Why is Deuce sliding? (1 Viewer)

I think a few people are worried that his stats will fall with the dismantling of the Green Bay offensive line. I really don't think he'll take that big of a hit, but it could be a reason that noone seems all to excited to get him this year.
I've always been in the camp that says offensive line changes are too often overrated by ff'ers. I remember hearing the same concerns about Alexander last year...I guess those persons missed out on a top 3 back in '04.

Yeah, that's true. I picked up Alexander with the 10th pick in my redraft league last year and he was reason number 1 behind my league championship.

Alas, I think we might be waiting until tomorrow to see LHUCKS strategy on the turn.  If I recall, the Miami Dolphins owner works a night shift and probably won't make his selection until morning.  Man, this is crazy.  I haven't been this excited about football in March well...  ever.  What with the Vikings actually getting free agents of note and now the dynasty draft.  It's great.
I took Ahman Green at 2.03 and then immediately offered him up for a trade, nobody has responded yet. But if I were one of the three people that didn't go RB in the first round I would seriously consider trading with me.So now I've got:

1.10 - Deuce

2.03 - Ahman

Slightly aged, but remember I have the 1.03 rookie pick which should add some solid youth to my RB group. Also, there is a pattern here, so far both picks have been spent on players coming off down years, much of which was due to minor injuries.

I don't know if people realize that Ahman was running with fractured ribs last year and is just one year removed from a monster season.
You're right. I see a pattern. Garcia anyone?

Brad Johnson? Jay Fiedler? Ricky Williams? Oh, wait a minute. I know. Suggs! It's Suggs. Right? Don't lie to us, we know you too well buddy. ;)

It's not a "Toomer"... Ricky Williams is well rested.

You need a Taylor.

I've got McAllister at #4 and Edge at #7, so I would have made the same pick.Moss at #9 seems out of whack - I took him at #18 and wasn't sure I had made a good pick.EDIT: I have AGreen at #5. That's too high, probably, but I definitely would have taken him at 2.03.

What was wrong with Seattle's O-line going into last year? They returned everyone for the third consecutive season.

Jamal Lewis at 2.06 ... what a steal. Personally would have taken Jamal or Rudi over Ahman but that is just my preference.Moss at the #9 pick does seem a little high. I like the idea of taking Moss (or Cpep or McNabb) if you have one of the 1st 2 rookie picks and grabbing a RB at the other pick on the turn.

Yeah...that was a slide. That's why I was trying to trade down. I have Lewis and Green ranked about the same, so I figured I'd try to trade down and grab Lewis while moving up in the third.

how did LHUCKS manage to sneak another Rate My Team look how great I am post in the Shark Pool?
 lol at a "rate my team" implication after one pick.

Whatever Rudnicki. This thread has had more meaningful action/discussion than anything else out there...the # of views/posts over the last 14 hours or so are an obvious indicator of this.

You may resume your ramblings in the ffa...shoo now, we're busy discussing dynasty ff in this thread :clyde:

Jones held out until September. ;)

MOMENTUM GAINING

May I ask who did this?
Seriously...I would not touch him in round 3!
Culcasi(Cracker) took him in the mid-second in Z30 I believe...still too early for my taste, but I'm not as high on him as most.
Just to clarify, no disrespect to people taking him this early. I know there's a few strong Culpepper backers here, and I've advocated taking Manning early in early season drafts so I'm not arguing strategy. I'm just wondering who did it.
I don't think he's a FBG, and I'd rather not post his real name...some people are sensitive to that.I just noticed in Z28 C-Pep went 1.03
Link to this draft please??

I understand this is a dynasty draft but i cant believe priest slid past LJ.

In Z30, I wound up getting Priest Holmes at the 3.09 spot (#33 overall). Larry Johnson went 10 picks earlier at #23 overall.

I got a fortunate break that the draft stalled at the 2.06 pick so I took the opportunity to try & trade up from 2.10 to snag J.Lewis. Fortunately when the owner with 2.06 logged in he took the time to read all of his emails before drafting. I also considered McCallister at the 1.05 where I went with Portis. Duece is an incredible talent that has been hindered more by his surrounding cast of knuckleheads (Brooks, Haslett & the former OC) then he was by his injuries. For me it came down to who would be able to figure out how to use their stud RB more effectively in 2005, Gibbs or Haslett? No way did I think Duece would fall to 1.10 however, or Edge to 1.12 and A.Green to 2.03 Worked out nicely for LHUCKS who may have to change his name from the Cardinals to the Packers after scooping up Walker. We'll be keeping a close eye on who pulls the trigger on Favre

Link to Z31 DraftYeah, didn't think I'd end up with two Packers but with Ahman at 2.03 and Walker at 4.03 I thought there was too much value to pass up in both instances.

So my team stands at:

1.10 - Deuce

2.03 - Ahman

3.10 - Clayton

4.03 - Walker

Clayton may have been a bit of a reach, but I really wanted him on my squad so I jumped on him. I expected to get hammered on the boards for that one.

My next pick is 5.01, which position would you guys go? Who would you target?

I've got 4 or 5 players in mind.

Penguin,I think you're having the best draft of any team thus far. Trading up to get Lewis was a great move and I really like Andre Johnson. I was actually looking at the draft thinking, "I wonder who the owner of the Pats is?"

Your draft thus far has really stood out.

I thought you reached a little for Clayton at 3.10 He will be a very solid & consistant week in and week out producer for many years to come which is a big plus but I think his upside is limited, but I don't think he'll ever achieve the high end numbers of a Chad or Andre Johnson. He is a guy you'll be able to plug in with confidence every week and not have to worry about giving you a goose egg which is nice. I'm not going to offer you any help at 5.01 as I think you've gotten enough already in the first two rounds ;)

:boxing: On Clayton, I think anybody who puts up the rookie numbers that he did has some upside...especially given the turbulent QB situation last year. I had narrowed down my choice at 3.10 to Steve Smith, Clayton and Walker. I had a hunch that Walker would be there on the comeback so I took Clayton.

Unfortunatly I didn't take Andre Johnson in the 3rd, I took Harrison over him. I went back and forth between the two for quite awile. I may regret that one but I believe Harrison is going to be around for another 4 or 5 years and with payton at the helm he can't help but put up good numbers. They have an incredible chemistry between them and he keeps himself in excellent condition so I see no reason why he can not continue to play at this level. I was really hoping to get Holt at that spot but the Colts nailed him one pick earlier, I pegged the Colts as a "Harrison guy" but I was wrong on that one.

Ahhh...can't say that I like Harrison more than AJ for dynasty. It'll be interesting to see how long Harrison can stay in that upper echelon of WRs.

Andre will be around long after Marvin is gone but I think Marvin still out produces him the next two or three years, just long enough for me to groom that extra first rounder I picked up (by trading back from 1.03 to 1.05) into the next young WR sensation.

Good pick LHUCKS. I was hoping that McAllister would fall to me at 1.08 in Z30, but he didn't. So I took Jackson over James. Was really hoping that Barber would be there in the 2nd, but Cracker got him. Damn sharks! :hot:

LHUCKS,Are you saying that you don't like my Chris Brown pick at 2.09? I thought that would have commanded your respect, but I really like my first three picks of McGahee, C. Brown, and Chad Johnson.

I might have gone with Edge over Deuce. There are some things that make me a little nervous about Deuce- people forget they were both born in 78. Before the draft in 2001 Deuce was seen as a potential top ten pick. He slid (the rumours I heard- and they are talk radio rumors- no link) was that there were questions about his work ethic and his ability to play well when dinged. When I look at him now, I don't see what I want to see in a 26yo rb. He looks puffy and a little soft- I think he is about 10lbs heavier than his ideal playing weight. Outside of the freak that is Jerome Bettis, rb's that last usually keep themselves in very good shape. He also gets drilled when running more than I like to see a feature back get hit. So while I think he can be productive this year and next, I think when the wheels come off Deuce they are going to come of fast. I also think it will be much sooner than most people think.

Also, I am not a big fan of taking a QB late in a 6pt all td's dynasty draft. There is a huge gap between the QB1 and the QB12. I think that the problem is- while QBBC works great for survior format, and can work well in a redraft- the viable QBBC candidates change every year. You find yourself constantly seeking out a new QB. It takes a long time for most QB's to develop. If you drafted Ramsey, Carr, Harrington, Palmer, Leftwich, Big Ben(I admit, he looks capable), Rivers in the past few years, you are waiting and anxiously hoping. However, if you drafted Portis, Westbrook, Davis, KJ, Jackson, Javon Walker, Andre Johnson, Clayton- you have a legit quality starter right now. If I was in the middle of a dynasty draft in round 2 and McNabb was still on the board, it would be hard for me not to take him. You can always get older wr's on the cheap to hold down the fort until you get a good young one. You can draft immediate impact rb's in the draft. It is so hard to predict steady QB FF success, that it is hard to pass up once you find it.

The problem is that everyone agrees on the top three QBs, so you have to pick them very early. I prefer to wait until the 7th round or so and grab two of whoever's left from Brady/ Bulger/ Hasselbeck/ Delhomme/ Pennington/ Plummer/ Palmer/ Brooks. Call them QBBC guys if you want, but I'd rather have Brady + Chad Johnson than McNabb + Charles Rogers. I'm no more confident in McNabb's long-term success than I am in Brady's, but I really prefer the third round WRs over what you see in the later rounds. My Z34 draft (I traded out of the first to get an extra second and third round pick):

Moss-CBrown-CJohnson-Taylor-Duckett-DJackson-Heap-Brady-Branch-Vilma-Pennington. I'm happy with my QBs and the players I got early in place of the big three QBs.

LHUCKS,

Are you saying that you don't like my Chris Brown pick at 2.09?

I thought that would have commanded your respect, but I really like my first three picks of McGahee, C. Brown, and Chad Johnson.
Heh, it took awhile to decide on Bell over Brown, but in the end it came down to injuries, and style. Brown has shown much more than Bell, and WHEN he's healthy has been a stud, but I'm in the camp that believes with his running style, he'll have a hard time being healthy for more than 12 games a year.Bell is a high risk high reward player for sure, I didn't like the spot I was in, but since SOMEONE traded up *shakes fist* to grab Lewis, I was left with little choice.

BTW, Penguin, I agree, your draft has been the best so far, looks like I'll have to make it up in the defensive side of the ball. :boxing:

I went the QBBC committee approach 3 years ago and patted myself on the back for it. I curse myself for it now.Last year, in my 6pt all td league (-3 for INT's), McNabb(QB3) outscored Brady(QB4) by 90 points.

Chad Johnson outscored the following players by the following points (not a point per reception league):

Lelie 32

Chris Chambers 51

Marcus Robinson 54

Key 58

Housh 59

David Patten 60

McCareins 67

Ronald Curry 81

Eric Parker 83

David Givens 52

Rod Gardner-90

There was a bigger drop off from QB3 to QB4 then there was from wr9 to wr 46. Think about that. There was also the same drop off between QB3 and QB4 than there was between RB1 and RB9.

McNabb when healthy, has been a tremedous FF force.

re: Culpepper 1.07I see it went to the Vikings, so, little bit of a homer pick? High to me, but I've seen worse. Maybe he thinks a RB slips to 1.06 rookie?

I went QBBC in all of my leagues last year banking on Plummer to put up decent QB numbers and it worked out pretty well.QBBC usually doesn't work very well unless you find that QB that is ranked 10-20 preseason, but finishes top 6 or so...see Plummer '04.Basically my usual strategy is to go QBBC when I have a solid sleeper QB that I'm confident in.

encaitar is the fbg that made that pick, he posted earlier in this thread regarding the pick.

can you change the title of this thread to reflect that this is actually about a zealots draft, and not deuce?

My point is that it's not that much of a gamble. We know Brady, Brooks, Green, and Favre will be available late, and that they'll finish top 10.Maybe it's a bad approach by me - the numbers of the drop from McNabb to Brady vs. the WR drop surprised me a bit. I've been very successful in redrafts doing it with the same guys every year, and I did fine in my first year of dynasty (Plummer as well), but perhaps long-term my thinking is flawed. I guess I'll find out.

well I started it with the intention of discussing Deuce's value in dynasty drafts and it has kind of grown into a generalists thread with a variety of topics...I'm not even sure a "zealots" title would be very accurate.

I've been very successful in redrafts doing it with the same guys every year, and I did fine in my first year of dynasty (Plummer as well), but perhaps long-term my thinking is flawed. I guess I'll find out.
I agree...especially in a league where you're starting 3 WRs and 3 RBs.

I know it's lame to quote yourself, but this should have generated some discussion about the orginal topic. Of course it could just be the fact that once Bass speaks, nothing further needs to be said. :P

From November on Deuce averaged 14.6 FPPG. Here's the list of those who finished in front of him (full year stats).

1 Holmes,Priest - PT risk

2 Tomlinson,Ladainian - no brainer

3 Alexander,Shaun - no brainer

4 Barber,Tiki - Duece has more TD upside

5 Davis,Domanick - Fumbles could put him on the bench

6 Martin,Curtis - Age

7 Jones,Julius - Way under rated

8 Dillon,Corey - Age, not a receiving threat

9 James,Edgerrin - May be traded???

10 Westbrook,Brian - Everyone thinks Reid wants RBBC

11 Johnson, Larry - Priest

12 Pittman,Michael - May not be the starter

13 Brown,Chris - LHUCKS says he's a ####

Deuce may not have the upside of several of these guys, but his risk is far less the most of the guys in front of him. You don't win your league in round one, but you sure can lose it.

Well I drafted Deuce so I certainly agree with your assertion. Deuce is #3 in my redraft rankings, thus you don't have to convince me.

Deuce is a ####. :excited: Chris Brown = "I AM IRON MAN" in best synthesized Black Sabbath tone. ;)
