WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (1 Viewer)

I'm hoping it's only an MCL sprain and it's a 2-4 week injury. What's taking Schefter and Rapsheet so long to give an update?
They won't know til tomorrow.
They always have a general idea of what the injury is after the game.
How without imagining? Good guessers by the way the knee bends? Hell, I can do that.
They can get a good idea from doctor/trainer exams - range of motion, pain, swelling, etc, then they wait for imaging confirmation the next day.

Exactly. They're 99% certain after the game, without an MRI. Those that don't know this, don't follow football.

I have a league where due to BYE I had to start Aiuk & Deebo this week.

Deebo left sick, Aiyuk got crunched.

WTF.

:wall:

I’m cursed.

I should be way up. Now it’s a coin flip.

Aiyuk is done for the season, he's been done. Deebo is washed, never is healthy, Jauan won't last the season, and anyone who thinks Pearsall will catch 1000 yards this season is looking for a lighter that works and a clean strip of tin foil on O'Farrell Street in the Tenderloin.

Deebo didn’t look washed last week. At all.

Cmon.

He's cooked man, he lacks explosiveness now, he can never stay healthy, and is a hammy or quad pull away from missing key games. He's cooked. This team is aging fast, at least the old guard is. He's far past an AP season, and might not even make a PB. He''s done. He was better when he was fat. Because he is a running back playing WR who still runs *** routes, but at least he could plow through them when he was fatter.

doubt he gets traded to the Pats because I don’t think he’d want to play in New England. But I’ve been wrong many times before.
I’m starting to believe he’ll go to whatever team pays him $30M

And I hope it’s the Pats, and his stats take a nosedive and he hates the freezing weather because he’s a greedy selfish tool.

That may be the Niner fan bitterness talking.
Funny, I was just thinking that the Niners are likely going to regret treating him like a little *****.

CMC is due for another season ending IR, he had what, 2 of them after his monster year at Carolina? Deebo is due to miss half the season again, seems he can never stay healthy for too long. The clock strikes midnight on Purdy's magical run. Rams win the division the next 3 years. Shanahan leaves in disgrace, never sniffing his first ring ever again.

:tfp:

I blame Hot Sauce for cursing this season.

Karma is undefeated.

And so are the Kansas City Chiefs.

(I really wasn't hoping this was the outcome when I made that post back in August 15 minutes before CMC got hurt. For whatever it is worth I hereby reverse the hex and the Niners shall be full of great health and more wins than anyone has ever seen the rest of the season)

He blew past the entire defense for a long score last week.

You seem to be watching a different game than I am.

He was sick yesterday. It happens.

What did I do?

ALso, FYI

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) “has been ramping up” for a return in early-November.
Per Rapoport, McCaffrey has been running on flat ground, and there have been no concerns regarding his rehab. With the 49ers on a Week 9 bye, it sounds like Week 10 continues to be the targeted return date for McCaffrey. Injuries have marred this 49ers offense all season, with the likely loss of Brandon Aiyuk (knee) just being the latest to befall them. Assuming McCaffrey is healthy and back to his old ways when he returns, the 49ers will have a much-needed piece back in the fold for the stretch run of the regular season.

Almost a relief for me if he goes to IR, I wont start him anymore. Pickens, McLauren, and B Thomas were already my 3 main WRs, but now I wont even need to think about it.
If Tua is back, in my SFlex league I will dodge a bullet, as it looks like Fields is QB2 now.

Somebody needs to go outside and touch some grass, whilst drinking his water.

Lost season. My only miss in the draft. So many receivers performed great last year and they have done nothing this year. Predict drafts will go back to being old school RB dominant next year

Well, my trade in a DEVY league of Ollie Gordon and a 2025 1st round rookie pick for Aiyuk and a 2nd is looking pretty crappy about right now.

There needs to be a middle ground because now the team is screwed paying for a player they don't have for a year.

I think there should be built-in injury clauses in contracts. A player gets their entire salary as long as they're healthy, but if they get injured, their pay gets adjusted for time missed. If a player makes $20 mil/yr and gets a season ending injury week 8, he gets half his salary for that season. Miss 4 games? You lose 4 games of pay.

I know that'll never happen, but I think something needs to be done to make it fair for both sides.

Football is a violent sport. You can’t ask players to lay their bodies on the line and then not pay them if they get hurt. Owners abused injuries for years. No guaranteed money beyond that year. Can cut at any time. Now at least they have some protections. Don’t take them back to the stone ages

If a player ruins his future value there should be financial security. The team’s future financial security isn’t as much at stake. I disagree with you on prorated salaries in case of injury.

Yup. He got hurt playing for the team that employs his services. It’s called workers comp…

He can correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm sure I am) but I think he's worried about the cap situation. As I said in the offseason, Jennings is a perfectly fine fill in and they down need to sign a new WR.

Cowing too.

I get what you're saying, I just think there should be a happy medium for both sides, even though it'll never happen.

Man, this is awful for Aiyuk and the 49ers.

Damn. I roster this guy in one dynasty league in which I also roster Rashee Rice. I thought I'd be good this year, but I stink as is per wont in that league.

Oh well.

The NFL has this already: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...journalist Ian,more games means more injuries.

The NFL Network journalist Ian Rapoport reported that Hamlin’s four-year, $3.64m contract was due to earn him $825,000 this season but contained a clause to pay him at a lower rate of $455,000 while on the injured reserve list. In other words: a 45% salary cut because he suffered a cardiac arrest doing his job. And that is pretty standard for injured players.

How about instead of them losing money, half their salary doesn't count against the cap so the team can sign more players. The whole reason they want guaranteed contracts is because if they get hurt then the team can cut them and they get $0.00. The Teams have been protected for years at the players expense.

They probably aren't screwed quite as bad as you think. They are screwed on the field this season because they don't have him, but that is football, not contracts.

The 49ers are known as one of the teams that utilize insurance for their contracts most heavily, so they probably had a sizable amount of Aiyuk's guaranteed money insured, which would mean (a) the 49ers will be reimbursed for that amount they paid to Aiyuk, and (b) they would get salary cap credit in 2025 for that insured amount for the number of games he misses in 2024 (and same in succeeding years).

Your approach to not getting paid any salary when injured actually performing football activities doesn't seem very reasonable to the players. Particularly the bottom of roster players who aren't making Aiyuk money.

That's good, at least. As long as both sides have insurance options available, then it really doesn't matter whether players/employees are paid when injured. Just have to bake that into the cake when determining salary.

Yeah, I like this. We all know these billionaire owners can easily afford all these contracts, but paying guys who aren't playing can cripple a team wise. I guess that's more of what I'm getting at.

I think the cash matters just as much as, if not more than, the cap situation. "Billionaires can afford to lose money, therefore they should" is ... well, folks know what that is, and I won't get explicitly political.
