Will the pass interference rule ever change? (1 Viewer)

I may be crazy, but I just don't get why the horrible PI rule is still in place in its existing form. Teams have used it, as a strategy, to try and get calls late in games to advance the football. I don't think any penalty should have the kind of impact that PI does on a game, with the exception of serious personal fouls.

I think that PI should be reduced to 10 yards and an automatic 1st down. It still discourages manhandling the receiver, but is not such a monstrous game changing event.

What say you?

I agree that the current calls, not limited to PI only, favor the offense far too strongly.I don't think that will change tho. The current decision makers of the NFL have determined that offensive football sells. At the end if the day it is about the money as always.

They should just cap PI at half the distance to the goal line, like other penalties.

If they don't change the rule...they should at least give the coaches the option to use one of their 2 challenges on it. We have all seen plenty of game changing PI calls that were really not PI after another look at the replays.
