Why is Andra Davis Ranked so Low? (1 Viewer)

A Davis had a great season in 2003. Then last year he got injured and was playing ok but not as well prior to injury. Now this year on the real time rankings he is 25th LB. When I checked a few days ago he was 31st. So he has been upgraded, but I think by end of August he should be ranked in top 20. To me this is a clear instance where too much reliance is put on the previous year stats and not enough on the player and circumstances. The Browns D should see the field a lot and opposing teams should have plenty of run plays. This is good for A Davis' tackle numbers. I've got him in the low teens.

Real time rankings equals one man’s opinion at the moment. Judging from the IDP cheatsheets, I believe that John Norton will have Davis ranked higher than Aaron.

Davis played in a 4-3 last year. The drop is due to the change to a 3-4.
...and Davis tore his MCL last year.Don't forget...Davis (along with practically every Brown on the roster) is not one of Romeo's boys. When a new coach grabs the reigns, nobody's job is entirely 100% safe. In less than six months, two of the Browns' Top-5 picks over the last 1/2 decade have been given their walking papers. A 5th-round LB with a knee injury obviosly won't have his name written in concrete for the foreseeable future.

The only guys on the Browns' roster with acceptable slack are Edwards, Pool, and maybe Frye.

True, but Savage was already the GM and Crennel was the coach when the Brown’s decided to tender Davis, a RFA, at the highest level (compensation would have been a 1st and a 3rd round pick). Other LBs were not so highly valued. So I take it as a sign that they have some faith in Davis. But you’re right this is a contract year and it is critical for Davis to play well.

Good point, the move to 3-4 should somewhat reduce his stats, down from near top 10 to bottom teens. I admit the change in administration adds a little extra risk. I think he's their best LB but stranger things have happened elsewhere where the better players went in the doghouse pretty soon (Cards O-Line). I will temper my expectations a little...
