Why is there such a witchhunt regarding Romo? (1 Viewer)

I get that. I do think the prototypes for QB's with great running ability are Steve Young and Russell Wilson. Both look to pass first, but were/are not afraid to take off running when the defense gives them an opening.

I think the media definitely overhypes running QB's, but I do think they have value as they put pressure on a defense that a traditional pocket passer does not. Plus they are exciting to watch (which leads to the media overhyping them).

I am a big fan of Palmer but he's not even in the conversation. His career trajectory was maybe, possibly, perchance on a path to be better before getting his knee blown out in '05 but other than the '05 season Romo has outperformed Palmer on every single level (win %, comp %, TD %, INT %, YPA, YPC...everything) and by a pretty wide margin.

Romo's offseason work was limited the last two years by back surgeries. Now he's as healthy as he's been in recent memory even though he turned 35 in April. That's good news for the Cowboys, who may have to rely on Romo for more volume now that DeMarco Murray is gone. Romo was wildly efficient last year, finishing as fantasy's No. 11 QB despite ranking 23rd in pass attempts.

Tony Romo believes the Cowboys' stellar offensive line could extend his career.

"When you have a good offensive line like we do the thought definitely crosses your mind to ensure you do everything possible to play longer than maybe what you had envisioned," Romo said. Despite turning 35 in April, the Cowboys still believe they have a five-year window to win a Super Bowl with Romo. Romo took just 30 sacks last season.

Palmer has had a pretty good career, but he's near the end. Romo is playing at an elite level......Yea, that's right, I said elite. Go ahead and look at the stats.

All Romo has to do is win one ring and hes in the HOF. Hes the second rated passer ion the history of the NFL. Hes got all the numbers. Best Cowboy QB ever, the other two are in and Romo isn't finished.

 
I've dished out my share of criticism to Romo. But the "choker narrative" that has followed him since he bobbled the FG snap in Seattle is largely false. His career numbers are right up there with the best QB's in the league. Football is a team game. We can measure players by their individual stats, but it only tells part of the story. IMO, the lack of team success during Romo's time at QB is mostly due to lack of talent and depth at key positions. Specifically, the secondary, pass rushers, and mediocre offensive line play. Lets not forget how long the Cowboys put bandaids on the O line before committing to build the line we currently have. The failures fall on the FO and coaching. The FO has turned the corner recently. The handling of the draft, FA's, and the cap has all been much better the last few years.

All QB's throw "those" picks. I believe you're insinuating that Romo's picks are the reason for the Cowboys failures. If you actually watched the Cowboys games, you'd know that Romo is far from the reason for the Cowboys failures.

All QB's throw "those" picks. I believe you're insinuating that Romo's picks are the reason for the Cowboys failures. If you actually watched the Cowboys games, you'd know that Romo is far from the reason for the Cowboys failures.

I'm just saying he's thrown some huge, back breaking picks. The Cowboys are weird, to me. They've got a funky, intrusive owner and a flaky chain of command. I don't blame Romo for that. But they've gotten close. And several times when they've gotten close, Romo has thrown those big picks.

It's Brett Favre syndrome. Not saying he's Brett Favre, but when you're used to carrying a team on your back by making big plays as your best chance of winning, you are used to taking bigger risks in important situations. Now that they have set him up not to have to rely on that anymore, there will hopefully be less of a need to take make-or-break gambles.

But more times than not, when the game is on the line Romo comes through. Like I said, the choker narrative is false. Its something that is perpetuated by the media and people who don't really watch the Cowboys.......And, lets be honest, people who hate the Cowboys. There are plenty of haters that are emotional about their take on Romo. Hell, I know Cowboys fans that still think Romo is THE problem with the Cowboys. These are fans that don't watch the games. They watch sportscenter and listen to what the media says.

The choker narrative with Romo is definitely a false one. When he did throw one of "those picks" in the loss to GB in the playoffs last January? He played well in that game and would have had a great 4th down conversion to set up the go-ahead score with several minutes left if not for the NFL's stupid rules about catches.

 
Funky reception rule or not, you could argue that the fourth down call in GB was dicey. What's the old quote on long throws? "Four things can happen and only one of them's good."

It WAS fourth and short. The long throw was gutsy but low percentage. Was the Dez throw Romo's only read? Again trying for too much? Same old Romo?

 
Final two drives with under 8 minutes to play.....with Dez in the locker room....11 of 12 148 yards 2 TD's.........

 
well, the good news for Dallas is that the rest of that division is terrible. if Romo can come back after 6-8 weeks, and they can win just a couple of those (certainly not a given, or even likely), they might not be out of it.

Picked him up after waivers ran yesterday in both my 10 and 12 teamers. As soon I took him in one league I got a text from another owner telling me it was a great pickup and he's so mad he didn't realize he was out there.

This may be the case in more leagues than one would think...

Been rolling with Dalton, but he plays at Denver week 16.

 
any tidbits coming out of practice? I've got Dalton as well and definitely thinking about Tony this week.
