Will Tebow get a chance to start? (1 Viewer)

Kyle Orton is having a very good season. He's currently 3rd among QB scoring in my league. However, the Broncos invested a 1st round pick in Tim Tebow and are currently 2-5. A couple more losses could eliminate them from the playoffs. I was thinking about trading for Orton, but this has me concerned. If the Broncos are eliminated by week 12 or so, does it become Tebow time?

The Broncos picked Tebow for 2011 & beyond, knowing this would be redshirt year. Tebow isn't ready. and may not be next season. Except for some gimmick plays that are 90% running, Tebow won't see the field. Unless Orton gets hurt, I'd say he has a 0% chance to start a game this year.

There is no chance Tebow will start and he should not start. Orton is playing far to well and Tebow is not ready. This is not even an option.

Denver's problem is definitely defense and this was a known issue before the season started due to injuries.

Tebow isn't going too learn anything or get any better by watching from the bench.

You're looking at it from the perspective of evaluating Tebow's ability to be Denver's quarterback of the future.

But perhaps Denver is looking at it from the perspective of evaluating Orton's ability to be Denver's quarterback of the future.

Tebow won't start this year cause if he's a bust McDaniels will be fired. McDaniels job hings on Tebow so don't expect to see him until sometime next year.

Do you remember how many people said the was no chance Tebow was gonna get drafted in the 1st round?

Look at it this way - when Denver was losing 59-14 to Oakland this week, Orton still came out and played every snap until the end. If they were looking for an excuse to get Tebow some snaps, that would've been the perfect time.

If Orton were not playing well and the team was struggling, yes, Tebow would see the field more. But, I don't think anyone attributes the team's struggles to Orton. So, unless Orton gets hurt, Tebow won't see the field this year except in limited situations.

No......God didn't decree it yet.

He's just not ready to run an offense yet. I'd keep Tebow on the bench, just rolling him out (pun intended) for some rushing plays at the goal line or on some end around/fleaflicker gadget plays. Trotting him out too early runs the high risk of varnishing the sterling brand he claims. From a business perspective it's critical to Broncos, Inc. to maintain the mystique and allure that he commands.

Tebow won't start. Nor should he. If Kyle Orton keeps playing like he has through the start of the season, then Tim Tebow might never get a chance to start. Denver drafted Tebow in the hopes of getting top-10, top-5 performance from the QB position... so if they're already getting that from Orton, why make the move to Tebow?

It's a lot like the Brees/Rivers situation. Sure, Rivers was drafted to be the QB of the future, but Brees was playing so well that SD had no intention of sitting him until he suffered a career-threatening injury and his contract expired.

I wonder if they will try to trade Tebow next off season? There comes a point where it doesn't make sense to have a #1 QB pick sitting on the bench.

Way too early to have that discussion. Tebow's had 7 weeks to develop. Orton's had 7 weeks where he looked great. If Tebow's slow to come along after another offseason, or if Orton is maintaining his ridiculous pace over a substantial sample size, then I'm sure Denver's brass will start talking about what to do with one of their QBs. In the meantime, odds are great that one (or both) of them show themselves unworthy of the long-term starting job over the next 2 years.

Orton's had 5 weeks where he looked great. If Orton keeps playing like he did the first 5 weeks then Tebow won't see the field in Denver for a long time if ever. However, we know how these things go sometimes (just look at Denver through 6 weeks last year), and if Orton plays more like he did the last two weeks (40% completion percentage) then things will be different.

Don't overlook the fact that Denver needs to develop future stud WR Demaryius Thomas. Tebow won't help much in that department.

Orton ranked 9th in DYAR in week 6. ;)

See now I don't necessarily agree with this. D.Thomas was a project wide receiver coming out of college, still needs a lot of polish, and has multiple competent players on the roster. Like Tebow, there is absolutely no rush to get them on the field. Thomas will get reps but probably won't see significant time in comparison to the other 3 wrs until the back third.

The rivers/brees comparison is terrible. Aside from a hitch, Rivers was light years further along then Tebow is right now. Also, Rivers top 4 contract was a much bigger consideration then Tebow's top 30 contract.

What's terrible about it? Team has lightly regarded incumbent QB. Team spends 1st round pick on QB of the future. Lightly regarded incumbent radically raises his level of play in response, relegating QB of the future to the bench. While the particulars vary (Rivers was 4th, Tebow was 24th, Brees had several years left on his contract, Orton was in the last year of his contract), the general scenario seems pretty comparable to me.
