could easily map the 50 states pretty quick.

From there, define North vs. South. 25 states on either side - or not - you could do the 13 v 11 from the civil war if you want. Whatever. It's pretty easy. So you have the hot chick bracket.

Do the same for food. Each state google page search is easy to find food that is famous from this state - and if its not that is also the point.

Do the same for sports teams - the collection of the big 4 (MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL) plus NASCAR, MLS, golf and add your own here. Whatever. Again, this is easy.

Do the same for natural disasters suffered. The south has hurricanes. North has blizzards. That type thing.

All in all you can get a pretty solid ranking of the southern states vs the northern states. Add up the scores and we have the best - north or south. At least here. The north already kicked your ### in the war, but if you can claim this as a moral victory if (really, when) you win.

Someone set up the thread. Make it so. Git r' done. Whatever.
I just compare literacy rates, teen pregnancy rates, and ######ation rates.

The strength of the south isn't in her urban cities... don't think the south will win stacking them up side by side. I can't say its in the countryside either; I'd take Adirondacks,VT, and NH over the Appalachians.

South climate is Munich better, I don't think there is any debate here.

Culturally, its different. I'm not one to say NY cusine, for example, is better than Carolina or Louisiana, that's a matter of taste, imho. I suppose NY has more arts (theatre, for example) if that's what you are in to, and certainly better schools, although the south is not devoid of upper-calibre universities.

If money wasn't an issue, I'd rather live in the north, personally. As it is, I'm happy with how far my dollar stretches in Charlotte. I like my 20 min commute, my big house, and proximity to friends and family. I like being 2 hours from mountains, 3 hours from the beach, and a simple 4-5 hours from Florida.
I don't disagree with any of this, except that I think the weather in the north is great. Yes, colder winters and more snow, but snow around Christmas is kind of awesome, and we aren't in sweltering humidity for so much of the year. Give me a place like Maine. Gorgeous.
Forecast for the balance of this week - hotter in New York City with equivalent humidity as compared to Charlotte.

and Charlotte won't crap it's pants in a rain storm....snow?? That's a different story, but it doesn't happen all that often down here.

If you search "hot southern girls," in Google you get, well, you go see.

If you search, "hot norther girls," in Google you get, well, you go see. (although the second picture that comes up has to be a tranny playing volleyball.)

No other parameters. No specific definition of what is south and what is north. Just..... search. And enjoy.
I see a lot of the girls that were hot southern girls on the northern page. Don't try to lay claim to our women folk.
Oh so now northern powerhouse Google is to blame. Of course.
Is Stanford in the north now?
I live a mile away from Google in Mtn View, Calif.. Didn't realize we were acquired by New York.

Let's be honest now, You spit on the road in Charlotte and there are 200 accidents in an hour.

I've spent plenty of time in places like Wyoming, Rochester, NY, Syracuse, etc. I understand winters in the north. The way I like to think of it is like this: the first snow of the year is great...the snow is clean, the airport has that crispness, its exiting. The last snow sucks - you are tired of shoveling, the snow is dirty, you are depressed from looking at clouds, in general it sucks. In Charlotte, we get one snow storm a year... the snow never gets to the sucky stage.
Yeah but June-August must be hell on earth.
Summers suck in NYC too. Used to sweat through my shirt commuting to work on the train. Don't pretend like you're California. There are lots of things that make NYC awesome. Weather is not one of them.

Yeah apparently O has made a land grab. What I don't think he realized was in his rush to grab the west he got some real winners. But we'll just slow play that for now.

Let's roll with music Otis. Give us your top five or top ten guys/gals. Pick one or the other - talent or influence.
I'll start:

The North

The South
Well Frankie was pretty good. It's funny to see all those white girls screaming for Bo in 65. The cop doesn't look too happy about it.
Yeah, Frankie was not bad, but in my effort to compare rough equivalents, one is clearly not nearly as good as the other.

Northeast music is a surprisingly narrow body of work. What do you have once you get past Frank Sinatra and Lou Reed. Springsteen I suppose, then it drops to Tom Petty and Aerosmith. After that you're left with George Thorogood and Joe Satriani.

Tom Petty is from Florida.

How did LA get classified as North? It's a few hours away from Mexico, lol.
Think about the Civil War not geography. The South is all of the Confederate states. The North is all of the Union states. California was in the Union so it's part of the North.

Now you may say the Civil War has been over for almost 150 years, the South lost and we should all move on. Just don't say it in the South.

Hey now you need to give us back Tom. He is a Floridian born and raised.

My bad. I lived in Philly back in the early 80s and kind of always thought of him as local talent for some reason. Never bothered to consider alternatives.

He was born a rebel. Down in Dixie, on a Sunday morning. There's a southern accent where Tom comes from.

yeah he looks inbred

As a lifelong resident, I've heard Texans hate a lot of people and a lot of things for a lot of strange and pointless reasons. But this whole "Texans hate Jews" thing seems to be unique to Otis. Weird angle.

I did get it on with a Jewess in a closet during a College Republicans Christmas Party once though.

Otis. . Slow down. You're going to have a heart attack proving you're better than the guys in the south who don't get Northeast stress.

I don't know, stress down here is pretty bad. On my 15 minute commute today I had to slow down to almost 20 miles an hour so I didn't hit the family of ducks crossing the street in front of the drive through daiquiri shop.

Real fast - if the South is the area with the terrible summer weather, why are Northerners the ones who perish during heat waves every year? Because every summer I hear about a bunch of people in the Northeast who unfortunately expire during a heat wave.

Because the geniuses in the north haven't mastered Air Conditioning. There are still places in the north that don't have it. Seriously.

I seem to remember 3 college kids dying in a heatwave in Mississippi back in 1964.

Wait, it might not have been a heatwave.

I think it's one exit from Oildale. Which is basically hell filled with NeoNazis.
