WIS XVIII Discussion Thread (1 Viewer)

I think we agreed on a Ruth to Bonds format.

Any chance we start drafting before Christmas? It'd be nice to have something to do during the holiday break/slow down.

Post Ruth to Pre-Bonds sounds good - that is what we discussed before, correct?

Dibs on Arky Vaughan.

1914 is the 100th anniversary of the Federal League. We should include them in the player pool.

The Federal League player pool is really small. I doubt we could even do a 12 team Fed only leeg.

So, is it worth adding the federal league in a draft as deep as Ruth to bonds? It's basically adding Hendrix, Kauff and a few others. Maybe next go around we do Fed leaugue within another dead ball variation or something with one year from every decade and include Fed League.

Make round 24 a federal league round? Everyone gets 1 and the teams that missed the great picks in round 1 get the best.

Is the Ruth to Bonds thing firm? Is it inclusive (1914-2007) or covering the gap between their careers (1936-84)?

Nothing's set in stone I'd think. That was the consensus when things died down after the last go round. The idea was after Ruth's career ended to before Bonds began. Gets a lot of outlier years out I'd think.

I thought we agreed on 36-84. If that's the case, not sure how the Federal League comes in here.

We had agreed, but not as if it's the law of the land here.

That said, I'm totally down with 36-84 and we can figure out a schticky approach for the next one that can include the Fed league.

Let's just settle it so Spreadsheets

Yeah, I kind of like the Fed league twist the more I think of it. This leeg needed a twist since this draft would have been mostly straightforward.

Problem is it will really slant things if we slot it in during one specific round. Yeah, round 24 two guys get great players and then... well...

I think Fed League is much better suited to be included in another type of draft. A year per decade type thing or something else quirky. Maybe you need to have someone from the 1800's, someone from deadball, someone from live ball, someone from world war II, someone from... type thing and include the Fed as one of those.

Now, if I'm guaranteed to get a top two pick in the fed league portion, I may be more agreeable.

A year per decade type thing or something
Slightly modified, but what about a "best of the decades" type of roster?

I could be down with that. Either for this go around or do ruth to bonds and then this in the wings.

In light of the timing with this going to be the 100th anniversary of the Feds, I say we go with this, then post-Ruth to pre-Bonds with the next.

While I like the eras, I'm not sure the end database will be much different than a general all era draft. Would prefer Ruth to Bonds and that one after, but ok either way.

Sounds to me like someone already has his KoyaSheet compiled

And the "All Decades" theme presents a paradigm shift that he's ill prepared for...

All Decades is a pretty simple KoyaSheet - and the Ruth-Bonds would be a good chunk of it.

Plus, I think we are all pretty aware of the key dos and don'ts for an all era team.

Some of us aren't. You would think I would eventually figure this thing out.

Let's settle on this #### so we can start drafting before jfranco gets back from vacation

I'm in for this. Like the Ruth-Bonds idea best. Could do the Decades idea RnR posited as well.

:goodposting: Not vacation but traveling for work.
Have you no internet access while travelling for work? I've made some of my best picks while on the road. Then again, I drafted Dave Steib while taking a wizz at Mohegan Sun casino during a business meeting (note: the wizz occurred in the restroom, not in the meeting itself).

So much greatness in this post. I feel like the bolded should be made into a movie or six-part sitcom.

I made a few picks while moving from SE Michigan to NW North Dakota earlier this year. I remember drafting Jim Abbott in a Grand Forks travel center's bathroom.
