WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (5 Viewers)

Something is up here.

A lot to think about with salary cap and if he’s healthy enough to pass physical but for sure won’t be surprised if he’s traded in next few weeks.

Link didn't work for me.
For some reason it looks like he deleted his tweet but he was re-tweeting this

I guess this trends with the speculation from some here that Aiyuk’s delayed recovery is due to player choice and he doesn’t want to play (for the Niners).

By the time I just tried to view this, it was also apparently deleted. No big deal, I have a sense of what it was.

Wow, did not know that. Seems like some backtracking/bad initial post.

Gist of it was this Chan lady said he had deleted all 49'er stuff from his social and had not been seen in the last two weeks.

Yeah, Niners Twitter and Reddit are now saying it’s a fake story. That said, I haven’t seen an apology from NBC Sports or Jennifer Lee Chan, and the Aiyuk article does say that he hasn’t been at practice. So, there could be some truth to what she was implying with her original Tweet. It would be consistent with Aiyuk’s past behavior.

It does not appear Brandon Aiyuk will make his return to the field for the 49ers any time soon.

The star wideout had been very visible during practice throughout training camp and early this season, running alongside his fellow receivers during the open portion of practice, with his speed and agility during those sessions giving the impression that a return from a devastating knee injury could be soon.

However, Aiyuk has not been seen on the field much in the past two weeks.

Brandon Aiyuk has been consistently at the #49ers facility — even helping coach up the WRs.

Despite a report earlier this week suggesting otherwise, John Lynch confirmed on @KNBR that Aiyuk was working out at the facility this morning.

“He’s getting closer. He is getting closer and I can see that each week. He’s better today than he was last week at this time. That’s all positive. That’s the update.”

That’s a relief! He’s a bit of a diva though, so that’s why the earlier (false) report was believable.

What are we saying he slots into upon return? Lowend WR2 with maybe lowend WR1 spike weeks? I have had him since draft, but kinda see the WR room as wide open still. Pearsal, Jennings injuries may have been a bit of a smoke and mirrors, but a healthy Aiyuk has got to be better than either if even they do get healthy.

He should return as the #1 target or at least 2nd behind Kittle.

He hasn’t really played for a year and a half. He’s going to be rusty and out of sync with whatever QB is playing. Definitely think a healthy Pearsall and Kittle will be higher priority targets.

I think hed be barely playable.

I am sitting him on in a few leagues, though would never have messed with him if I'd known he be out this long.

My fairly realistic best case scenario is he returns in week 10-11, spends next few weeks getting up to speed but hopefully not in my fantasy lineups, and after the week 14 bye MIGHT be able to be a big assist as a top 2-3 target earner for the fantasy playoffs.

I’m desperate at WR and have been holding him, McLaurin, and Godwin. Hopefully by playoffs one of them will be startable.

I'll need to activate him from IR pretty soon I guess - I'm expecting WR3-WR4 numbers initially as he ramps up. Hoping to be able to start him or flex him during the playoffs.

I might look to trade him with the hype that will surround him as he is activated. Probably shoot for a two for one since he’ll be coming off of my IR spot.

Underdog NFL
Shanahan: 49ers "pretty confident" Brandon Aiyuk (knee) will play at some point this season.
Pearsall’s knee is fuzzy and Aiyuk might play at some point.

Got it.
Sounds like basically saving these guys for the playoffs and hoping not to have to bring them back earlier.

Dodgers seemed to have done just that with their pitching staff. Why not do it up north in the Golden State if your team is always banged up and getting a little up there in years?

Well, that would be a sound strategy if a playoff spot was a sure thing, but without them, not sure my guys can score enough points to stay in the race.

If they make the playoffs - tough division.

I'd wait until next year for Aiyuk to be rostetable...

As it is theirs enough target competion in San Fran once Piersall healthy.
It's gonna take BA a while to get back into football playing shape, used to getting hit again and trusting his injury is truly healed.
Even when he plays this year it will be in a limited role to begin with.
He won't be a difference maker this year.

Should have traded him the second week of October in 2024.

I traded him on 11/17/2024:

Calling my team Team A, I got:
Swift, D'Andre CHI RB
Kraft, Tucker GBP TE

I gave to Team B:
Aiyuk, Brandon SFO WR
Estime, Audric DEN RB
Year 2025 Round 3 Draft Pick from Team C - turned into 3.8, Sampson, Dylan CLE RB
Year 2026 Round 3 Draft Pick from Team A - my pick, should be late

I was feeling great about this trade until Kraft tore his ACL... but I'm still happy with it, especially since it occurred after Aiyuk's injury.

Kraft injury really stinks, but great value at the time. Swift has been above expectations and Kraft has plenty of time to recover.
