Just posted this in the other thread :)

Yahoo Sports

As per Yahoo, Colston wasn't in pads but feeling better. Payton undecided on his status for the ATL game. Past history from Payton suggests he may give Colston an extra week at least to recover, as he did with Joe Horn and his groin injury.

I'd guess with the depth of the receiving corps, it makes sense to sit him this week, but the good news is that the injury does not sound serious.

CBS lists him as questionable.

My guess is that he sits which gives those of us who got Henderson, the chance to start him until we get Colston back.

yup, i think FF wise he's a no go this week, but he'll be back fighting for the #1 WR FF spot next week or so. thankful for having him on my squad this year as he's made my team somewhat respectful!

This from the Associated Press, via the Biloxi (Ms.) Sun-Herald

Relevant Portion:

Marques Colston, the Saints' standout rookie receiver, was not in pads during practice but was able to put weight on his sprained left ankle as he played catch with some fellow receivers.

"I'm making a little progress day by day," Colston said. "It's really too early to tell at this point. We still have a couple days to evaluate and see where this thing goes. I definitely feel a lot better. We've definitely made a lot of progress in the last couple days. Hopefully things will continue in that positive direction."

I agree. He's been awesome for my team and I think he'll start tearing it up again next week. But this week I'll turn to someone else (Chambers in a great matchup).

That's my hope too...just sit him a week and let him recover, then turn him loose when he comes back.

Saints :: WR

WR Colston Remains Questionable

Associated Press, ESPN - [Full Article]

WR Marques Colston was not in pads during practice Wednesday, but was able to put weight on his sprained ankle as he played catch with fellow receivers. "I'm making a little progress day by day," Colston said. "It's really too early to tell at this point. "I definitely feel a lot better." I just want to be back for the long run because this is definitely a playoff caliber team," Colston said. "I would much rather come back and be ready for that than rush back for one game and be out for two more. I would rather sacrifice this week and be there for the playoff run."

No more need to further evaluate as far as I'm concerned. This says it all.

What about yahoo leagues where you could still play him as a TE??

I agree def sit if you're playing him at WR, but depending on status come friday/saturday, may be worth a gamble at TE

Thursday Times-Pic article

Comments from after Wednesday's practice:

..."Since Monday, I know I've gotten a whole lot better," Colston said. "I'm probably about 60 percent right now. But two days is a long time to get on this thing and see where I can go with it."

...

Saints quarterback Drew Brees said Wednesday that, from his conversations with Colston, he feels good about the rookie's chances of playing against Atlanta, which has the third-worst pass defense in the league.

"He tells me he feels pretty good, so that's a great sign," Brees said. "He's actually a lot further along than I thought he'd be at this point after him going down. So I'm pretty confident."

...

"I'm definitely feeling a lot better since the injury," Colston said. "I feel like I've been progressing at a pretty good pace. We've definitely got a long way to go. It's still up in the air. Today is only Wednesday. We'll keep chipping away and see what happens."

...

Coach Sean Payton would not say Wednesday whether he tried, for example, to integrate receiver/return specialist Michael Lewis more into the passing offense Wednesday than in the past, nor would he say whether he anticipated getting anyone any more practice in Colston's spot.

"I don't anticipate me answering the question in regard to where we're putting our receivers this game," Payton said.

Friday Times-Pic article

...COLSTON UPDATE: Wide receiver Marques Colston fully participated at practice Thursday but is still listed as questionable.

Colston said his sprained left ankle continues to improve but could not say if he'll play in Sunday's game against the Falcons.

"I just don't want to have it go in the opposite direction," Colston said.

Tight end Ernie Conwell (knee) and wide receiver Terrance Copper (knee) were removed from the injury list. On Wednesday, both were listed as "questionable."

...

is friday typically a light workout day?
Yes. All we wil probably get today is whether or not the swelling is down and if he is limping. GTD is probably what we are looking at.
That Colston practiced fully on Thursday does open the possibility that he could start. The number of snaps he plays would still be uncertain.Edit for accuracy I misread sidewinders previous post.

From Rotoworld.com:

Marques Colston (questionable, ankle) missed practice on Friday.

View:

Colston practiced fully on Thursday, so this isn't a good sign for his chances to play at Atlanta. He'll come down to a game-time decision, and his status will greatly affect Terrance Copper and Devery Henderson's value this week. Nov. 24 - 4:22 pm et

Can anyone suggest a good tight end in case Colston can't go. He's the best tight end in the league, IMO. :scared:
You're kiddign right? Just because Yahoo misclassified him for the season as a TE does not make him TE. Lucky for all the guys who had him in Yahoo leagues but if you're picking up a WW TE to replace him you're doubly screwed since his production was well above the TE production.

Fasten your seatbelts . . .

We can suggest plenty of good TE's, but without knowing what TE's are available to you, it's kind of pointless to sit here & just rattle off names.Or was your post :sarcasm: ?

From Rotoworld:

Marques Colston-WR- Saints Nov. 25 - 10:59 am et

Marques Colston (ankle) says he'll work out prior to Sunday's game before a determination is made as to whether he'll be active.

View:

Colston is hopeful he'll be able to play at Atlanta despite missing Friday's practice. Devery Henderson and Terrance Copper are both solid fantasy plays if Colston is among New Orleans' inactives.

I really hope he sits so he's fresh for SF next week. I can live without him this week and I have Henderson in my line-up. This is too muddled to feel confident about any NO WR except for Horn.

My decision's made: I'm sitting him. Even if they do play him, there's zero guarantee that they don't play him for a series before deciding that he can't cut well enough or something and sit him. They're playing for more than just this game this year, so they won't risk his recovery for this game IMHO.

If he is active, it would be a high risk/high reward type of decision for his owners. Depending on your other WR options and the strength of your opponent, maybe it's time to go for broke. Luckily it's an early game, and the fact that he is a GTD is a good sign for next week and the rest of the season, even better if he is active and doesn't reinjure the ankle.

Saturday Times-Pic article

Saints receiver Marques Colston hopes to play Sunday at Atlanta, but he missed most of Friday's practice. Saints Coach Sean Payton said he wanted Colston to rest his sprained left ankle.

"I'll probably go out there (Sunday morning) and work it out before the game, see what I can do and go from there," said Colston, who fully participated in Thursday's practice. "I've still got a couple more days. I'll come in here for treatment before we leave (Saturday)."

...

Im going to go with a different take on this. Being only a mild sprain a shot of cortison should do the trick. The only problem with that would be he could hurt it more and not know it until the shot wears off. In that sense and Copper and Henderson filling in admirably, I dont see him playing.... so never mind :wall: :bye:

Rotoworld:

The Saints "are confident" that Marques Colston will play Sunday, according to FoxSports.com's John Czarnecki.

View:

Like any early Sunday report, this one is only relevant for a few hours. Colston will test his ankle before game time before a decision is made, but this report suggests Colston's ankle sprain isn't that serious. Devery Henderson and Terrance Copper owners should check back around noon.

Damnit. I really hope he doesn't play. He's out of my lineup and he's staying on the bench whether he plays or not. I can't afford another goose egg if he tweaks it. Now I'm royally screwed because I was planning on playing Henderson (and inserted him over T. Glenn!!). Now I have no suitable replacements at flex. Maybe Dillon....I hate FF.

I know how you feel. I'm hoping he sits as well because I've locked up my spot for the playoffs and need him next week at full strength. Why would a guy risk playing when last week his QB threw for what, 500 billion yards without him and he's more valuable heathly for the stretch run?

Im staying far away from Colston today. Not taking the chance that he sits. That said, I hope he plays well - then I'll be able to start him with confidence next week.

thats funny. i did exactly the same. actually, i'm considering starting them both this week (i'll be on a train all day and can't make the GTD) since there's a chance they'd both put up numbers against ATL this week anyway. although that would mean sitting TJ Housh. i hate FF...

Sitting here listening to the Saints pre-kickoff radio coverage. The guy who gives the in-game sideline reports for the Saints radio network gave a pretty detailed report on Colston. Running alot of different routes to test the ankle -- looks fine running straight ahead, but obviously having some trouble when cutting hard on the ankle. Just this guy's opinion -- take fwiw, but he's been covering the team for close to 20 years and is thoroughly ingrained in following the team -- he thinks that Colston will be active and get 15 to 20 snaps.

Also, one other thing that I'm not sure many people know - Horn tweaked his groin again in practice this week, so he may be somewhat limited today as well.

I figure they're going to get him some snaps today, with none of his routes being huge cut routes. I have him catching 3 passes today so I sat him.

Great info, Sidewinder. Much appreciated here. If it sounds like Colston is going to play that much, I guess I should start him over Henderson. Did the Saints radio guy have any insight on whether Henderson and/or Copper would play more than normal? Especially considering Horn's nagging injury as well. I guess I could just avoid this mess and go with Reggie Brown or Mark Bradley, but I really want to play the correct Saints WR if I can.
