WR Calvin Ridley, TEN (1 Viewer)

But this isn't poker where the cards are what they are.

Ridley can come back and be a good player.

I think dynasty FF is comparable to the stock market.  If you buy 100,000$ of an S&P 500 index fund and it falls by half the next day--you don't sell because of the Sunk Cost fallacy and move on.

You hold it and hope it's value rises.  Buy low and Sell high they say.

Same thing with FF players that underperform or fail to meet expectations--for whatever reason.
I'm of the opinion that he's never stepping foot onto an NFL field again, so my comparison is apt from my point of view.

You only sell if the reasons you bought change and you don’t see it changing back.
Of course, having Ridley on your team right now is more akin to having Bitcoin or an individual stock than the S&P 500.

that’s where we sell for the best you can get, to someone who thinks he’ll return. Circumstances have changed in this asset. The only real question is what we predict going forward and the risk : reward.
I’ll keep Ridley but you could easily be right.

I’m a Ridley owner and gave up a king’s ransom for him right before he stepped away. I gave 3 firsts. One of the firsts I gave up ended up being the 1.01 this year 😩

So I’m not trading him for anything at this point. I’ll hold and hope and pray.
That's so sad, this is why I steer clear of Dynasty or have for the better part of a decade now. This is also why some folks really take offense to things I post. If I played dynasty, don't think I would enjoy MoP either 😂

-I've said enough about Ridley(maybe), I imagine you saw at least a few of my posts. It irritates me to think he might be traded and then just suddenly turns it on for a new team...at the same time I don't have any ill will towards him and I'd like to see him have a career. I'm very at odds with myself over this situation and feel strongly that if this happens to another star WR on another team or "your team" then people will see the light and the loopholes in the system with a lot of this. And of course it shouldn't be limited to just Wide Receivers but I'm sure the viewing audience can figure that out.

-That doesn't mean that Ridley is not experiencing and suffering debilitating mental illness. I don't like being misinterpreted, but if he lands on a new team i do think we have to look at the mild coincidence and timing of when all this started to unravel.

(He posts on social media in Jan 2021 he's ready to sign a long term deal with Atlanta...basically PAY ME!!! And then Atlanta exercises their 5th year option in April 2021 meaning he isn't likely to get much signing bonus until '22/'23 and so his mind starts to wander and then he wonders if the team really wants him, he loses focus and doesn't know if he actually should even be playing football. And here we are.)

Thanks Kutta

Unless the "mental health issues" were seeking help for a gambling addiction, that excuse for missing games is a bad look at first blush.

I'd check out, too, if I'd done that. He may very well have deep psychological issues.

That said, he's gone.

omg

well, he screwed me over for the 2021 season, but now I have the first round pick of the Ridley owner in my dynasty league. That  team was already expected to be a top four pick. So now he’s paying me back a little bit I guess.

Just an absolutely brutal turn of events for shareholders.

The NFL suspended Calvin Ridley "indefinitely at least through the conclusion of the 2022 season for betting on NFL games in the 2021 season."

The league's statement clarified that Ridley bet on games during a five-day period in November. This was after he had left the team to tend to his mental health. The memo also states that Ridley was not betting with any insider information. No players or staff members of the Falcons knew he was betting. These notes make it abundantly clear that Ridley was doing this on his own and the integrity of the game was not compromised. Ridley can appeal the suspension but the NFL takes gambling offenses extremely seriously. They will likely push to keep his indefinite punishment in place. After missing most of the 2021 season, this suspension puts Ridley's career up in the air. If he only misses the upcoming season, which is far from a given, he will be coming up on 29 years old the next time he can take the field.

@CalvinRidley1

I bet 1500 total I don’t have a gambling problem

eta: I think he's already deleted it, but not before the internet captured it for life.

eta2: Still There

In all seriousness, is it even worth trying to open trade discussions on him?

I realize I'm selling low.  But this feels like an Antonio Brown slope I don't want to be on anymore.

Just can't imagine a lot of people are interested in getting on it.

This is where an approach somewhere between the old school and new schools to mental health issues serves one well. A lot of acceptance with a not-unfair dose of skepticism about guys that suddenly disappear and use social media weirdly as if in negotiation with their club. Betting on games? Hoo boy. Ridley set the mental health movement back about a few years with this one.

I’d say it’s hold or nothing. No one is paying anything of value for this guy right now.

To be fair, and in all seriousness, addiction is a mental health issue.

Hard to see that through the “fog of war“ as it were, and it’s ironic as hell… But he legitimately does have a mental health issue and now we know what it is.

that it also involved incredibly poor decision-making may be another topic.
