WR A.J. Brown, PHI (3 Viewers)

I’ll possibly regret this but in redraft I dumped AJ Brown for Keon Coleman. I see an ascending, young alpha WR in the making versus an aging WR who looked slow, couldn’t separate, is possibly injured, and doesn’t seem very content or interested.

oh no

Honestly, I think the hammy is worse than advertised. The rest of it is just you trying to talk yourself into benching him, IMHO.

He isn’t old; he isn’t slow; he is far from a malcontent or a guy that’s gonna check out.

I’m thinking about benching him, too. He looked gimpy and like he was a decoy against DAL. The only thing that’s giving me pause is usually a huge week following a Week with 1 target.

If the KC D plays anything like they did in the SB and in week 1 against the Chargers, they will have to be beaten through the air, which means Brown needs to be a big part of the game plan if he's healthy. If he doesn't see many targets, that tells us he is definitely not recovered.

What does “dumped” mean? Like, traded? Or flat out dropped?

Well. I would give up Keon Coleman for AJ Brown 100% of the time in all formats. Even in dynasty. Imo

Thank you. AJ scares me a bit. Wouldn’t be surprised if he retired mid season. Dude walks to the beat of his own drum like no other.

So you think he’s Antonio Brown personality-wise? That’s way off. You’re buying into media hot takes that have no substance.

If you think Coleman is going to be more productive, then go with your gut. But AJB is an extremely hard worker and won’t be kept off the field except by injury.

You know what, Pip? AJ has been weird before. His social media account—and you can argue that it means nothing and I'd grant for some guys that's true—and his other interviews have always been a little strange. I remember him talking weird stuff in Tennessee and I don't think it's ever ended. I actually think that people who talk about Hurts being aloof and too cocky and that's why he and AJ are always having little sideline issues or emotive sessions don't give enough thought to the possibility that the Eagles have a bunch of weird cats and that Hurts might be the normal one. AJ and Elijah Moore as best buds tells me a bunch.

I'm not saying he's not weird. I am saying he's not self-sabotaging/self-destructive like late-career AB and is not remotely a threat to quit in midseason.

Hurts is to the Eagles as Jim is to The Office. Even his boss (Sirianni) is weird.

Yeah, I get that. Retirement would be extra weird. Lots of money left on the table also, and I know and remember that AJ is definitely about some cash.

I never really watched The Office but I think I get exactly what you're talking about.

One of the most interesting storylines of this season is that the Eagles defense lost their Jim (Brandon Graham) to retirement. Will anyone be able to fill that role? Obviously it's not Carter.

Back to AJB, he's got a hell of a work ethic. He presents as a diva sometimes, as do many elite WRs, but he is genuinely committed to his craft.

I don’t think the guy will retire, but after watching the other night I’m not surprised if an owner wants to move him for someone with more upside in a higher volume passing game.

We all kind of went into the season thinking they’d throw more but it doesn’t look like that’s their plan.

Now trading for Bigsby as well.

Agreed. I take back the retirement comment. I’m still mad about the 1 grab for 8 yards. I do think Coleman will be more productive. That’s my primary rationale.

They may well have to throw more because their schedule is harder this year than it was last year. But their Plan A is run-heavy and they didn’t need to deviate from it much on opening day.

So how does this exactly work? Lowest scoring team last week get a gift from the gods or does someone have to spend 100% of the FA budget? Also if Coleman wasn't drafted was this a three team league or are you limited to 12 on the roster?

The idea of trading a guy because he couldn’t get separation for 1 game for a guy who the knock on him coming out was he didn’t get separation, is, well, ironic. But hey in this crazy game it could turn out to be a brilliant move. I’d wish you luck but as I have AJB in my league of record, I don’t.

He said later on that it was a trade, not a drop/add.

I still think they'll throw more. Their defense looks a little worse than last year and its a harder schedule. More teams will put a spy on Hurts. This was a weird game.

If you look at Hurts' aDot and time to throw stats from the game it certainly seems like an outlier.

Also, Dallas D played a two high shell....which essentially took AJ out of all of Hurts' reads.

That being said, I see AJ in the WR 10-20 range going forward and wouldn't expect top 10 numbers unless there are some drastic changes.(Saquon injury etc.) If you can get predraft value for him in a trade, I would consider it.

Don’t make me start screaming “AJ Brown will win almost EVERY slant route” Again.

If they are playing the deep ball you bring a YAC monster like this in on some slants and crossers.

Something definitely is/was physically wrong w him

That's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it works out for them.

Matt Harmon from Reception Perception:

A.J. Brown

The box score for A.J. Brown was not kind, and the film wasn’t any better. In fact, it was even more discouraging than the fact that he didn’t receive a target until there was less than two minutes remaining in the season opener.

Brown led all charted receivers with a 79.1% success rate vs. man coverage in 2024 and cleared an 81% success rate vs. zone for the third straight season. In Week 1, he checked in with a 44.4% success rate vs. man (30% of routes) and 57.1% success rate vs. zone (70% of routes). Not only are those far from his usual standard, but they are also first percentile marks for a full-season profile. Yikes!

My only explanation for this is that Brown is still not healthy following a multi-week absence from a hamstring injury in training camp. When he’s on the field, teams account for him. And quite frankly, so much of his deployment in Week 1 does scream “decoy” to me.

Scott Barrett of Fantasy Points claims that he actually got a "0" for a separation score. It was actually negative. He said it was awful.

Something isn't right.

AJ Brown moving around well at practice today. Something tells me a big time game is on the horizon.

AJ Brown still locked in. And saying all the right things. Not that I thought he wouldn’t, but this guy wants the ball wants to make an impact with it in his hands.

He mentioned that he didn’t really care about the shoutout he got for his blocking last week.

Anthony DiBona
@DiBonaNFL

"Nick Sirianni sent a message to Philadelphia’s top pass catchers prior to Week 1:“There will be days that you’ll have two catches. There will be days you have 10 catches.I need you guys to handle that with the same selflessness that you handled it last year.”

I don't know. Between his body and his usage I would be out like 19th century bathroom. I mean, you actually have analysts that aren't adjusting to this reality saying that you should see high on like Breece Hall for him. Uh, no. Not with RB scarcity. I get that Breece is ceding work. But A.J. Brown is not somebody I'm even remotely close to buying. It's not good.

But then there's this, so maybe I'm wrong? Who knows? Oh, Faust posted a Tweet from this guy. Who is this Dumas guy, his agent? Hype man?

I have to start him, went zero RB in a start 3 WR league and my Flex is also a WR lol. Would be reeeeally cool if they get him more involved. Like, super cool.

He'll probably go 9-11-1 and you'll both be happy. KC has a solid run defense.

Goedert likely out and the Slim Reaper always slim? AJ time!

The Insiders on @NFLGameDay Morning: #Eagles plan to target WR AJ Brown early, while Xavier Worthy likely plays next week; Mac Jones starts for the #49ers, his top choice in free agency; Inside #Vikings QB JJ McCarthy’s wild and heartwarming week.
Hopefully this is just early decoy stuff and after they run Saquon 10 times straight, they pivot to throwing to AJ in the 2nd when nobody expects it

Grabbed several shares of Dotson for close to free. Just in case AJ Brown doesn't get back to normal and because Dotson has had a very positive drumbeat kind of offseason and was at least involved made a couple plays week 1. Just speculating ahead in case something is amiss here.

I’m watching AJ being interviewed in the locker room rn. He is doing his best to be a good soldier, but his demeanor and body language give it away- he is unhappy with the Offense and how he’s being used. (HOT TAKEZ!!1!1)

I wonder how long this keeps up at a low simmer before boiling over.
