I'm curious if the combination of getting natural immunity due to COVID exposure and then getting two shots of Pfizer later on has the same results as someone who gets two shots of Pfizer first and then contracts COVID roughly four months after the 2nd dose.

Asking for a friend.

In either scenario, I'm assuming that the impacted person would have higher antibody levels against future infection but I haven't seen any studies on whether or not the former and latter scenarios end up being relatively equal.

joe rogan's moronic statement of getting ivermectin, for his covid treatment, is going to set us back even further.  and i guarantee that he's vaccinated.

I dunno his training. He's a regular doctor that specializes in endocrinology (my brother has Type I Diabetes) with 30 years of experience
so, probably better than some brand new GP, with a DO.  sadly, where the info comes from, really matters these days.

Still cruising along with my natural immunity. Know a ton of people over the last 2 months with covid, who were vaccinated. Many of them were really sick. Friend's dad is in the hospital currently a couple days after getting the jab due to a bad reaction. They think he's going to pull through but was touch and go for a couple days with his O2 in the 60s.  Make your own decision based on what's best for you.

Lol. This is just so asinine. The moronic thing is blaming everyday people for all of the problems happening with covid and never the corrupt ruling class or the "leading experts" some of you guys seem to worship.  They actually don't care about any of us and want you to blame fellow citizens, while ignoring the people really at fault.

Who's really at fault? Specifically.

A brand new GP with a DO is likely to be far more well versed in all things COVID-related than a 60 year old endocrinologist.

This is not to say that a 60 year old subspecialist cannot keep fully up to date on current medical issues not directly related to their field of expertise, but the new GP has likely spent the past 18 months of residency treating predominantly COVID patients and is far more likely to be more up to date on vaccine and treatment recommendations based upon recent data. And the endocrinologist has probably not been directly treating anyone for COVID 19, ever.

I say this as 54 year old pediatrician. I treat COVID patients most days and have done my best to keep up with the new science being released constantly.   The young docs I work with have been very well trained on COVID.  I learn from them all the time.

He also got a monoclonal antibody infusion which will be the real reason he recovers fairly quickly. But I’m sure he’ll credit ivermectin.

Are you suggesting the Joe Rogan is "everyday people" and not part of the "corrupt ruling class"?  If we can divide people into those two groups, I feel fairly confident that someone with a $100M contract is a member of the latter rather than the former, despite his ability to convincingly play an everyday person on TV.

asinine?  joe rogan is nearly god to a lot of people.  my BIL being one of them.  he has 13 million followers.  he's definitively part of the corrupt ruling class.  he's advocating a horse deworming medicine as a part of his treatment, by his drs.

but do tell, who's really at fault?

My wife, who has some type of autoimmune issue which causes inflammation and something something mitochondria, asked Rite Aid about getting her third dose and she was told that she needed to bring in a doctor's note prior to 8 months post-second shot.

Could you just stop?

Signed, everyone.

It's kind of amazing how many anti-vax people just happen to know somebody who suffered a serious reaction to the vaccine.  Or who got seriously ill after a breakthrough infection.  Those sorts of things are incredibly rare, but they seem to happen to FBGs on a regular basis.

Kind of like how we had dozens of FBGs who got covid in December 2019 or shortly thereafter.  What are the odds?

Somebody should really look into why the particular population of this message board is so catastrophically unlucky.

I hate this as well.
Early in I thought it may have been an anti-vac term to deride the vaccine but then it seemed like everyone was using it.  I haven’t myself but no longer think it’s anti-vax.

I know I got lambasted early in the COVID game for questioning people just based on percentages. I’m just not a trusting person when it comes to anonymous things like here and radio shows. Hey Billy, I wonder if any of our listeners have had a cousin who made love to a man bear pig. Of course, 2 seconds later a guy who bred pigs for a living describes an orgy he was part of that included a grizzly bear.

I don’t believe any of these anecdotes from people who clearly have an agenda. It’s really sad how stubborn and stupid some people are.

As soon as a person uses the term "the jab" I tune them out, no matter the side (pro or anti) they are on.  Is that wrong?
British folks and Aussies get a pass, but otherwise ... yeah.

Yes it is.

It must be crazy odds because most people I know and interact with (especially at work) are vaccinated and I've yet to hear of any horrible reactions aside from the normal 24-36 hours nor any serious breakthrough infections.

I'm just really lucky, I suppose.

It bugs the hell out of me. I don't tune the user out, but I think less of their article/speech.

FDA may only approve third shot for Pfizer for September 20???

Haven’t  people already received third Moderna shots?

What are they thinking??
I don't known about the Pfizer thing, but remember that there's two totally separate "third shots" going on:

1) Third shot for the immunocompromised -- this is not technically a booster. This is meant to help get immunocompromised people up to the antibody level others get after two shots. This has already been approved and is ongoing.

2) Booster shot for those 8 months past their completed vaccination -- approval for this is coming in a few weeks. Don't know if it's going to be Pfizer only. Haven't seen anything about only one brand of vaccine being available for boosters.

Top federal health officials have warned the White House that the Biden administration’s plan to begin offering booster shots to most Americans later this month may have to be limited initially, with third shots made available only to people who had received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter.

Janet Woodcock, acting commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, and Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told White House coronavirus coordinator Jeff Zients on Thursday that their agencies may not be able to approve a more expansive coronavirus booster plan that they, along with other top doctors across the administration, endorsed last month.

Last month, President Biden announced his administration would begin offering booster shots for all Americans beginning the week of Sept. 20 pending approval from the FDA. Americans were told they should plan to get a third shot eight months after they received their second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine.

Now, Woodcock and Walensky, who have faced criticism for endorsing a plan before FDA approval, have warned that their agencies may need more time to make a determination about recommending boosters for people who received the Moderna vaccine. The FDA has only partial data on Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters.

To be fair, I don't know anyone personally that's died of Covid.  I'm not equating the two, but just saying it might not be the best metric.

That said, Flapgreen's post is a perfect example of why I try not to discuss politics anymore.  People think they can just drop some baseless conspiracy they heard in their bubble and the rest of us will accept it as fact without any need for evidence.  It's so tiring.

how did you qualify?  or did you just walk in and get it?
They are giving them to anyone who wants them here... just made an appt at CVS.com walked in and got the shot. Not a single question regarding qualification was asked.  I know at least half a dozen folks locally who've gotten it in the same manner.

Considering we have literally millions of shots just sitting there...

I'm taking my sister to get shot # 1 today.

Been wearing her down for months now about getting it.

Going to ask them about me getting my 3rd (been 5  months since my shot #2)

We'll see what they tell me.

Weird, just got my 3rd shot as I use Humira for psoriasis. Rite Aid didn't ask me for anything other than my vaccine card.

Question for those not getting the vaccine.

If you were somehow able to know for a fact that you would get Covid in a couple months, would you take the vaccine right now?

The question I've been asking them this week....

If your daughter had a masters as an Epidemiologist, would you listen to her?

Very thankful I was vaccinated.   In my group of friends, three of us got Covid at about the same time.  Two of us were vaccinated, one was not.  The two of us that were vaccinated are recovered (I'm still isolating, but feel fine).

The unvaccinated person is having a very rough time, and now her young son looks like he has it as well.  She isn't in any shape to take care of him.   That means her mom (unvaxxed) will probably need take care of him, and she'll get it.   She's not a healthy person.  This is how hospitals get overrun.

TLDR, but had a good ending.

So my car broke down on the way to her house.   Multiple warning lights.

I pull over off the freeway, at barely 20 mph

Call her, tell her whats up.  told her she still needs go down at get that shot.

<crickets>

I said, 'come on, just do it.

She says 'I'll try.'  Which is a NO

Hung up, took my car to the dealer, and they managed to fix it in about a half hour.

Never called her to let her know I was still coming over.

I drove like a mad man, pulled into her driveway.

She yelled 'Does this mean I have to get the shot?'

I just said 'Get in the car'

She got shot #1

I'll be back in 30 days.
