WR Curtis Samuel, BUF (1 Viewer)

Thank goodness. After losing Fuller in dynasty, having Samuel out after a BYE would suck.

CMC out, Moore out - Samuel should be locked and loaded. Rotowrong saying he might be limited after not practicing....c'mon, dude's had 2 weeks to rest. He'll be fine.

I traded for him before the deadline but haven't gotten him into my lineup much.  Most weeks I need to start 2 out of Conner, CMC/Davis, Deebo, Curtis and Hunter Henry. The week I really could have used him was his bye week when Conner was out.

Curtis Samuel caught 7-of-9 targets for 68 yards in the Panthers' Week 14 loss to the Broncos.

Samuel added another 22 yards on two carries. It is a decent line for Samuel considering he did not register a single catch in the first half. In fact, Matt Rhule seemed to make a statement by not "starting" players who were on the COVID-19 list this week, but Samuel did enter the game on the team's second offensive play. Samuel remains a strong bet to hit close to 10 touches in Week 15 against the Packers due to the uncertainty around D.J. Moore's status.

This dude has been my favorite trade acquisition - he's only 24, and I suspect he'll be with the Panthers next year. If not, he could even improve his target share if he goes to a good team. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds. Immediately, with CMC out again, I like his prospects this week as well. He's been a steady 15-20 every week. Got me 16 this week, without a TD.

Feel the same longer term. I think I'll try not to start him this week, especially if Moore is back. Even if he is, GB has a pretty good secondary and I don't like his chances for a big game unless Alexander and King are following Moore and Anderson.

Curtis Samuel caught 4-of-9 targets for 42 yards in the Panthers' Week 15 loss to the Panthers.

The bad side of Samuel's game popped up, as he dropped two screen targets on manufactured opportunities. Samuel seemed to be targeted most when operating in tight formations or from the slot, and overall the Panthers' offense lack pizzazz. Samuel will be difficult to rely on in Week 16 against Washington.

NBC Sports' Peter King said Curtis Samuel could be a good fit in Washington's offense.

Samuel, an unrestricted agent who played both running back and receiver for Carolina, has a history with Washington offensive coordinator Scott Turner and head coach Ron Rivera, who isn't averse to bringing in coaches and players with whom he's familiar. King said Samuel could take pressure off Terry McLaurin after two seasons in which opposing defenses have keyed on him. Washington had no viable answers at the No. 2 receiver spot in 2020; Logan Thomas served as the team's No. 2 option in the passing game. Samuel would presumably see more opportunity in Washington than he ever did in Carolina.

NBC Sports' JP Finley reports free agent WR Curtis Samuel is "a target" for the Washington Football Team.

The wide receiver market is extremely slow at the top because there's more supply between the free agent and rookie classes than there is demand right now. It's possible that Samuel, Kenny Golladay, and Will Fuller sign one-year contracts or have to take less money than expected on a long-term contract. Either way, it's a good time to need a receiver. Washington, of course, needs at least one starter to pair with Terry McLaurin. Samuel would be a nice pairing, and he has tons of connection to Washington's coaching staff from his time in Carolina.

Washington signed Curtis Samuel, formerly of the Panthers, to a three-year, $34.5 million contract.

Samuel gets $24.5 million guaranteed. This signing felt inevitable from the start, and it brings a lot of life to Washington's offense. Not only does Samuel offer plenty of yards after the catch skills from the slot, perimeter, and backfield, but he'll also alleviate pressure off of Terry McLaurin, his ex-teammate at Ohio State. The skill group immediately becomes one of the fastest, and OC Scott Turner has been a creative mind in his few seasons as a play-caller. With Ryan Fitzpatrick's aggressiveness and the NFC East schedule, both McLaurin and Samuel project to be strong weekly options in fantasy. Samuel offers WR3 upside during his age-25 season. Washington should be viewed as the co-favorites in the division.

So happy with how this acquisition is turning out. Of course I now have to hope that WFT has a plan for a QB beyond 2021-2022. But for this year I love it. He should he very productive, and he’s super young.

FFPC

team A gave: Samuel, Lavishka, 2022 3rd & 4th

Team B gave: Diontae Johnson, Reagor

pick your flavor
Tough call...I could make a case for both sides of this deal.

At the moment I’m leaning veerrry slightly toward the Samuel side if it’s offered to me for Dionte/Reagor. The picks don’t move the needle but nice to have. But then, I’m high on Samuel & not that high on Reagor.

It’s closer than face-value though. Things might change. if WAS brings in a JuJu that limits Samuel’s value slightly as only so many targets to go around & I’d be back on the Dionte side.

One difficult aspect is that beyond 2021 I’m not sure who’s throwing the ball to any of the 4 receivers. Theoretically Hurts will be the passer for the Eagles but is that a certainty?

Dionte is (much) more valuable on paper than Samuel, (or anyone in this deal) but PIT has more mouths to feed, and I have to figure they’re gonna want to get back to running the ball & playing D at some point - it’s what they do. And the 2021 drops issues was a problem.

by comparison WAS has no qualms about airing it out & Fitzmagic is the dude to do it. Of course Methuselah is 137 years old & I doubt he’s a long-term solution.

JAX perplexes me as well. They’re looking to deal Minshew (good luck with that?) and what, draft someone?

This whole deal is kind of a crap shoot. I’m guessing the dynasty calc would prefer Dionte/Reagor, but again, I like Samuel, and especially for 2021.

ETA: yes, according to the dynasty calculator Reagor/Dionte wins by a lot. I think it’s closer than they have it. But long term who the hell knows.

You might want to check out this kid from Clemson they've been linked to. I hear he's a sleeper 😂
yeah I’m aware of Lawrence. Im not sure what he’s gonna do in the NFL or if JAX will be the place that best develops his growth is all. That’s not a team that I have confidence in is all I’m sayin.

Like it for Washington as Samuel was a guy I loved for real football but not loving this for fantasy. There’s some overlap with Samuel, Gibson and Mckissic that could cut into each a little.

I see it a little differently. The biggest winner here is McClaren, who won’t see the blanket coverage he saw last year.

Samuel as a WR won’t do anything but open things up for McKissoc/Gibson, and Samuel brings significant speed to the ground game. I expect it to hurt McKissic’s #s a bit rather than limit Samuel in that aspect.

Not to mention Fitzmagic is much more of an aggressive passer than Beidgewater. There should be more air yards to go around than there were for Samuel in CAR, and with less competition.

Assuming Samuel lines up at WR2 ~85% of the snaps I could see a season like 89/1025/6 receiving

37/365/2 rushing

Maybe a couple gadget plays thrown in. He’s a useful Swiss-army knife kinda dude & that speed. WAS is fast now.

Why not just call it the Washington Samuels? It’s a better name than WFT.
I think Snider chose that name just to spite the league.

I hope a name emerges connected to the formation of the country like the Continental Rebels or Sons of Liberty, something historically connected to the American revolutionary war of independence.

I'm sweating out the name change of the Cleveland Indians.  I hope they go with the name of the baseball team that played in Cleveland before the Indians, the Cleveland Spiders

...  The Plain Dealer, noted the combination of the team's new black-and-gray uniforms together with the sight of several skinny, long-limbed players. He joked the team should be called "Spiders", and the name stuck. The team started to improve in 1891, largely due to the signing of future Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited coming into the season. Chase Young and the defense alone was enough to have hope...but getting a massive QB upgrade (and that is what Fitzmagic is for us seeing how we had the lowest QB rating in the league last year) and then the additions of Samuel and what that will mean for Terry....man, we really could be a force next year. Still need to improve depth...improve middle and back end of our defense, and maybe another TE...but definitely are night and day better than before Ron got here. The man gets an A+ from me so far between last year's draft and this year's acquisitions. Plus how he handled Guice, Trent, etc. We have the best leader/coach we've had since Gibbs first arrived.

exactly what I said when it came out. Just a big middle finger from a billionaire to the league for daring to tell him what to do.

I thought the Hogs was a natural. Great branding opportunity as well.

serious talent and Fitzmagic

Football Team fans should be amped
Especially in that division.

who knows what NYG will look like, Dallas still doesn’t have a defense, and the Eagles are a crap shoot.

Good year to be solid on both sides of the ball in a super weak division.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said WR Curtis Samuel is out with a groin injury.

Samuel, who signed a three-year, $34.5 million deal with Washington in March, isn't participating in minicamp practice while he deals with the groin issue. It's not the best way to start off in a new offense. Last week, Samuel sat out practice after feeling a "twinge" in his groin. Hopefully he can get back to full health before July's training camp, where he'll look to solidify his spot as the No. 2 pass catcher in the Football Team's offense. Samuel in 2020 struggled through a lingering knee injury that kept him sidelines for one game.

I see Dyami Brown as the #2 WR and Samuel as a guy who will be moved all over, including the slot and backfield. Chris Simms has Brown as his #3 rookie WR. Simms has been pretty good with WR projections.

Washington placed Curtis Samuel (groin) on the active/PUP list.

Samuel began sitting out practice in June after feeling a "twinge" in his groin. The length of his injury is a bit concerning but players can be brought off the active/PUP list anytime after receiving medical clearance so there's plenty of time for him to heal up. It's not time to panic yet but Samuel is missing valuable practice time with his new team. Luckily for Samuel, he's joining Ron Rivera, who coached him in Carolina, so the offense should be familiar to him. Samuel remains an intriguing WR4 but comes with slightly more injury risk now.

as a D. Brown owner in lots of my dynasty leagues, I'd love for Curtis to rest as long as he likes and get 100% healthy for the season. He knows this offense. Let Brown get that much more reps and targets.

Washington Football Team placed WR Curtis Samuel on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

DT Matt Ioannidis and CB Chris Miller have also been placed on the COVID list, joining RT Cornelius Lucas. Ioannidis was practicing this morning, so it's not exactly a great situation. Much to coach Ron Rivera's justified dismay, the Football Team has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the league. That is going to have to change in a hurry unless Rivera's players want a disaster of a training camp. As for Samuel, it is another setback after his groin landed him on the active/PUP list. It's a highly inauspicious start as he tries to develop chemistry with Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Washington coach Ron Rivera said WR Curtis Samuel (groin) "looked good" at practice Monday.

"He moved around well," Rivera continued. "It's more about conditioning. Are you going to get 20 to 25 really good plays out of him?" He also said Samuel "doesn't need a full practice" ahead of Week 1, the key being how he feels on Tuesday following increased work. Absent for all of camp, Samuel's status against the Chargers continues to trend positively with each passing day.

Is there another Samuel topic?

Anyway, he pulled up gimpy in practice today.

dealt him + a 2nd for Chase Edmonds on the upside of the WFT signing, and day by day that trade’s feeling better regardless of what Chase does. Yikes. Dude just can’t get right.

“Curtis Samuel pulled up on a route in practice and is on the sideline working with trainers.

Washington officially listed Samuel as a DNP on the day. He has been battling a groin injury for the entire summer and NBC Sports' JP Finlay noted that the injury has limited him to just one practice in four months. Following Wednesday's exit from practice, Samuel's Week 1 availability appears to be in genuine doubt. Were Samuel to miss Week 1, his absence would open up immediate opportunity for third-round rookie Dyami Brown, who has impressed in practice. Samuel's status will be important to monitor heading into Sunday's matchup with the Chargers”
