WR Curtis Samuel, BUF (1 Viewer)

Drafted him as my 4 but looking like possibly letting him go for a guy like Pittman or a lotto RB at this point.  Just don’t know if I could ever trust him week to week.

Letting him go for Pittman???? I have Pittman ranked a bit higher than Samuel.  If you can get Pittman for Samuel I would snap accept that.

Think it’s dropsville too, didn’t practice all summer because of this groin and he steps on the practice field and boom, it goes again, it’s not good- wouldn’t be surprised if he needs surgery

How long is he sitting for?  Droppable now?  I targetted him everywhere and got him in most of my leagues.  Sad.

As always it's all about your specific league.  Only the shallowest of leagues would have anyone available that I would drop him for.

Ya they're pretty deep leagues.  But he was going to be a WR3/4 anyways, and now is out for what, the first 6 weeks?

In a shallow one myself and have a plethora of choices (Jakobi, Mooney, Gallup, Beasley, Agholor, ruggs, Landry, Shepard, etc.). I may hold for now as I don’t need him yet. Although Gallup and Mooney are tempting.

McKissic is going to be the beneficiary here.
I actually think it might be Logan Thomas. He was the 3rd in the NFL in targets among TE's last season, and it was looking like that wouldn't be the case with Samuel coming aboard, now, maybe it is again.

Wow. Dude hasn’t been able to get right in 4 months. What’s 3 weeks gonna do?
Agreed. I think surgery is definitely on the table, no matter what Rivera says. Bateman type of surgery or timeline. I dropped him as I wanted to shuffle waivers the last few days before he was IR-eligible, but also owned Mclaurin.

Sometimes the best strategy is the drop iffy players when you have shallow benches and let other owners eat the spot and have to decide about rostering / sunk cost.

Chess, not checkers.

His alignment breakdown was gonna be the biggest change - last year he had the most slot WR snaps amongst TEs, and #2 was 100 behind. That might be back in play now.

JDM’s snap count and targets last year were largely game script dependent, which is a hard thing to predict. He was the 3rd down RB all year but the high snap count / high target games were when they were behind most of the game.

not to mention that it was Checkdown Charlie Alex Smith vs. Fitzmagictragic, who loves throwing downfield. I think this is Logan's gain.

Washington designated Curtis Samuel (groin) for return from injured reserve.

Washington has struggled to get production from Dyami Brown in Samuel's absence. Brown has run a route on 84% of dropbacks but has just 32 receiving yards in three games. Washington now has 21 days to activate Samuel to the active roster. His return would be a boost for a passing offense that is struggling to to much beyond funneling a 29% target share to Terry McLaurin.

Rivera said Curtis Samuel looked good, but said they have time to decide if to activate him or not. Said Samuel "showed his speed". Also said they'd increase his work tomorrow. Rivera: "He's an impact player, the kind of guy you want on the field."

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Curtis Samuel (groin) will be active in Week 4 against the Falcons.

After struggling with a groin injury for the better part of four months, Samuel will suit up against Atlanta. How much he plays is anyone's guess. A major role for Samuel would eat into snaps and routes for both Adam Humphries and Dyami Brown, neither of whom were fantasy relevant in Samuel's absence. Samuel should be picked up in most 12-team leagues. Logan Thomas and Terry McLaurin remain the only reliable pass catchers in Washington's offense.

Curtis Samuel caught 4-of-4 targets for 19 yards in Washington's Week 4 win against the Falcons.

Samuel was used on short throws in his Football Team debut, as he was for most of his time in Carolina. Samuel saw a lot of playing time as Dyami Brown -- who had played mostly from the slot in the season's first three weeks -- exited the game in the second half with a knee injury. Perhaps Logan Thomas' (hamstring) absence will open up more targets for Samuel in Week 5 against the Saints. He'll be a floor option in PPR formats against New Orleans.

Curtis Samuel (groin) was again sidelined for Thursday's practice.

Samuel missed the first three weeks of the season with the injury and was only eased back in during Week 4, though he was a target magnet on the field with four of them in just 25 snaps. Is it management, or is it an aggravation? Washington coach Ron Rivera has spoken about being cautious with it this week. Samuel is another guy we'll be monitoring the Friday report on, but even if he does play he may be on a snap count again.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Curtis Samuel (groin) is expected to play in Week 5 against the Saints.

Samuel will still need to make it through warmups to get the final greenlight. He played his first game of the year last week but was limited to just 25 snaps. Even on the light workload, he earned four targets, all of which he caught. With Dyami Brown and Logan Thomas both out for this week, Samuel could be forced to take on more snaps despite his lingering groin injury. He's a risky bet in season-long leagues but makes sense as a cheap option in DFS contests.

Curtis Samuel (groin) is out for Week 10.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Friday that the team would "exhaust" all options before placing Samuel on season-ending IR. Samuel has struggled with a groin issue since the spring; he's played one full game for the Football Team in 2021. He's little more than a dynasty stash who could be a central part of Washington's passing offense if he can ever recover from the groin injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Curtis Samuel (groin) has a “small chance” to play in Week 11 against the Panthers.

Rapoport added, “If he can’t go today, he should play next week.” Samuel has already returned from the groin injury, only to exacerbate it and head back out of the lineup once this year. We don’t expect Washington to make that same mistake again. Expect the speedster to remain out this week and take the field for the first time since Week 5 next week. With the Football Team only supporting Terry McLaurin’s fantasy value so far this year, don’t look for Samuel to be more than a WR5 in his return.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Curtis Samuel is expected to play in Week 13 against the Seahawks.

Samuel will play on a pitch count in his first game back from re-injuring his groin, per Washington head coach Ron Rivera. He missed the first three games of the year because of the injury. After returning, he played 32 snaps across two games before going down once again. Expect Rivera to be extra cautious with Samuel this time around, heavily limiting his snaps this week. Samuel can't be trusted as a fantasy option yet.

Curtis Samuel (groin) is questionable for Week 13 against the Raiders.

Samuel was limited throughout the week and is expected to play. How much his reps increase remains to be seen after he logged 20 snaps (24%) in his first game action since Week 5. There's a chance he has a higher floor sans J.D. McKissic (concussion, out) since Samuel could possibly receive a sprinkling of backfield snaps against Las Vegas.

Curtis Samuel (groin) was not seen at practice Wednesday.

Samuel will go down as a DNP, a downgrade from his practice routine last week. Heading into Week 14, Samuel logged a trio of limited sessions before being labeled questionable. The Football Team is in a dire situation with a slew of players on the COVID-19 list, Terry McLaurin dealing with a concussion, and now Samuel nursing the lingering groin issue. Samuel could be a fantasy-relevant option if McLaurin sits, but now his health will need to be monitored throughout the week.

Commanders' offensive coordinator Scott Turner said Curtis Samuel "can play everywhere" in the offense.

Samuel saw his 2021 season cut short by a myriad of injuries after signing with the team as a free agent in the offseason. Known for his versatility, Samuel amassed over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in his final season with the Panthers -- his first without head coach Ron Rivera. Now reunited with Rivera, he has a chance to play a key role for the Commanders in 2022. Offensive coordinator Scott Turner said of Samuel "Curtis is one of the smartest players I've been around. He's got no real limitations as far as the different things you can do with him." Samuel was the WR27 in fantasy points per game in 2020 but will face stiff competition for targets with veteran Terry McLaurin and rookie first-rounder Jahan Dotson in the fold.

Hrs getting some complimentary coverage from the local beat guys. Was certainly fantasy relevant in CAR. Might be worth a late bench stash, or keep him on speed dial, to see if they use him in the Deebo role.

Curtis Samuel caught 8-of-11 targets for 55 yards and one touchdown in the Commanders' Week 1 win over the Jaguars, adding five carries for 17 yards.

Samuel made a statement in his long-awaited return to the field, totaling seven touches on the Commander's opening drive while closing it out with a three-yard receiving touchdown. Samuel saw work as both a receiver and running back today, looking explosive at times out of the backfield. Washington relied on Samuel heavily in this one, as he accounted for five first downs while also leading the team in receptions. Samuel's ability to impact a game has never been in doubt, as his versatility was on display throughout this one. If the volume we saw today is sustainable going forward, Samuel could be in the conversation as a weekly WR2. We'll play this on the safe side by calling him a high-end WR3 heading into next week's game at Detroit, but this was an encouraging return for the sixth-year pro.

What's not to like here? My gut says go get him. A possible WR #2 player who will get a fair share of weekly rushes. Wentz very capable. It's WAS football team that scares people away from drafting them. Looks like a balanced team of talent on offense.

I'm prepared to burn 4th waiver priority on him. I love that he's involved via carries and targets and he was very productive in this fashion back when he was healthy. If Wentz is not a mirage, he's a solid FLEX / bye week option to have.
