WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (7 Viewers)

Not trying to stir the hornets nest, but is he actually worth 30 million a season? All my posts are pro player getting that money. Having said that, we are allowed to question. Is he worth too 5 we money? Is he worth Tyreek money? I get he does more then catch. He blocks. I get it. But 30 million a year? Wow
Yeah, I had similar thoughts. but when the cap goes up and the 9th best WR signs for $40m next offseason, Aiyuk’s deal will look like a bargain if he keeps up his production.
You know what. Absolutely great point.

I’d argue no.

But then, Lamb hasn’t been paid yet. And in a few years it might seem like a bargain.

My position 39 pages or so back (so like, last Tuesday) was that in the context of the 49ers gameplan where he’s likely to be in the 70-80 catch range, he might not be worth it.

That said he could be hyper efficient and earn the money. I’m not optimistic that’s true.

That said with the cap going up every year, it might not seem that bad in years 3-4.

Is he worth it? Most likely, but when you're the 49ers and you're already paying CMC, Deebo, and will have to break off a contract to Brock Purdy in a few years, that's where the question comes in.

The Pearsall pick makes way more sense. If Pearsall can give you even 65% of Aiyuk's production on a rookie deal, then suddenly Aiyuk wouldn't be worth it and you'd rather use that $30,000,000 to pay the QB and some guys on the defense.

Same situation as Tee Higgins over in Cincinnati. If it was just about player equity, it's a done deal, but if I can get similar production without paying $30,000,000 then that's a no brainer for any prudent GM. Tough situation for a coach to navigate though.

"You do a great job, Brandon. We're just hoping we can get Ricky to do it for a fraction of the price. You understand, right?".

If he signs now, and the 9th best WR is making $40 next year, then we should probably start discussing Aiyuk's 2025 holdout.

Nope. If he were Packers Davante Adams, I'd say yes they should devote that chunk of the cap to him. On SF with CMC, Deebo, Kittle, the scheme, and Purdy's contract looming, I think it's an easy decision to pass on his demands.

@Wingnut what's your take as SF fan?
I haven't seen any credible source say SF offered $30 mil so I haven't thought much about it.
Guru & Steinny guesstimated that the upped offer “might be” in the neighborhood of 30, based on the fire numbers.

Everybody’s just guessing at this point. Even a certain dude on Twitter.
Yeah, I kinda stopped paying attention to it all. When something finally happens, I'll probably hear about it here.

And I think that's the real question. And why this has gone on for so long.

I assume if the Dallas Morning News has the number, then someone from the team gave it to them
Yeah - the way information flows in today’s world it’s either a team leak, an agent leak, or a player leak.

Or it’s people making stuff up, which there’s also more than a fair share of. Especially now that blue checkmarks are for sale & Twitter destroyed its own credibility.

Ah well - 2024. What’re you gonna do.

Twitter credibility is the same it's ever been. Blue checks still made **** up back then too.

The more specific the rumor, the most skeptic I am of its validity. Like that crap about Minkah Fitzpatrick being rumored to be going the other way in a trade. As if these Twitter randos who buy blue checkmarks and bot followers to boost their follower count are in the same room as these GM’s as they’re conducting business. People will make stuff up online, and then aggregate sites will post it and make it look like it’s actual reporting. Sports Illustrated has become like Bleacher Report where just anyone can write something and because it’s a name brand, people will believe what they’re reading without vetting the source. It is really sad and pathetic the lengths some people will go to for engagement, namely these make-pretend reporters who troll people with fake rumors for their own amusement.

I don't even look for this kind of stuff until it actually happens. Once a trade happens, I'll get at least 10 notifications and my group chats will be blowing up. You won't be able to miss it.

The downside of getting bad information doesn't outweigh the upside of knowing the breaking news an hour before everybody else and I save time not looking for information that doesn't actually exist. I have spent exactly 0 minutes looking at Brandon Aiyuk rumors and know just as much as the people who have been digging for something for the last two weeks.

Food for thought.

No - back in the day the checkmark was a verification system. People with blue checks were not anonymous, nor did they pay for the privilege.

Sources were credible because they were verified to be credible.

Blue checks that abused the system & “made stuff up” lost their blue checks.

This is why you don't mess around all off-season and try to nickel and dime. It is better to be the first team to sign a player and set the market then be one of the last teams to sign. It almost always cost more to do it this way.
Agreed, but there’s also the part where Aiyuk was under contract and they thought they had a year to work it out.

But they should have known when Aiyuk & his g/f made all that noise after the SB.

I disagree no player that is playing at a high level and they team wants him back goes in as a lame duck, especially on rookie deals. Rarely do they negotiate during the season.

Yep - that came off more as wishful thinking from Niners fans, or someone pretending to be an insider throwing spaghetti against the wall hoping for a sticky noodle.

Yea I know what the system was. They still had blue checks that made **** up to be first and drive engagement. Not much has changed except every one can buy one now

Isn’t Trent Williams holding out too? He signed a 6 year deal in 2021.

Doesn’t really matter when if the players will just hold out every time another guy gets a bigger extension.

Some guys care about their bank account. Some care about winning football games.

I can tell which one Aiyuk is.

That being said if the franchises keep caving it’s going to happen more often.

He is.

A couple guys at his position got paid & he decided he’s better than them so he should also be paid more.

He’s arguably the 2nd most important player on the roster, so if it comes down to an either/or, I expect Williams to get paid.’

Tough handing out deals to 36 year players, but I agree that he is a huge piece for their team (literally and figuratively).

There's a thread in the FFA about the merits of Twitter/X. Can y'all take this there?
The issue isn’t with the platform so much as it is with those who abuse the platform to deceive. It’s not strictly a Twitter problem as fake insiders are all over social media (Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, etc.). It’s a valid concern. When people stop citing unreliable sources in threads like this one, the complaints will stop as well.

There are exceptions to every rule. We are talking about Aiyuk and the end of rookie deals. The Trent Williams situation is different.

If a team or groups of teams keep being cheap then players won't sign with them or won't want to be drafted by them. It works both ways.

This is the bigger issue, and it’s become a frustrating trend with the 49ers the last few years.

The 49ers are going to have a rough year. Too much noise all off seasom and getting older. Their window is shutting imo
I believe they’ll still be very competitive. Very much still in the window. They’re a deep and talented team.

This nonsense doesn’t make them better though, that’s for sure. Has to be distracting.

Fortunately they have a very good coaching staff. That can help manage the distraction.

SF offer reportedly up to 30 million. Dismiss if you prefer.

If true, I'd think that would keep him there. But we'll see.

Sources tell Rickey that the #49ers have made an offer of $30 million per year to Brandon Aiyuk today. It remains to be seen if this new offer sways him from the #Steelers.
Edited to remove deleted link speculating that a lower offer in PA might yield more money than the higher offer in Cali.

Thank you.
